FOR SINGAPORE JC PEOPLE. how to get into a good jc despite bad O level result?

Well, O level results are coming up and im worried i wont do well. probably 16-20 range ): im affiliated to Acjc and have 2 bonus point. so minus 4. but Acjc is 6 points... so i really dont think i can make it. im in the tennis team but not much to boast about cause im more or less a bench warmer, though i was complimented on my cca records. Im hoping that by appealing i can get in but they say appeals are usually rejected.. is there anyway i can get into a good jc and not those neighborhood kind? like pull strings? i dont mean to look down on those jc but my friends told me i wont do well for As there :/ so again im worried. i cant show them my prelim scores and such because they are seriously BAD. my school set the paper super hard almost the whole school didnt do well ): so. yea. And i cant really think about going poly cause i have no idea what course i would want to go for.if i had to choose id go for biomedical science but really. i might as well go Acjc or ajc if i got that point -.- so anyone can share some tips? :/ thanks alot!
Answer: Just cross your fingers and hope for the best, maybe you will do better than you expected? To be honest, if your results are not good enough to get into a good JC, you may not be able to keep up with all the school work and might risk getting retained.

Physics and Chem or Bio and Chem?

Hi i am currently sec 2 and i need to choose which science subjects i would be taking next year I am aiming to go Acjc and from there proceed to NUS Faculty of Dentistry I like physics however, although NUS website states that i would need a good A level pass either in Biology or Physics, i heard that NUS dont usually accept non-bio students? I like physics and i absolutely hate bio So what im asking is, which combination should i take if i am aiming to be a dentist in the future? I am considering triple science but i think it would be hard :/ suggestions? thanks :)
Answer: Biology seems the logical choice because of dentistry's involvement with biological things. Physics, however interesting, won't help you unless you're a physicist.

Spore govt school?

Why does spore govt not implement any useful curriculums such as AP, IB or SAT? Nowadays, even UK is not going to use any more of O and A level(GCSE). In addition, those O and A levels are not acceptable in countries like US, New zealand , canada or australia. It is only available in Uk. So my question is when is spore govt implement those curriculums? I know that only Acjc uses IB. I hope more JCs or middle schools implement those curriculums
Answer: The government controls the schools and, therefore, the testing standards requirements. With enough outside pressure, they could end up following the lead of other countries in test standardization.

JC aggregate scores (singaporeans only)?

Does anyone know the admission aggregate scores for all/some JCs in Singapore? thanks loads.(it would be good if you could tell me the score of Acjc and SAJC)
Answer: The L1R5 aggregate scores (with bonus points) of students admitted to JCs in JAE 2007 can be found here: http://sis.moe.gov.sg/schinfo/html/JCAggregateRange.htm Cut-off points for Acjc and SAJC are 7 and 8 (for Science stream), and 8 and 10 (for Arts stream) respectively.

Anglo chinese JC, a rich mans school?

Hey guys:) I heard from some people that Anglo-Chinese Junior College( not the independent one) is kinda a "rich mans school" and it would be a little intimidating for you, if you arent that rich. Like the students arriving in mercedes to school or having all branded goods...I just wanna know how true that is bcoz im considering Acjc as one of top priorities.It would be great if u could help me figure out.Cheers!
Answer: My cousin was in Anglo Chinese Junior Colledge and she was rich but humble.If you want to get into that school you will have to work hard because the cut off point this year was 6point and could keep decreasing.As long as you concentrate on your studies and have the passion to study in ACS,you won't have to care about being surrounded by rich people. Good Luck! And the best is yet to be.

You have Acjc on the HJ in a 6 max 50NL game on ftp. Villian is loose aggressive (maybe because the table is tight) You have been tight and laid down alot of quality hands too different players. Effective stacks are 48. You raise to 1.75. You get one caller on the CO (villian). Everyone else folds. Pot (4.25) Flop- AsQs7x. You bet 3. He calls after 5 sec, Turn (pot= 10.25) is Js. You bet 8. He calls after 10 sec. River is 4c. What do you do. Pot is 26.25. What do you do?
Answer: considering he didn't raise you at any point during this hand, i think i would go for a value bet of around $13...you have the best hand unless he was slowplaying a flush on the turn, and if he called on the turn with just top pair then there's a good chance he will pay you off on the river as well...also, if you get raised, then you have a pretty easy laydown, so you won't be creating any difficult situations for yourself by betting out

Probation violation questionnn.?

My friend was put on probation in December for running away and its Februrary and he was doing really well getting along with his p.o. and he was even taken off curfew and his only thing he had to do was visit his po and get drug tested every two weeks.. but last night he was out a friends house and 5 of them were walking around the neighborhood at 3 am and a cop stopped them........and because his record said he was on probabtion, he was taken back to Acjc...... but he wasnt really doing anything bad but obviously should not have been out that late! hes also underage and had cigarettes on him? which probably plays a role in this! BUT what might happen to him.. his court date is in two days? I was just wondering the possibilties. A little concerned.. extended probabtion?
Answer: More than likely he is going to have his probation extended. If he has already had his probation extended, he could be placed in detention until his next hearing to figure out what to do with him.

I am sitting at an 8 person table. I am on the button. Blinds are 100/200. I get dealt Acjc. One call and one raise to 400. I re-raise to 800 and get 2 calls. Three people in on the flop, it comes 4c5cKc. One check then a 1000 bet into a 3000 pot. I have about 6k worth of chips and go all in. One fold and 1 call. We turn them over and I am happy to see a Kh Js. I am way ahead..but by how much and what are the odds? A pair of kings vs a nut flush! I have tried to figure out my odds of loosing this had which I eventually did. The turn was a K and the river was a 6. What are the odds for a runner runner in this situation? Thanks to anyone who can explain it to me!! Flop was 5c6cKc giving her a Full House. Sorry.

URGENT:Why cant I apply for MEP in PAE?

I need an answer by 24th Friday 3pm (Singapore time)! The problem is, the information booklet says I have to apply for any elective programme while registering for PAE. So, I put Acjc as one of my choices, but when the screen asking me to choose which elective programme Im applying for comes up, MEP IS NOT AMONG THE CHOICES! What did I do wrong? Or is Acjc not offering MEP anymore? I need help urgently! The deadline for PAE registration is tommorrow at 4 p.m!!

Is it better to join ACJC String Ensemble or Chinese Orchestra as a CCA?

Also, do these CCAs favour students who have background in a particular instrument? Is it easier to learn the cello or a chinese orchestra instrument, say the erhu?
Answer: Of course if you have a music background it'll be to your advantage. Personally, i do not like Chinese orchestra but it's up to you cuz you have to put some thoughts into what you like better, be it for a short period of 2 years. Also, look at e number of awards of Acjc C.O and S.E, which provides u with more benefits and opportunities? Think about it=)

Anyone has any tips on how to study at home?

Im unable to study at home cause theres too much distractions and theres no motivation at home unlike when i study outside i have motivation and theres much lesser distractions. Im currenty in Secondary 3 and im aiming to go to Acjc. But based on my progress report, im not doing very well. Anyone has any tips? Thanks.
Answer: 1) You must afford to buy better books for your studies. 2) Very important, you must know what are current and future functions (if any) for everything you have studied from your school books and reference book. 3) You must dare to ask from friends and teachers for any unclear things in your books. 4) Make some simplest summaries for what you have studied in your books. 5) Think about what you want to do in future with what you have studied from the books. 6) Buy some good dictionaries for different languages like english and your own languages, etc and different fields like law and engineering, etc to find out the meanings for everything you are not understand about it's meaning.
