Answer: This is a tough and sensitive question. I was a caregiver for my mother for the last three years of her life. It was a labor of love and I will always cherish that time with her. I learned so much from her and about her in that time. I didn't give up the work until it went beyond my medical knowledge and capabilities the last 6 months of her life. It hurt to put her in an assisted living place, but they were wonderful to her up until the day she died. I still checked on her every day.

Answer: When we say bridge too far it means an act of over reacting, However it came from the bridge at Arnhem which the allies were trying to take, The operation was meant to be lightning fast, however at places like Arnhem the allies encountered heavy resistance, These troops were supported by tanks which would come and support them once they landed however these tanks got into trouble themselves and couldn't keep up efficiently with the Troops advance to Arnhem and so They went a bit to far, or A bridge too far.
Edit: the saying refers to The bridge at Arnhem, Nijimegan bridge was apart of the operation but was successful. It comes from the movie and book.

Answer: Warbird pilot is right. They are T-6 Texans (or Harvards which was the name they were known by in the UK).
I would say that the film is a bit inaccurate from a historical perspective in that sense, since the British didn't use Harvards in combat during WWII.
But then again, is no worst than the F-5s in Top Gun that pretend to be Mig-21s.
T-6 aircraft are widely used for WWII recreations (in airshows and such).

Answer: There isn't one. They had a minor controversy about it, because when the studio discussed submitting names for award consideration, it was revealed that no single actor was on screen for as much as 15% of the movie. So by the rules of whichever awards this was (maybe golden globes, I don't remember) no one in the entire movie qualified for anything other than a supporting role.

Why was the battle at Arnhem, Operation Market Garden referred to as "A bridge too far"?
Answer: It was a two part operation. The "Market " part was an Allied parachute drop on the town of Arnhem. The "Garden" part was of the operation was that the Allied 30th Corps (ground forces) were supposed to advance along one road to Arnhem and link up with the paratroops in Arnhem. However, there were several bridges on the one road to Arnhem. The Germans stopped the 30th Corps from crossing the last bridge and the paratroopers in Arnhem were surrounded and forced to surrender.
It's since been said that Operation Market Garden failed because the 30th Corps had to fight one "bridge to far."

I have tried to read the book "A bridge too far" for the 4th time now. I don`t know why but I can never get into the book. I like to read ww2 stuff, and loved the movie "A bridge too far", but just can`t get into the book. For some reason I have the same proble with lots of British authors. The book doesn`t appear to be intellectually challenging. I don`t know what it is. Other people claim its a wonderful book, I just can`t get past a hundred pages or so. Anyone else feel the same way about the book or other authors?
Answer: It is a great book, but like a lot of Cornelius Ryan's works, it can be difficult to get past the minutia at first. You may have an easier time if you watch the movie first. It's a great flick, but there was simply no way to put all the detail of the book into a movie. Once you see the movie, the book will offer you the details of what really happened in Operation Market-Garden.

I know a man who joined the infantry because he read that book.
do you think it is really that moving?
Answer: It is indeed a great book about WWII although it did not move me to join the forces.
But Ryan tells the story movingly, with passion. It is a book I'd recommend to those interested in learning about the intricacies of the war as individual soldiers experienced it.
