How can I become a primary school teacher in Australia?

Hey guys, Im a 20 year old female and am currently studying at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand (my homeland) and hope to have my Bachelors degree finished by mid next year. My boyfriend and I are then planning on making the move to Melbourne, Australia where we will start our next big adventure. Although my majors will be in criminology and sociology, I have recently started to think about what I REALLY want to do in life, and primary school teaching is one of the things that has really stuck in my mind. I love children, Im patient and love to teach as well as learn and I think I would make a fantastic teacher. The only thing is, is that Im not too sure about prerequisites for primary teaching in Australia and where I would have to study, for how long etc etc. I have looked all over the internet but havent really found much information so was wondering if anyone knew about teacher training in Australia (because I have a feeling it may be quite a bit different from NZ). Answer: Hello my fellow kiwi :-D I am currently studying to be a primary school teacher through Massey University. When I started the course here, it was a 3 year course, but has gone up to a 4 year course now (in which the student teachers will come out on a higher qualification than I will). However, there is the option to do an additional year (post-grad) to gain the same qualifications as them. Anyway ~ I have been doing some searching of the web for you, and it seems that in Australia, they have the "Masters of Teaching (Primary)" which is a 2 year course (with some admission requirements) here's the link (it's in Melbourne too)- http://www.latrobe.edu.au/handbook/2007/postgraduate/education/coursework/rmt.htm You may find that the 2 year course is no where near as intense as the NZ course, and therefore if you do become qualified, if you decide to come back to NZ and teach, you may be required to sit an additional year or 2 to get the Bachelor of Education (Teaching Primary). Good luck with your ventures :-)

Answer: A guy turning 21 traditionally will drink a yard glass of beer, there will be many embarrassing speeches shared. Not sure about present maybe cufflings/jewelery (a novelty key) Roman Sandal, they weren't compulsory and I have never worn them because they looked uncomfortable and were brown. lol None gridlocked cars. There are bus routes up Queen St. Crappy rail network around Auckland (not Queen st) Wellington known as the art/cultural capital of NZ, its the capital city, its the political hub of NZ (the government building is known as 'The Beehive') No nickname that I'm aware of, its very windy. It has the motto or slogan 'Absolutely Positively Wellington') Hope that helps

Best place to live in Wellington?

Hi there. Im in the USA and we are moving to Wellington, NZ with hubbys work. I have never lived there before. I have two primary school aged children and I would ideally like to get them into a good school while living in a safe community. We love the outdoors - parks, beaches so any advice would be great. We dont cope that well with the cold since weve spent 4 winters out of NZ so are there different climates in Wellington? We will have to live in the Upper Hutt for a couple of months and then we would look at buying in an ideal location but my children will have to be enrolled before we leave the States. Unbiased opinions would be great ...
Answer: I would recommend Island Bay, Lyall Bay, Miramar, Johnsonville and Tawa. Areas that I would not live in would be Porirua and Naenae.

Study abroad location stump-- Dunedin, NZ or Wellington, NZ?

I am a film major at Northwestern University looking to study abroad next year, and since Ive always wanted to go to New Zealand and Australia, those have been my primary location options. Ive narrowed my options down to either University of Otago in Dunedin, or Victoria University of Wellington. My problem is that I simply cannot decide which school+town would be a better option for me. Wellington has recently come to be known as "Wellywood", due to its increasing impact on the film world and location of many studios there, so this seems like a practical option being a film major. However, University of Otago also offers many great courses in film+media studies, and its location on the South Island of N.Z. near the exotic Otago peninsula captivates me... If anyone has been to either [or BOTH!] of these cities/schools, and could provide me with an opinion on which you think is better, I would greatly appreciate it. Any opinion or information you provide will help me in making my choice. :)
Answer: Let's see, the most suitable school for you would be welly, yes. But by interest then otago. Both places are good. However, university of otago ranks 2nd best NZ uni for 2010, and victoria is in 4th. Wellington for the wind and otago for the snow.
