What can you do to promote racial harmony?

If racial harmony begins with respect in a broad sense, what keeps us from opening up?
Answer: Racial harmony begins with equality. You want equality? Get rid of government handouts, require people to be responsible and earn what they receive. I've never owned slaves. My family never owned slaves. I don't owe black America a darn thing. I personally think Oprah Winfrey is one of the greatest people (not just black people) in America today. She's self made. She didn't like what life had delt her so she got off her butt and did something about it. When I was 15 I wanted things, so I got a job and an education. I kept working that crummy job until I found a better job. I kept working that job until I got a better job. For Racial harmony to become a reality you have to have respect. There are 2 types of respect. The first is basic respect. You're a human being so I don't hurt you. The second is personal. You want my personal respect, earn it. It is mine to give and take as I see fit and no one else. If you want it, get off your butt and get off of public assistance. If you don't want to do that, get off my back you lazy irresponsible twit.

Racial Harmony, How do we achieve that without forgetting the past?

We have all learned that we should all be accepting of everybody. This said how can be claim to be a country without racism and sexism when we still still discrimination everyday. For my fellow minorities some have and some have not seen or felt the sting of racial slur. With all of this happening how can we ever achieve a greater America. We live in a Patriarchal, White supremacist, capitalist society. In this we as Americans ALL participant in a white male dominating culture. If you dont believe this look at all the leaders and most will be is. Never forget the past but it seems thats the only way to ever achieve harmony. If you say that you have black, asian, latino, and so on friends or if you are one of those then good. But why is it that we continue to shape our images of them with racialized stereotypes of them. Asians do not all look alike, Blacks are not all thieves, Latinos are not all part of MS 13, and Whites dont all play Golf. How do we get equality?
Answer: People should be educated to not identify themselves with the bodily perception. We think that our identity is tied to the body, when, in actuality, we are not the body, but individual spirit souls, (or sparks of energy, for those who do not accept the concept of the "soul"). We say, "I am American, I am white, I am black, I am male, I am this or that". Those are all bodily descriptions only, and have nothing to do with who we are as individual personalities. Your capacity to think, love, reflect, observe, relate, and reason has no connection whatsoever to the type of body you possess. This is the education that is needed. When people understand that they are looking at a PERSONALITY instead of a body, they will begin to behave with equity towards every living being.

Answer: I don't know if any one of you would consider my words 'harsh'. I've been as easy as I could and even changed my avatar to a funnier, happier looking guy. However, my heart goes out to Malaysians and victims of the racial supremist state and religious departments who overzealously maintain that their move is for the benefit of the rakyat (or shall we say, Malay rakyat?). As Gemini had stated in my question "Malaysians have your say", perhaps its time to give the opposition a chance? But I still doubt there will be real racial harmony in Malaysia. Not in this part of the world and definitely not in this century where widespread of violence and state racism is rampant. There is not much that we can do, for an ordinary citizen but at least with such postings on the net, it reaches out to more people than the newspapers or radio and other media does. There's also no fear of ISA as the web content is not locally based. In fact, Malaysians should NEVER be fearful if there is a good cause to fight for the truth. Malaysians should remind themselves of the Bangsa Malaysia ideal and uphold to it. Don't just complain about curropt politicians, remember that Malaysians are the ones who voted for them. Instead, make good use of medias to highlight their performance or propaganda they try to spead. Perhaps this will be a lesson to others as well and be more cautious in making statements. The government has to remember that it is with the rakyat's money that they are receiving their wages and they should change the attitude and mentality where if you are against the Malaysian government, you have to 'get out' (kindly refer to my post for the video clip and kindly refer to other 'Malaysian' posts where users use such abusive languages against one another). The real peacemakers are the Malaysians themselves who can see the mistakes and are willing to admit it and make a change. However, many Malaysians are not willing to do so and rather, live in denial. I can only say that Malaysians live in denial today because of fear of the authorities as Tun Mahathir would have put it; the Malaysian government has become a police state now. How can Malaysians ever improve their racial harmony with skeptism and suspicion against one another? How can Malaysians improve their racial harmony with unjust treatment of equal citizenship rights with their Ketuanan Melayu ideology and Bumiputera rights? When will Malaysians ever become Malaysians rather than Chinese, Indians, Malays and Lain-lain? I guess the minorities in Malaysia feels this as they are not given the equal privillege that others receive. They are still considered lucky to be in the 'Chinese, Indians and Malay' league but imagine the social stigma they face being 'alienated' as 'Lain-lain' instead of a Malaysian. While others consider non-Malays to be immigrants, they should not forget that Malays themselves are made up of different roots and are of immigrants themselves so what the hell are they talking about non-Malays being immigrants and do NOT deserve the rights equally as the Malays? Every second to third Malaysians born here today are Malaysians by right and blind to the constitution. How can anyone claim superiority or 'ownership' of this land that even some 'unknown' races were even here before them??? Hope this helps and I do hope that this will be a good reference for those who know how to use my statement for the Malaysian nationalist strife with a good cause.

Im black and ilve in a neighborhood with diverse ethnic people. We get along fine. They can chant white power all they want, as long we have peace between oursleves, everything is cool.

Instead of just minorities working together for peace and racial harmony, can we all be part of it? I would love it. I try to be like that every day. Answer: its a lot of give and take. accommodationist approach not assimilationist approach as indians/chinese are not happy to give up their religion. lots of gotong royong. malays should give up parts of their son of soil thingy. they must compete on equal grounds with the non-malays. concession for land/bizness etc should be equal with special ones for malays. may not be possible - but its equity, not equality that shld be emphasised. its not necessary that only malays are heads of departments etc. at that level - they should be able to compete with the rest. religion shld take a back seat - ie shld be personal and shldnt be too rigid. and stress on unity without being exclusive shld be emphasised. when non-muslim become muslims, they shld be allowed to convert back to their previous religion but not when your 1st religion is already islam. there's nothing in the holy books to say no conversion. the clergy should sometimes keep a low profile. religion is between me and god. u impose all these rules, u make me think otherwise
