It seems coverage of World News is skewed towards only the negative. How about positive news?
Do you have any news from your part of the world that dicusses positive things happening over there? What country are you from and what is happening there? A community making strides towards educating its inhabitants? Someone making your day better? Whatever, it is, so long as it is diversion from all the negative news I hear all through the day, please share it with me.
Answer: There is a weekly paper printed in Williamsport, PA, called Grit. It has positive blurbs in it, not necessarily current events, but warm and fuzzy occurrences that make you feel better about the world. I am from the US, and I know that there are positive things that go on unreported. One of my favorites is a pregnancy center that I volunteer at. The woman who founded it did so on prayer. Even though some people do pledge her a set amount, most months are like humans - hoping for enough money to pay the bills. None the less, there is a "baby store" where infants through age 4 can get clothing, furniture when available, formula, some food items, anything relating to that age group. Pregnancy tests are administered and there is some pregnancy clothing available. With no economic nor geographic guidelines, we are able to serve a good many families who would experience difficulty otherwise. My church group just had a bake sale and got matching funds so we could donate $2000 to The Wellspring Pregnancy Center in Cadiz, Ohio!

12 Things Really Educated People Know
Aug 14, 2009 ... 12 Things You Might Not Have Learned in a Classroom.
Spiritually speaking, what does it take to be educated?
Ive seen a few people refer to "so called educated" people or questioning how educated certain people are--of all religions. So, just to clear this up, in R&S, what does it take to be educated?
A high school diploma? A GED? A 4.0 in High school and/or college? A Bachelors Degree? A Ph. D? What, in your opinion makes someone educated?
And if someone is, does that mean theyre religious opinions have more merit?
Answer: Yes because Christians can have careers too. Like me.
Education cannot (save) the soul but it is good to have it if you want a decent job. We still have to function on this earth as practical people adn God wants us to be a good steward of all of everything we are blessed with. He can and will use it all. Even our education.
But nothing is like a Spirit led messege. That is much more then education.

Whatever happened to live and let live?
Why is it that so many people spend so much energy trying to convert people to their beliefs? (both sides are guilty of this) I am not one to say that discussion is a bad thing, I think sharing beliefs is a good thing. But so many people are all "Your beliefs are wrong, you MUST agree with me and think what I do!"
If you are religious, feel good knowing you educated them and know they have the ability to make an educated decision about whether or not to believe.
If you are not religious, dont try to make the religious feel stupid for believing. Everyone has a right to think something if it makes them happy. If thinking there is something after life that makes someone happy, who are you to take that from them, and call them stupid for it?
Answer: I think that idea went out with the invention of the semi-automatic pistol.

psychology question. What are the motives behind trying to make someone feel inadequate?
Why would another girl try to make another girl feel inadequate. Surely everyone is free to their own opinion, i mean its fine to talk about how successful another person is, but what about when this compliment becomes constant bragging. What is the motive behind trying to make another person feel jealous and perhaps even inadequate. An example would be if person A contantly brags about how intelligent a friend is because they have a degree, this bragging is done in front of the friend and in front of person B, funny thing is that person B never gets this much attention even though they are more educated. What is the motive behind trying to make someone jealous, is it hate, jealousy, envy?
this is for an assignment
Answer: The motive can vary and I would have to experience the situation myself to make an honest judgement, however I would say often when an individual consciously or subconsciously attempts to make someone else feel inadequate it is due to their own insecurities or as you have already said, jealously.

Why do we have to look for a problem with society?
"Its kids these days, they arent as disciplined as we used to be!"
"Its the parents, they need to have a more active role in their childs lives!"
"Its the schools, the standards are so low compared to what they used to be!"
You know what I think is wrong with society? That we always have to look for something wrong.
There is right and wrong in everything, if youre looking for something wrong, youre going to find it, if youre looking for something right, youll also most likely find it. But theres always a voice in the back of your head, urging you to not see the good, and to focus on the bad, this voice is pride, I dont want to risk embarrassing myself or discrediting myself, I dont want to sound corny even if what I say is 100% true and I know sometimes people neglect to remember it even though I may consider it painfully obvious.
You know what I think is wrong with society? THAT WE HAVE TO LOOK FOR A PROBLEM WITH SOCIETY.
Why do people have to be "wrong?" Why do some feel the need to always be "right," at all costs?
From my experiences its much better to be kind, loving, understanding, compassionate and patient than it is to be right.
Dont people realize, in their goal to be "right," theyre doing the exact opposite?
What might be right for you, might not be right for some. If whatever the act is makes someone happy, and doesnt hurt anyone, then what is the problem?
People want world peace, but thats never going to happen if we continue to reguard the things that will lead us there as a joke.
Understanding, patience, and most importantly unconditional love towards our fellow man.
People are so worried about being a "success in life" theyre doing the exact opposite. Why do people care if others are like them? Everybody is different, the sooner we all learn to not just accept that, but embrace that, the sooner well come closer to world peace.
I am not going to focus on specifics, because I know my examples can and WILL be attacked, and I dont blame the people that would attack them, because I know its what society has influenced them to beleive, I know that not everybody cant be as insightful as me, and you know what, I embrace that, I like that about me, but it doesnt mean everybody else has to be like that.
Dont you see these are the same hateful tendencies that lead to the holocaust and racism? As time goes on we have learned to embrace our fellow man more and more(though sometimes taking 2 steps forward, 1 step back, see: the 70s), but why cant we embrace everybodies differences, why do we have to single certain differences out, like career decisions, why are high school dropouts singled out as failures? School isnt for everybody, we also need to realize that dropouts may not even be caused because the person in question doesnt like school, but because of reasons that he/she doesnt feel he can share with other people because of their expectations for him/her, maybe they feel forced? Who knows, Im not that person. This is where patience and understanding comes into play. Demanding the teen goes to school, or demanding a reason why is NOT the route to go, you might get the child in question to go to school, but at what costs? Things arent like they are on TV, has it ever crossed peoples mind that teenagers are moody because theyre finally starting to see the world around them for what it is but at the same time feel that they havent seen enough to make an educated decision which makes them not want to share their feelings? Theres a reason for everything, but sometimes its not so obvious. For all you know maybe the teen is ignorant, and showing patience and understanding might get them to share their feelings or reasoning for certain things, in which case you can relate to them and educate them.
But what must always be remembered a persons happiness>what you want for them.
Ive done a lot of thinking and it all stems down to this, people that cant simply accept that if something brings happiness to someone or something and doesnt hurt someone or something then theres nothing wrong with it.
What is it that makes us always look for something wrong with society? Why do we do this to eachother?
Answer: G Your question is important and your exposition is reasoned and correct. Do you want to go to the next stage and do something about it while you learn the answer to the question?

Most people think it could never happen to them. They're too educated, too savvy, too world-wise to be swept into a cult. But that's not what the statistics show. Research has found that cult members are not “crazy people” but are very much like the rest of us. What makes a person a potential cult victim is not their personality type as much as where they're at in life. There are certain times when people are more vulnerable than others to the lure of a ...
what makes someone a good person?
How do we judge the quality of ones life? If someone is well educated, does that make them a good person? If not, is it right that we reward them with a good job and high income? for that matter, is education the same as intelligence? Is it fair that some adults work as high income computer engineers, and are able to provide for their families and afford any luxury they want, while others are forced into poverty? Ive been thinking alot about this kind of stuff and i think Anarcho-Marxist-Communism is the solution, what do you think?
Answer: You judge the quality of one's life by setting it next to what they have accomplished, and what they have done with what they have accomplished or what they have.
By no means does a good education make you a good person, it makes you well educated.
I mean if they have put forth all the effort and have actually worked so hard I don't see whats wrong with rewarding, i just wish they would do more with it.
No way, intelligence is something you must obtain or are born with. Often those with an education abuse it and do not learn anything, making them far from intelligent.
No, but they must work as well, they are just fortunate. Others I don't think are so much FORCED into poverty as just unfortunate.
I think the solution is never communism, communism is flawed though I must admit that so is our current way of thinking. If there is any solution it is beyond our grasp. There are too many abusers out there to even allow us to make t anywhere near perfection

How Do You Make An Educated Arguement Against Someone Who Is Unable To Accept The Truth?
Well, this guy is always emailing.Hes a black american, and hes so fixated on Black Latinos and he comes up with these statistics that are ridiculous an hes always like 90% of black latina women go out with white latino men and that theres an inbalance between black latino men and black latinas in latin america.
Hes always saying the "white man" is holding blacks down and that society is built for the black man to fail. And then he got into an arguement with me saying mexicans committ all of the rapes and murders and that they have the highest percentage and population of people in Prison and they come and take the jobs away from black people.I would post his emails here, but there are too many. And hes always calling black latina women self haters for dating white latinos and for not dating black american men.
How do you make an educated arguement against someone who bases all of these facts on the few latinos hes talked to or from his observation.
Hes always saying "truth hurts" and i know truth hurts and tells me i dont know what im talking about.
He sounds really ignorant stupid and doesnt even realize it.He cant even spell correctly. How do i go about this?
Btw,if he comes on,i might have to delete this lol
Zeke:I did
Julia:Lol.Yea on those Qs,im talking about the same person.lol.sorry if it bothers you.Its that same one person
Answer: If he's unable to accept the truth, he probably will not be able to understand that, while society is "built to hold the black man down", it is up to him to rise above it. Everybody is responsible for their own success and failure, so present it to him as a challenge.
Ask him this: "Aren't you strong enough to be better than society expects you to be?"
He'll either eat his own words, or he'll fall into society's trap of "keeping the black man down".

What makes someone "well-educated", and is this linked to Feminism?
I have read that women with college degrees are more likely to self-identify as "feminist". This is often stated as "well-educated women are feminists". But what makes a person well-educated?
1) A college degree
2) A knowledge of classic literature
3) The ability to read and understand the newspaper
4) The ability to sort out the "spin" and bias of a news article
5) an understanding of history
6) an understanding of the "big picture" (wars are fought by people with varying beliefs, not "good guys" vs. "bad guys" for example)
Or is it something else entirely? And finally, does your defnition of "well-educated" support the ideologies of modern feminism? (The feminism of Friedan, De Beauvoir, MacKinnon, Faludi, etc.)
Great point, Tracy: Ill add another possible choice - the ability to see the "shades of grey".
Answer: If one considers learning bigotry in a university setting to be "well educated", then feminists are the most educated of all.
It doesn't make them intelligent, just easily mislead.

Do you feel that a well educated person (or someone with good grades) necessarily makes them smart?
I feel like everyone around me in school thinks that your grades are what make you smart or not. I disagree. I think someone can be incredibly intelligent, very insightful and bright, but not have good grades. I am a senior in tenth grade math, does that make me stupid? because Im not good at math? I think that sounds a bit absurd. What do you think?
Answer: I recently had to BS my way through a mid-term discussing a paper written about this in my English class; I forgot to read the paper, thus having to BS the whole essay. (going on my 3'rd semester in college soon). I got a B on this due to my long, well thought-out answer. But, to put it in short, your intellect is not defined by your education. It's not even close. I have a friend who's got a GPA .2 above mine and he couldn't figure out how to do simple daily things without having to read about them first.
You can study and get good grades, but if you're not smart then you're not going to remember it for very long, and none of that adds to the baring of your common sense or ability to figure something out for yourself.

What makes a person well educated?
What books/authors do they need to read? Where are the places they need to go? What are the things they need to do?
What makes someone well-rounded and well-educated?
Answer: Who is judging? Making it through high school and/or college you're likely to read a sampling of most of the classic literature. The bible is the number one printed book in the world. It is the book printed in the most languages and available to most people in their native tongue. I would consider reading that to become a well rounded person. As far as places to go, that is your call. You can learn much just from people in your own town. They all have vast amounts of knowledge and experiences waiting to share them with you. Learn a foreign language or two...then visit that country. Do volunteer work. Help neighbors and family. Their is a scripture that says there is more happiness in giving then there is in receiving. That is so extremely true. Best wishes!
