AWFUL MISUSE AND HUMILIATION OF ARMY UNIFORM I am reproducing the relevant text of some of the press reports from across the country and the world depicting the dastardly acts of militants clad in Army uniform, the likes of which have been shaking up the world for ages. *Militants in Army uniforms mowed down 25 villagers in Champanan. The act was repeated in Thakrai and Sarban villages near Kishtwar. Dressed in olive green Army uniforms, the ultras killed innocent villagers in cold blood. On its part, the administration had given several assurances that the recurrence of such incidents would be checked. *Once again, the militants used combat uniforms to gain entry into the residential area of the Army family quarters when they struck, killing 30 people and injuring another 50. When they boarded the Himachal Roadways bus near Vijaypur town early in the morning, all passengers took them to be bonafide Army personnel carrying weapons. As such, there was no reason for the passengers to panic. Later, when the militants asked the driver to stop near the Kalu Chak Army camp, he obliged thinking they had reached their unit area and wanted to get down. It was seconds later when they opened fire that the other passengers realized the gravity of the situation, but by then it was too late. The incident has highlighted the government’s failure to check the open and uncontrolled sale of cloth used for making Army uniforms in the markets throughout the region. Though district magistrates (DMs) of various districts have, from time to time, sought to check the sale of this cloth, their orders have remained mere words which were never enforced. The then Chief Minister, Mr Farooq Abdullah readily admitted the government’s failure to check the open sale of cloth used for making Army uniforms though it has been misused by the militants time and again. However, he said that henceforth, the government would pass such orders as would be strictly enforced and seek to punish the errant shopkeepers. The then Governor Girish Chander Saxena said going by the number of incidents in which militants wearing Army uniforms had carried out different types of attacks, it was imperative to ban the open sale of uniform cloth. Asked how such ban orders would be implemented when the government had failed to do so in the past, senior civil and police officials said if the government showed the will, they had the wherewithal to enforce the orders. *Stepping up violence, heavily-armed militants in military uniform stormed an Army camp killing seven jawans and injuring six others at Akhnoor. *One Brigadier and seven jawans were killed, and 12 injured when three militants in Army uniforms attacked an Army camp in Tanda, about 40km north of Jammu on the road to Poonch. The militants alighted from a vehicle and began firing at the security guards at the 610 EME Battalion Camp. They managed to enter deep inside the camp hurling grenades and opening indiscriminate fire, disguising themselves as Army personnel. The attack came less than 12 hours after an attack by Army uniform clad militants in Banganga near Katra in which six devotees were killed. The site is on the way to the Vaishno Devi shrine. *Just when reports in the media suggested that things were looking up in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K,) came a major suicide attack by Army uniform clad militants on an Army camp at Sanjwan near the states winter capital, Jammu. The attack came on the final day of the then President A P J Abdul Kalams visit to the region. Militants, dressed in Army uniforms, cut their way through fencing to enter the Army camp and then made their way to a barrack and shot dead about 12 sleeping Army personnel. The two militants were killed in the encounter that followed. A little-known group, the al-Nasireen, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Indian intelligence agencies, however, believe that the attack was masterminded by the Lashkar-e-Toiba and was made easy by the local shopkeepers selling various items of Army uniform. *At least 20 Islamic militants of Fatah Islam were killed when they launched an attack against the Lebanese Army from a position located in the Nahr al- Bared Palestinian refugee camp. Two Army soldiers were also killed. The Fatah Islam militants were trying to escape from the camp when the Army confronted them. Some twenty were killed and several others were wounded. The militants were dressed in Lebanese Army uniforms. *Suspected al-Qaida militants wearing Iraqi Army uniforms killed up to 13 people in a raid on a district south of Baghdad. Clad in Military uniform, militants have killed two Iraqi soldiers and eight members of an anti-al-Qaeda group near the Baghdad capital. The activists raided a checkpoint in a village south of the capital. The militants took with them an army vehicle and raided the Hawr Rajab Awakening Council Headquarters. *Pakistani gunship helicopters launched fresh attacks on pro-Taliban bunkers in the troubled northwest, as clashes left nearly 100 militants dead. Militants "disguised some of their dead bodies in the uniform of the Frontier Constabulary" to make it appear as if they were soldiers. *Taliban militants wearing Afghan Army uniforms attacked a remote NATO base in eastern Afghanistan, leaving two Afghan soldiers dead and 11 alliance soldiers wounded. The militants wearing Afghan Army uniforms approached the NATOs forward operating base in mountainous Nuristan province, before launching the attack. *The LTTE cadres in Army uniform exploded a claymore mine and directed small arms fire at Kalvettai in Marudankulam Vavuniya. The PLOTE Leader said that was a very dangerous trend. "We have heard of similar attacks earlier but at that time we did not have any concrete evidence. This time round, we are positive that it was the LTTE cadres in the Sri Lanka Army uniforms who were firing at unarmed civilians to put the blame on the Army," he said. *The SLA in Jaffna said that it caught two robbers who were looting a house around. The SLA said that the robbers were civilians dressed in army uniforms. **************** In our country, most of the Security Guards at Malls, Hotels and Restaurants, Corporate Houses, Factories and other public places attire themselves in uniform which comprises of a number of items of Army uniform, and wear it in such a shoddy manner that it brings an awful disrepute to the uniformed soldiers. Photographs, appearing in the newspapers, of the camps and hideouts of various militant groups across the globe disclose the rampant misuse of Army uniform by their cadres. School and college going children adorn themselves in combat trousers or combat vests, not realizing an iota of the sanctity attached to the fabric. Commercial film makers do the maximum damage. A comedian will attire himself in an Army uniform and conduct himself in such a disgraceful manner which certainly makes his character quite comic, but at a huge cost. The nation pays tribute to a soldier who gives the supreme sacrifice of his life for safeguarding its territorial integrity, by draping his mortal remains in the National Tricolour before being laid to rest. Then why is his uniform subjected to extreme indignity and humiliation – the uniform which is a matter of pride for him from the day he joins the Army, the uniform to which he gives the utmost regards all throughout his life and the uniform in which he fights, breathes his last and sleeps forever, for the tomorrow of the nation. We all in the nation need to take on the onerous responsibility of putting in concerted efforts to revive the respect and glory of the Army uniform. All the four estates of our democracy – the media, the legislature, the executive and the judiciary, alongwith the ever important support of the citizens, need to combine to take this noble step, which will have far reaching consequences towards creation of a better nation, a nation - we all will be proud of.
Answer: I read your complete question with lot of interest, and disagree with anyone who feels it is not worth taking out time to read it. You are right, this is an area of major concern. Not only is it degrading the image of the Army, it is also a huge security risk, as anyone can manage to buy a uniform from the market. There are some steps that the government and police should institute to curb this menace. Sale of uniforms and other military material should be permitted only from authorized shops in the military cantonments. A rule should be legislated that forbids any civilian from wearing military uniforms and abusing them by putting the camouflage pattern cloth to unsoldierly uses such as suitcase covers. Anyone acting in contravention should be strictly dealt with by the law.

This is terrible... Jammu, March 28 (IANS) Not all marriages are made in heaven. Some are solemnised at the point of a gun - as many women and teenaged girls in Jammu and Kashmir will tell you. Forced marriage to militants has wrecked their lives in the insurgency-wracked state. Fatima Bi, now 16, who belonged to Chatroo, a mountainous village in Kishtwar district, told IANS over telephone that she was just 12 when she was abducted by militants. She was studying in Class 7 in a local government school when one day a group of four militants led by Sher Khan, then divisional commander of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI), barged into their house and kidnapped her. I was studying at that time when they abducted me, she said. They took me to their hideout in the nearby forest where they beat me and tortured me for eight days. They hit me with rods on my thighs and threatened to kill my family if I did not marry Hashim Ditta, she said. She said Ditta was a close friend of Sher Khan and a helper of HUJI. She was forced to marry Ditta at gun point, said a police officer in Kishtwar. Fatima wanted to study and become a teacher. But my dreams were shattered after they abducted and forcibly married me to Ditta, Fatima said. Ten months after her marriage she gave birth to a son and her childhood was snatched away when I delivered this baby. A happy moment for Fatima came when Sher Khan along with his two associates surrendered before the security forces last year. Sher Khan was sentenced to imprisonment for eight years. Fatima took this as an opportunity and fled Dittas house along with her infant son. Dittas parents, however, lodged a missing person report with police. Fatima went to her relatives in an adjoining village and fell in love with a farmer. Her second chance at life was however not so easy as the local clerics said even if it was a forced marriage, Fatima would have to live with Ditta until they got legally separated. Similar is the story of 18-year-old Chana whose nightmare started in early 2007. A Harkat-ul-Ansar (HUA) militant called Farid fell for her when he saw her grazing cattle in the Chicha area of Kishtwar district. She too was forced to marry at gun point. A few months later, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant, Khalid, operating in the area, wanted to marry Chana and asked Farid to divorce her. But when Farid declined, the LeT militant shot him dead and also shot Chana in the left leg. What was deep rooted conspiracy behind Amarnath land trasfer scandal triggered by ex governor, J&K S K Sinha ?

I dont know reality. Many reports came but most accepted one is that former governer of J & K Lt. Gen. S K Sinha framed a dangerous conspiracy of 4 square km thick jungle land transfer to outsiders(all VHP Fascists) between Baltal & Pahalgam to make Amarnath Nagar, at the pretext of making temporarily shelters & toilets of fibre glass material for 5 lakh pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra for 2 months only but the structues will actually be permanent as none will destroy so many houses again & again & those will not be vacant too before & after the Yatra as dismantling, carrying again & disposing will create further problems all along the narrow roads of Kashmir. First of all, the lingam itself exists only for two weeks & massive earthquake in 2005 has shaken the mountain badly, disturbing internal path of thin water inside falling drop by drop in the cave from the roof making the lingam(Barfani Baba) smaller in size & of shorter duration too & last year lingam didnt form at all. Due to large number of pilgrims coming in lakhs instead of thousands before 1993, the increase in heat of air is causing lingan melting earlier too. There is no guarantee that in future the lingam will even be formed at all. For making those structures, thick forest of 200 feet tall trees 2-3 feet apart will be chopped off causing heavy soil erosion, landslides, shrinking & vanishing of many glaciers providing river waters causing drying of Lidder & other rivers & thousands of cold water springs. If those structures are actually made & 5 lakh people live there inside, naturally there will be cooking facilities inside too causing them heating that area further, causing snow around that too melting causing complete non formation of lingam at all forever too making Yatra meaningless. He proposed for making a road between the two places & a cable car too, further sacrificing more green jungle belt, sacrificing crores of tall 300 old year trees. That will surely vanish lingam, with disturb the ecology & whole environment badly permanently. It is opined that knowing well these alarms raised by state forest department & other great environmentalists too, Sinha wanted 5,00,000 RSS & VHP men, after getting commando & military training to visit there as pilgrims & settle down permanently as they will have arms & ammunitions as given to members of village defence committees in Doda & Kishtwar & none will be able to expell them. They will attack on Muslims of neighbouring villages & make them on the run or killed. This will result permanent change in demography of state as desired by all rightist groups, facscist & communal parties.Thats why state assembly was totally bypassed & governor himself made the shrine board, he himself become its chairman & made Arun Kumar its chief executive officer who later wrote a letter to Sonali Kumar, a secretary & his wife for land transfer to the board bypassing constitution, environmental okay & state assembly too. The board acts as extraconstitutional authorty, not answerable to state government. Whole Indian Constitution is not applicable on J&K. In other states where whole Indian Constitution is applicable too, no new such authority is created DICTATORIALLY by governor, not answerable to state govt & that too is having all OUTSIDERS. Actually Sinha was appointed by BJP, a selected highly anti-Muslim communal who acted violating constitution in many other state matters earlier including university related matters too. Thats why after this GREAT SCANDAL coming to light, communal agitations in Jammu along with economic blockade for valley of 98 % Muslims ran so fast so long by secret planning & order of governor himself with full support of Sangh Parivar, BJP, Shiv Sena etc too. It is so simple to understand that in Kashmir every area at 14000 feet altitude gets freezing at least 25 feet thich snow. If thick jungle of 200 feet tall trees there it will have 200+25 =225 feet snow but if the jungle is cut to make houses, 200 feet thick snow covering trees will be lost & heating in the houses will reduce them further. This has been overlooked deliberately b coz purpose is something else not facilities for pilgrims of Yatra. For that very purpose the governor arbitrarily increased the duration of Yatra to 2 months from one month, & proposed to hold yatra for whole year too. If this is not the real story, what is the real one ? Valley people know the valley very well & are not able to digest any other theory as leaks of intelligence details tell above story. Will they survive there even for a week ? Shouldnt Shrine Board be abolished forever as the best possible solution ? Only knowledgeable persons need answer not creating fuss. I dont care scoring points. There are so many good persons who provide so much balanced answer so sweetly & nicely that it is amazing. Ive learnt so many new things from extremely good peole of all communities on Y/A. Harsh people learn lessons from them. By the way, on NDTVs Muqaabla , IBN 7 only 2 days back & on Talking Point on BBC yesterday, it has been cleared beyond beyond question that it was a deep rooted conspiracy for years & Arun Kumar cleared that the SASB was to get land on permanent basis, accomplished in surreptitious manner, violating constitution.
