Im a undergrad at SMU and considering taking up either courses concurrently. I plan to major in finance and enter the investment/private banking sector.
Which of the above courses will be the best to take?

Answer: 1. Cost saving tips
Get discounts by registering before end of June, 2007 for July enrollment. You will get a discount of 5% for 1 paper, 15% for registering 2 papers, and 25% for registering 3 papers.
In addition to that, even better, get the early bird discount by registering before end of May, 2007 for July enrollment. You will get additional 5% off from the total cost to pay.
So assuming that you take 3 papers: you will pay:
(1- 5%) x (1- 25%) x total cost.
Approximate cost would be around S$400-430 @ course (paper), you would save around S$ 320-360 from your tuition fee.
Another way to save cost would be to get an exemption. If you have studied accounting before and are planning to take ACCA,
1. try to go to www.accaglobal.com and go to exemption section
2. enter your school name, area of study, (optional + graduation year) then you would see how many courses you can possibly exempt from your ACCA study.
2. Exemption allows you to shorten your studying period. If you are currently working on Accounting field, taking exemption is advisable since you might not have the need to re-memorize all the studies that you 've learned in the past.
But if you have not worked in accounting field, even if you are qualified for exemption, it might be better to re-learn all the basic concepts since strong fundamentals are important for understanding the advanced courses later on.
3. I think it really depends on where do you live, more convenient to choose the closest location to where do you live or work.

Answer: Hello, I am a student from Kaplan, currently studying ACCA.
In my opinion, Kaplan has a conducive studying environment with well facilitated, big and bright lighted classrooms available. Where classroom are fully packed, the admin staff will arrange broadcast room for students to have lectures without inconvenience. It is equally good to carry on lesson with clear visual of the lecturer giving lecture when you cannot attend the main room. Kaplan also provide self-study rooms where we can do our own revision/self-study. Furthermore, the staff will send sms reminders of first lesson and special days other than your normal regular lesson day. The location is also conveniently located in town (somerset mrt station).
Of course, at the end of the day, the main concern is the Lecturers in Kaplan. Having a good and right lecturer helps a lot in studying ACCA. So far, I enjoy most lessons. There are many popular lecturers in Kaplan whom you may heard of like Mr Sami, Mr Roy etc. The lecturers are popular not only because they produce many prize winners, every of their lessons is vey informative, interesting and fulfilling. Their style of teaching are clear and understandable, in cases where you still do not understand, they are very patient to answer your question or you can always email them.
So, I am very satisfied with Kaplan and enjoy my schooling there. Hope my comments help you with your choice. I believe: Good Lecturer/School+Your Effort+Discipline=Pass in ACCA...haha, all the best=)

Can a fresh ACCA grad in Singapore be an Accountant?
I thought an Accountant must have a degree/ACCA and most importanly, coupled with at least 3-5 years of exp.
However, I have also heard that as long as you have ACCA, you can apply to be Accountant even if you have no working exp?!
So, the question Im asking is how true is it?

Aviation and Maritime industries are booming...Why accounting? Just image NTU/NUS/SMU/SIM are churning people with Accounting Degree.
Accountant job is not that welcoming in Singapore.
I have a friend who took my advice and went to US for Aircraft Maintenance course. Now, the ST Aerospace absorbed him and pays him a load. I took another route (pilot job) and went to Malaysia becoming a pilot. So, life is like this, look for the market that absorb people. Never entry a job market that is full of talent.

usually i would say $2.5k as the starting pay, but entirely dependant on which dept u are in too. i think the auditors earn more.

Do u think a fresh graduate with ACCA qualification could appy for Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)?
I am a fresh graduate for ACCA. This would mean i do not have any relevant working experience. It would be easier for me to find a job in Singapore if i can become PR. Besides that, how much salary u think is reasonable for a fresh graduate?

How important is an ACCA qualification in Singapore?
I intend to go to Singapore by the first semester of next year to work. I graduated with a degree in Accountancy from a university in the Philippines. Ive also been working as an Accounts Assistant here for years. But taxation and some accounting policies might be different in Singapore from what we practice here. I wonder how working on an ACCA qualification (through distance learning) would help me in finding work in Singapore. I would very much appreaciate any input you can share on this matter. Oh, I have another concern. Is accaglobal.com for real? I mean can you really get ACCA qualified through their distance learning scheme?

According to their exemption query database I am qualified to be exempted from taking F1, F2 and F3. That means Ill start on the Skills category, should I pursue ACCA qualification. Answer: Yes, ACCA is the way to do it if you intend to be a professional accountant. My hubby is one and things are looking up as soon as he graduated last year. He took it part time over a period of almost 5years, it totally paid off, trust me.
