What I mean is that for example, if Cancer begins in June, why is it appearing in the Spring rather than in June-July? The reason why I asked is because I had assumed that the constellations would have corresponded to horoscope. I was not asking an astrology question per se.
Answer: It's because of precession. The earth's axis is not stable. The earth is not a perfect sphere, but flattens out at the poles and bulges at the equator. It reacts to the the gravitational influence of the sun and moon like a spinning top whose rotation is distorted by some external force: this causes what has been termed the earth's precession - which means that the earth's axis itself rotates in a circle, leading to a conical movement around the fixed pole of the ecliptic. One complete rotation around this cone takes roughly 26000 years. This shifting of the earth's axis causes the celestial equator to shift so that the point of intersection between it and the ecliptic - the vernal equinox - moves from east to west along the circle of the ecliptic, i.e. in the opposite direction to the standard zodiac. It takes about 26000 years for the vernal equinox to make one complete revolution around the ecliptic, i.e. through all of the twelve constellations. It takes around one twelfth of this time - roughly 2160 years - to traverse one sign of the zodiac. In antiquity the vernal equinox was situated between the signs of Pisces and Aries, and because of its retrograde movement through the zodiac is at present situated in the border zone between the constellations of Pisces and Aquarius, moving slowly towards Aquarius. Because the constellations lack clear boundaries, it is difficult to say exactly when the vernal equinox will move from the constellation of Pisces into that of Aquarius, i.e. when the so-called Age of Aquarius will begin. Depending on where the boundary is drawn this will occur somewhere between 2100 and 2500 AD.

Answer: The superstition behind the horoscope signs is that the constellation the Sun was in when you were born has some meaning to your life. It's doesn't. The dates given with the signs are supposed to be the dates the Sun is in that particular constellation. They're all wrong, and have been for about a thousand years, but since astrology doesn't work anyway, it doesn't matter.

Your sign traits do not change- the circumstances and your reactions to them do. However, full moons do bring out a weirdness in people, two days before and two days after. Why do horoscope dates move?

Hi, How come the dates the define each horoscope move? Im born on the last day of Gemini, so sometimes when I open a magazine it says Im a Cancerian. Is it just people using different dates or do they actually shift systematically, like once in every four years Im a cancer?
Answer: Horoscopes are not an exact science... or a science at all. The dates are arbitrary and are completely wrong to start with. These magazines kind of just make up the dates. The ancient Greeks used a system of the stars and assigned dates. They say, if you were born around this time of the year, you are part of what zodiac. However, this is all wrong. The way horoscopes were originally set is by where the constellations are in the sky with relation to the sun as the earth moved around. The zodiac is defined by the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Sun as it is projected on the sky. This projection is a line that circles the sky and is called the ecliptic. These change every year and are currently nothing close to the regularly perceived dates that were adopted from the Greeks.The Sun is in a given constellation do not line up with the astrological dates of the constellation. For example, my birthday is in September, but I am a Libra, not a Virgo. This is because the astrological zodiacal signs were invented about 3000 years ago, and since then, the precession of the Earth's axis (the change in the direction that the Earth's axis points) has shifted the constellations over. In fact, there are actually between 13-24 constellations. Each taking a different amount of area. It was just decided to divide the sky into 12 equal sectors. Actually even the ancient astrologists used 13 zodiac signs. Ophiuchus, the thirteenth constellation, is positioned between Scorpius and Sagittarius. To answer your question, the dates do change from year to year; however, they are nothing close to the commonly decided on dates. The astronomical science is completely wrong and has little backing. You can believe astrology as you like (but then you cannot ask scientific questions as you have). If you believe in it, then just decide on one.. if not read both... I'm sure they both (or all) fit.

Are the new horoscope dates for everyone or only if you were born after a certain year?

The media just doesn't know the difference between Sidereal astrology and Tropical astrology, so they announced the dates to Sidereal astrology cuz they were ignorant about it even existing. It's been practiced in the far east for 1000s of years! But the majority of westerners/Americans practice Tropical astrology. Those are the dates you've been used to and those date won't ever change.
