How does the Fed statement that unemployment will stay high over the next 2 years bode for Democrats in 2010?
Where are all those Obama supporters claiming it will keep dropping....Probably drinking some more Koo Aid mix...
One thing is certain many Democrat congress persons will be joining that high unemployment following the Republican Congressional route in 8 months from now :D
The Federal Reserve expects unemployment will stay high over the next two years because recession-scarred Americans are likely to stay cautious, making for only a moderate-paced economic recovery.
Fed policymakers said in a forecast released Wednesday that it will take "some time" for the economy and the jobs market to get back to normal. They did not spell out how long that would be. Previously they suggested it could take five or six years for economic conditions to return to full health. A "sizable minority," however, thinks it could take more than five or six years for the economy and the job market to return to normal.

Wall Street Loses Gains Following Dismal Fed Statement On U.S. Economy
Stocks lose gains seen after bouncing back from yesterday's crash following the Fed's statement indicating an economic downturn ahead.
Does the Fed action yesterday underscore Democrats & Obamas porkulated stimulus only added debt 2 our economy?
The Federal Reserve, facing an economic recovery that it termed "more modest" than anticipated, said Tuesday it will stop shrinking its huge portfolio of securities by reinvesting the proceeds of maturing mortgages in U.S. Treasury debt.
The Fed move is largely symbolic and is unlikely to stimulate the economy significantly. But the shift in the management of its portfolio—and an accompanying statement—underscored Fed officials concern about the vigor of the economic recovery. It also opens the door for bigger purchases of Treasurys or other securities should the economy falter or the risk of deflation grow, though the hurdle for such action remains high.

Why does the Fed buying back treasuries decrease unemployment?
Bloomberg had an article with the statement "The Federal Reserve will buy as much as $65 billion in Treasuries a month as it attempts to stem job losses."
Why does buying back treasuries stem job losses? I dont see the connection.
Thanks for the answers but I am still confused. If they buy back treasuries wont that raise the price, hence increase the yield? If the yields increases then it costs us more to borrow and raise interest rates?
Answer: Re:Why does the Fed buying back treasuries decrease unemployment?
It doesn't directly. It just pumps more liquidity into the system so banks will have more to lend, and hopefully make more loans to businesses and consumers.
Re: If they buy back treasuries won't that raise the price, hence increase the yield? If the yields increases then it costs us more to borrow and raise interest rates?
Good followup question.
Yes, it MAY raise interest on Treasuries it reduces the supply of available Treasuries.
However, that just makes loans to business and consumer more attractive to banks than Treasuries.
Feel free to post more follow-ups if you need more clarification, I'll check back...

When Federal Open Market Committee Statement comes out next week, what will the 1st sentence say?
Ive been searching the internet for this information, and I dont know how to search for something that hasnt even happened yet. So I need to know what the first sentence will say when the FOMC comes out, and why will it say this.
Answer: In the past, they have always opened by saying, "Our crystal ball obviously can not see the future, but we believe the economy is....."
They will say this because it is tradition, then they will go on to say how the economy is doing, and how it will do.

How does the federal government defend their statement of making marijuana illegal?
In what ways can the government defend their position of criminalizing the use of marijuana (or any controlled substance for that matter) through the use of the constitution. If Im not mistaken all aspects not addressed in the constitution are reserved to the states. How is criminalizing certain substances acceptable, where as it is not for similarly harmful substances such as tobacco or alcohol?
Answer: How does the government justify making cigarettes legal and marijuana illegal? That's the question over 42% of Americans have been asking themselves since the 70's. There are many reasons why our government is playing monopoly with this issue. First on the list is the Religious Right which has always had a lot of pull in government. Firmly believers that marijuana is dangerous evil drug that destroys lives. 2) Paper, and textile manufacturers lobbyists are stalling it because they don't not want the competition. 3) Many say the CIA has fought to keep it illegal in order to maintain a artificial market; which allows them to run drugs and raise money for "Black Projects."
It's sad really when you look at how many non violent drug offenders behind bars in this country. It is a shame that we have decided to incarcerate these people rather than treat them and provide an alternative to such damaging behavior. Politicians are hooked on the prison money they get from all these non violent drug offenders in jail. Don't forget all the private prison industry lobbyist as well.

Answer: Correction. America is a Republic, thus the government is a Republic. Not a Democratic government.

Forgot to add a copy of the home purchase settlement statement to my federal tax return?
Im a tard and didnt add a copy of my Home purchase settlement statement to my federal tax return and I mailed it... Im sure this is going to make it take twice as long now, but does anyone know if I can send it to them now? or do I, or should I, wait until they review it?
How about a phone number I can call and ask?
Answer: It won't take twice as long - but it will delay it. Don't send it now, it'll just get lost in the pile. Wait until they review yours - they'll ask for it then. You can fax it to them - shouldn't result in a big delay.

how do you write a narrative statement on a federal jobs application?
the application for the position i want tells me that i should write a narrative statement that covers the Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA) set that is required for the job. there are four points. each reads something like "knowledge of communication and management principles, methods, and techniques." there is little guidance on how to do this. i was thinking of responding to each point in first-person format, detailing aspects from my experience that would highlight concrete accomplishments in those areas that you would expect someone with that skillset to have. is that appropriate?
Answer: To whom it may concern,
I understand your point concerning to this famous topic basing to your past question about the issue of federalism which maybe or maybe not the solution for forming a new system of government.
In fact your present question though i not sure if this is the answer you are expecting to receive I think this statement for federal jobs application that you explained I will go for it. If it is to do with managing or directing a domain or sort of administration whatsoever I gather your proposition is the right action to be taken.
So i think you can do that and wait what outcome you may get and how far you will go for it.
This space I want to take it for granted to bring back your past question about federalism might bring good result to the Philippines.
In fact I was one of those who thought it won't do good especially with the presence of the arroyo family the injustice that they are doing to the country authomatically people like me will say no.
The truth is why not first define the word federal to the population then propose this type of government.Maybe it's good for the philippines but federal system means one boss for the whole country and everybody has to submit to HER majesty and no one will disagree because the whole population voted for her to be the boss.
Therefore she wants it that way to be the center.
Now if you have a different difinition for the famous word federal let the whole country understand the purpose.Because in Europe most government is Republic except Germany and Russia I think otherwise is what I said. But the thing is white people has a highly respect to their government and disciplined people base to their upbringing, but filipinos are kind of people believes more on getting things by force all by means whether by killing their advesary or beat them to death.
Giving the freedom to the arroyos it will result to same regime of the marcuses. In fact whether philippines becomes federal or republic won't change much. the best thing that philippines can do is to discentralise the services by giving the power issuing papers to those who wants to have their lives change, like example the issuance of visa papers example like here in europe. Just in France you can have visa issued by an extension embassy and in Belgium as well.
Philippines has a lot of big cities who can perform this type of procedure, without going to the capital, this you can propose to the government. It's not normal people from Vigan goes to manila for visa procedure, just question of distance and money it's not logic, we are in the 21st century and the system is still stone age.
back to your question of application it's a good idea as long as your skill is management it will work.
I hope you will publish this answer of mine in your press as well as my proposition about the present system of the government.
thanks a lot hope you will consider this letter and put in the issue
Respectfully yours,
joryday

What does this federal government budget statement mean?
"Includes $33.0 billion for a 2010 supplemental request"
Does the above statement mean that that is extra money for miscellaneous use or something?
Answer: When many governmental programs are funded, they are merely funded at anticipated expenditure rates. However, circumstance may arise which require the authorizing agency to expend funds at an accelerated rate. For example, FEMA is tasked with managing natural disasters. It has an operating budget to fund its activities; but the agency has no way of knowing how many disasters it will be forced to contend with in the course of the year.
It's conceivable, therefore, that a great many disasters could deplete the agency's budget half way through the fiscal year. In that case, FEMA will request additional funding in the form of a "Supplemental Request."
This is a common budgetary procedure.

How does the Fed inject money by buying bonds ?
I read this statement below and it states that the Fed buys bonds to inject cash into the economy. How does this process work and what bonds are they buying ? Treasury bonds ? If this is the case, it seems like a big scam since the Fed/Treasury are essentially both Government anyway.
"First, the Fed will start modifying the language in its regular policy statements, gradually raising the prospect of an end to cheap money. It will ease up on the bond purchases it uses to inject cash into the economy. Finally, it will raise rates."
Answer: Simple, when they buy bonds back they are paying for them with cash, so the institutions that were holding the bonds now have cash, and in the case of lending institutions they can lend it out.

What does it mean by "the Fed injected liquidity" into the market? US Govt printing more money?
AFX News Limited
US Fed reportedly injects 24 bln usd to calm markets
08.09.07, 11:33 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Thomson Financial) - The US Federal Reserve has reportedly injected 24 bln usd into financial markets this morning, higher than the 15 bln usd markets had expected.
This in turn suggests that funding issues in the US are running near normal which also suggests that the funds rate will likely tend to move lower over the course of the session. The market appears to be appreciating the benign implications with treasury prices now coming off the boil, said Kenneth Logan at Thomson IFR Markets says
There was no statement from the Fed or indication of any to come but in the past it has said it would stand ready to inject liquidity if needed during periods of Wall Street turmoil.
Answer: Well, the government can always print more money. But it does not simply print money and then dump it from the sky or place it evenly into commercial banks. There has to be some mechanism for getting extra cash into the public's hands.
It accomplishes this by using "Open Market Operations." Look up that term and the term "Monetary Policy" on http://www.investopedia.com . Interesting reading material.
Basically, the Federal Reserve bank has excess cash it keeps out of the system. It will then release this cash into the system to increase the money supply. To do this, the Federal Reserve bank purchases Treasury Bonds from investors on the open market (hence the name, "open market operations"). The Fed receives these bonds and holds them inactive. In return, the Fed transfers cash into the investor's bank accounts, because the Fed gas to pay for these bonds. Walla .... increased cash to the public. The Fed can run this operation in reverse - sell their Treasury bonds to the public and take back cash in exchange - to decrease the money supply. So, the Fed is able to use the free will of investors to influence the money supply.
The Fed also has two other tools at its disposal to affect monetary policy. It can change the discount rate as well as change the reserve requirement for commercial banks. However, the Fed rarely messes with the reserve requirement and prefers to use open market operations and changes in the discount rate to facilitate its monetary policy.
The money supply and interest rates go hand in hand. As the money supply expands, money becomes more available and thus it is less costly to borrow it. As the money supply shrinks, money is scarce and more "rare" ... hence interest rates rise. You can think of interest rates as the cost of borrowing money. In other words, it is more costly to borrow scarce money than abundant money.

Question on interpreting a statement about federal taxes?
What does this statement mean? I have never gotten anything about taxes. "If you are a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident, no federal taxes will be withheld automatically from your payments." Please be as simplistic as possible. Thank you.
So, I will not get taxed on the check?
Answer: They won't withhold taxes. That doesn't mean it's not taxable income that you report on your tax return, and pay tax on it then.

FRB: Press Release--FOMC statement--November 3, 2010
Nov 3, 2010 ... The Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington DC.
should the federal goverment gives us tax payers a statement on social security taxes?
should the goverment send us tax payers every year a statement on how much taxes we have put into the social security account for our retirement and what do they do with all the money they deduct from our salaries since we have been working all our life and paying into SSI for our future retirement.
Answer: There is no account with your name on it. The money is mingled with everyone else's and used to pay current recipients and help cover the national debt.
The SSA does send an annual statement with your recorded earnings history. It also shows how much you paid into for FICA/MC.
By the way SS retirement and disability benefits are not SSI. SSI is for destitute people.
