Kuv yoj Hmong. I am Hmong. An obvious way of saying that “I am an immigrant who has come from another country that is more than twenty thousand miles way from home and want to have a better life in America”.
My father and mother luckily crossed the “river” on foot safely and came to the United States of America to form a more decent life with their family. That was before they both got married and were only a couple years old.
Ever since I hit twelve years old, I was told that once I become a teenager, I would have to clean up the house and cook for my parents. But I was the big “rebel”. I bended their rules, I don’t cook for my parents, and sometimes I even lie to them.
Each year I hit one year older and each time I felt the pressure of a need for an older example in the house. No matter how hard I try, things are always in the way. That includes my siblings, school, and being an obedient older daughter.
I join clubs and activities at school because I enjoy being social with my peers. I wanted to learn to be independent and I know that being independent for me will be hard. My parents have babied me until this very day and I’ve realized that it’s not as easy as it seems.
Trying to balance school, family, and life all at the same time makes me feel depressed. And by getting over it is mostly by sleeping. Like what Hamlet says in William Shakespeare “To be or not to be, that is the question, whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing, end them; to die, to sleep.”
One day, I told my father that I hated being Hmong. The reason being is that I was supposed to be taught to learn how to be a good house-wife, yet, still maintain a family by doing the usual household chores. And especially be obedient to the husband (of which, I was always against of because I never see men as more superior than women). My father said “ You can not take the Hmong out of you”. End of conversation.
I then decided that I will learn the ways by myself since my parents never really had the time to teach me. I would cook things on my own, clean up the house and do the laundry. I would even try to do everything in my life independently. I will try to help the women cook during religious ceremonies or parties and try to blend in. But somehow, I was always left out no matter what.
It made me very frustrated. I’ve come to realize that I will never be a traditional Hmong wife. I can’t cook like they do, nor can I even blend in, at all. It may seem that in our culture, I am a rather lazy spoiled girl who can’t seem to do things on my own, but that’s just how it looks. Mentally, I am constantly running and trying to impress people all the time. It’s not who I am, it’s just who I want to be!
So then I gave up. What ever people wanted to say about me, they can say it. It will put me down but wouldn’t bring me from going up. Even though I am not good at cooking or cleaning or anything relevant, I am good at school. Being a housewife won’t let me make it far in terms of knowledge and what the world is all about. I intend to stay in school because I can get further in life. I will know how to make money and make life worth-while. Know how to get by and just knowing that when I go to sleep, I’d be happy.
Answer: Putting it very bluntly it's poorly written, self absorbed and wholly inappropriate for the intention.
You need to speak to your school teachers for advice on style of accepted writing - being different is always good, bending rules is also/can also be seen as good; however you need to actually be able to write.
Sit back down, go through the points that you would like to include, why you would include them, then start a first draft.
Don't include all of the negativity you have here, don't write like a child, don't use Shakespeare incorrectly... and put a smile on your face...
One tip I learned years ago, is to read out loud what you've written, because at the moment your passage is very hard to digest.
Post in and edit the second draft when you've sat down with an adult.

The reason I ask this is because lately my boyfriend has been showing some serious signs.Last night my boyfriend invited his friend over to see our new couch and big plasma tv,he was in a very good mood when sometimes he is not. They both came from work at 1am I went to sleep when i woke at 4:30am my boyfriend was staring at the computer,I asked when did his friend leave he said just now.I told him I had to take my mom to drop off her rental car and take her to workHe got very upset and kept asking was I telling the truth. I asked him about it he says he smells nothing I also noticed the half roll of paper towels were finished,the only time he uses this much is when we are making love. He claimed he doesnt know what happened to them. I left and came back he was in the shower for a long time. Usually when he stays up late he just sprays cologne and take a shower later.Other signs
1. During the time we had little in the apt I cooked dinner and they shared 1 plate (we had a whole set of plates) & they sat on the floor closeby and talked for 2 hours.
2. He spent 4 hours with his best friend & another friend one saturday night he claimed they went to the club, nothing was good so they went to his house ate and just talk about life.
3.While watching tv the show lead to a discussion about men cheating on wives with other men.He stated it is better for a man to cheat with another man b/c at least its not with another woman
4. On the issue of aids/stds, he said a woman is the main cause b/c they are dishonest & natural cheaters .I told him both heterosexual/homosexual men can get it too he got upset and denied it.
5. And on talking about hygiene he stated women smell worse than men., women is suppose to be obedient to her man... A man is in charge and over a woman.
6. He usually jokes a lot but when looking in the mirror he said he was suppose to be a woman, because of his small nose, his big booty and long hair. At the time I thought he was joking because he is always goofing around.
However I dismissed all this because I found porno of women on web sites he had visited. He is always getting hyped up whenever he sees a sexy woman on tv. and i notice him looking at other women and he also flirts a lot. And whenever I am in something sexy he gets so excited. However he is not upset when I am on my period and usually once a week we make love now its every other week and if i dont say nothing he will just tease me but nothing else. so i dont know what to think I hate to go so deep as marriage because that is what he is planning on doing. Id rather hurt now than suffer later because i love him so much and he is always there for me , going out his way to make sure I am happy . So what to do?
Answer: If I were you, I would have been gone starting with that statement "I should've been born a girl." WTF!!! all the signs point to him being gay. Sorry hon, get out now beofre more damage is done. and please don't have sex w/him!!! u know where i'm getting at.

At what point does a husband become too obedient?
My husband and I have been married for six years. I love him very much. He used to be very sloppy and leave a mess for me to clean up around the house. He was not much good at housework either. We had a lot of talks about it and he has learned to clean up after himself and he is good about it. Sometimes he even cleans up after me and my friends like after our book club meeting. My problem is that he seems sort of weak now, like he is less interesting overall. He is less attractive to me now than he used to be and I feel part of it comes from the fact that he always does as he is told. I am not saying I want him to be a pig but a little masculinity wouldnt hurt. Is it possible for a man to obey his wife too much? Am I just being stupid about all this? Why do I care about this and feel this way?

I am Muslim and it is probably the single most unintelligent thing Ive ever heard... especially when the woman goes "Domestic abuse happens because wives dont obey their husbands orders" Really? So its the womans fault her husband is a jack@$$?!

The reason I ask this is because lately my boyfriend has been showing some serious signs.Last night my boyfriend invited his friend over to see our new couch and big plasma tv,he was in a very good mood when sometimes he is not. They both came from work at 1am I went to sleep when i woke at 4:30am my boyfriend was staring at the computer,I asked when did his friend leave he said just now.I told him I had to take my mom to drop off her rental car and take her to workHe got very upset and kept asking was I telling the truth. However I dismissed all this because I found porno of women on web sites he had visited. He is always getting hyped up whenever he sees a sexy woman on tv. and i notice him looking at other women and he also flirts a lot. And whenever I am in something sexy he gets so excited. However he is not upset when I am on my period and usually once a week we make love now its every other week and if i dont say nothing he will just tease me but nothing else. so i dont know what to think I hate to go so deep as marriage because that is what he is planning on doing. Id rather hurt now than suffer later because i love him so much and he is always there for me , going out his way to make sure I am happy . So what to do?
Answer: I think from what you have said, that you are reading too much into this. But I also think that you should carefully observe over a long period of time his actions and activities. All men are different when it comes to their personalities, their wants and desires.
It could be that your boyfriend is a bisexual. I would suggest that you check out the movie "Kinsey" from your local video store and watch it alone. I think you would gain some understanding from it. Anyway good luck to you and I hope everything can be resolved between you both.

Why are Muslim women generally more feminine than American women?
I have to say that interracting with American women on Y!A has made me much more appreciative of Muslim women. Our girls are raised to be good Muslim women by their mothers. They are shy, soft spoken, innocent, submissive, obedient and docile (all the qualities that I want in a wife). In my last question in regards to polygamy, I said my uncle was 49 and his four wives were 16,16, 16 & 17. I have met them and they are very happy in their lives. To a muslim woman, the happiness of her husband is also her happiness. Our culture is different. Americans will never understand this. Why are women in the west loud, rude, controlling, angry, feminist, act like a man and disrepect their husbands? It must be torture to be married to an American woman. No wonder they need to turn to pronography and strip clubs to escape. We, on the other hand, are happy with our young, beautiful and submissive wives and enjoy spending time with them.

I dated a Free Will Baptist. The Free will baptist man was in the process of divorcing but lacked the finances to do so but he did manage to find the funding to get the process going. He had been seperated from his wife for two years and they were divorcing for adultery on his exs part.
I entered his life and we started a friendship that soon turned into much more as I we were both fond of each other...He loved the Lord...was a bible study leader, gave sermons in his church, volunteered at various canned food drives, was a youth leader, youth basketball coach and drove the church bus. He would do anything for anyone. He had a true heart of gold. I admired his outward qualities but I believe his "inner" man had some work to do.
After dating for nearly a year...I could not continue a relationship with a man who did not see the need to be free from his marriage. He wasnt trying to achieve it and didnt care about it....his family, his church, and his friends all thought he finished his divorce yet he decieved them all. I called him up and advised him that I could no longer continue the relationship as it was...as I felt like I was committing adultery.
He accepted this at first then after 3 weeks he dumped me, went out clubbing, hooked up with another woman who was still married and started seeing her. He finished his divorce...moved in with his new woman.....she finished her divorce and they got married. Never once did he lose status in his church and when I spoke to the pastor about my reasons for taking a breather from our relationship my ex advised me that the devil was using me to ruin church for him.
He claimed that since he wasnt married to me or engaged to me that he had every right to do this and he doesnt answer to man...he answers only to God. He claimed that he prayed what Gods will was for his life and that is when they met.
The church put her in a position of teaching before she was even divorced and while she was living with my ex. I am not judging but is this typical to not care what kind of life your flock leads?
Isnt it the pastors job to say something? I felt very used, when all I was trying to do was be obedient to the word of God.

I did not say that I was faultless, but when I tried to do what was right...which is what we should all strive to do...I got thrown under the bus.
Veggie, I understand that it wasnt the smartest choice to make but he sat down with my parents...convinced them and myself that he was sincere about his intentions with me and therefore I believed him.
Answer: Well, your absolutely right... He is accountable to God and we to our brethren.. The Church should be putting no man in charge if they are not abiding by God's word. Also, the Church should not be putting a women in charge or in any spiritual leadership role as well ... it sounds like a bad situation all the way around !
Who there is following God's word ? I think when it comes to these kind of situations at the end of the day it is just better to go someplace where there is not so many inaccuracies or deceitful teaching, :) it will be a matter of time before this happens again. No wonder why our Church is in a state of 911. God is looking for people in these last days to step up to this kind of non-sense, and put God's word back at the foundation of our beliefs !!
