If i get accepted to USC as a transfer student for next fall, ill need to apply for financial aid. without scholarships, how much do you think it will cover? my grades are pretty good: all As and one B. my parents said they can only afford to pay 20 of the $50,000 tuition(that includes room/board, books, food, and other fees). so that means i need financial aid to cover the other $30,000. is that possible? my parents dont make too much money, and i have a job, but its an internship, so i dont get paid. so if i apply for financial aid and fafsa, how much do you think it will cover?? thanks!
Answer: It is impossible without more information to know how much financial aid you will get that is need based from both the federal government and the college itself. It is based on your parents' income along with your income. So, it becomes important to apply for scholarships and grants.
I recommend still applying at FAFSA.ed.gov because it can help you tap into need based financial aid at USC and the federal government.
Second, apply for state college grants. I have included a link to their website. Also, it can help you into work study employment on campus.
Third, if there are college's that offer merrit scholarships if your grades are kept above a certain point. I could not tell if USC was one of them though.
Fourth, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for scholarships based on your college major and religion. Sometimes, you can locate scholarships based on this.
Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Work hard on the essays and have someone proofread them before sending them. Even the smallest scholarship means one less loan to repay. Also, there are some that are not income based scholarships.

I LOVE to read, and my dream job would be one where I am paid to read books to give my opinion of them. Do those sorts of jobs exist? Answer: There are a lot of web sites and publications that hire book reviewers--you would read whatever books they send you, then write a review of them to be published. Reviewers don't get paid a lot, though.
Look around on the Web for sites that focus on the kinds of books you like to read, and see if any of them tell you how to become a reviewer.
Some literary agents have readers who read submissions and write up their opinions of them. In many instances, these are interns (unpaid), but some do pay a little bit. The problem with this is that you have to be local--most of the lit. agents in the US are concentrated in New York, with some in Boston, Chicago, and LA. If you're not in one of those places, you're out of luck.
Other than being an acquiring editor at a publisher (a job it takes a long time to work up to), I can't think of any reading jobs that pay enough to live on. And an editor does a lot more than read, as any editor in a publishing company will tell you. There are sales & marketing issues, budgeting, etc.
I don't know how old you are, but if you do want to get into publishing, focus on being wide-read, well informed, open minded, etc. You don't have to be an English major in college, but you should look for an internship with a publisher or agent, possibly more than one internship over a couple years. Some schools (Columbia in New York and Emerson College in Boston) have publishing programs. These are really helpful. It's a very competitive field.

I am a multi-tasking queen at work. Just some of my duties include: entering purchase orders for all retail stores in chain, create the corporate newsletter, designing merchandising signs for all stores, dealing with in-house, and warranty repairs. These are only the highlights. It is kind of vague, but I do feel odd posting something pertaining to my place of employment on-line.
Answer: You know, a lot depends on the type of business you are working for and the area of the country.
If you were with a large chain you are probably being overworked and underpaid. If you are with a local company (it doesn't take a lot to become a corporation) you may be the person keeping their heads above water.
If you are young, I would suggest you stick it out and start sniffing around for someone who might pay you your worth. Also, if this is what you want to do for a living you may want to train in something specific like: accounting, office management, or project management.
There's a lot of opportunities out there looking to be found.
You should really be getting paid $10 hr on the low side $25 hr on the high.

So I went to LensCrafters for a contacts eye exam and they told me that my eye was red and swollen and to come back in a few weeks and they could finish the exam. They said I was marked down for a glasses exam originally so he didnt write down the other numbers. NOT my fault so why should I pay for it?
Anyone have advise, they said a supervisor would call me back but that was an hr ago.
My problem was I paid for the entire contacts exam and then at the end they said they couldnt finish the fititing and suggested I get glasses in the mean time till I could come back. They did everything knowing I only wanted contacts, when I called they told me it was wrote down as an eye glasses exam not contacts so they could not give me the perscription to finish the "fitting" anywhere else and that I would have to do it all over again!
Either way, I went to another store and they pulled the records from that store and I finished and they only charged me $30. and said they didnt know why the other one told me it would be another $80. They got me a better deal on how much my contacts cost AND took back the stupid glasses and refunded me the full cost.
Answer: That's pretty poor service. Usually most places will just book you back in to finish the exam - but you won't have to pay again.

This is unbelievable. I am a really great sales person. The owner changed my commission structure so its more difficult for me to make money.He took 4 accounts away from me that equaled 6k, about $360 in commission. Once the opening order is done I can "service" them again (thanx-no money in that). He changed my commission April 5th. So I understood I needed to make 20k in sales before I saw any commission. BUT HE MADE IT retroactive to March 1st when I had no idea of the change of commission at all. He just decided to keep Marchs commission from me.All of the accounts I am interested in opening are either "house" or already taken by another rep. I am continually harassed and embarrassed by one of the girls who call me rude in front of others. I have all this documented.I have to leave there. I will have a breakdown. I already am prone to anxiety. If I were to claim this to Div. of Unemployment how could that work since one must be willing and able to work to get unemployment?
Answer: You are correct that if you are unable to work they can deny benefit payments to you. Try filing for unemployment and see what happens. I don't know what state you are in but some have disability if you are not able to work. You could file for that instead if your state offers that. But in some states you can be denied unemployment benefits for quitting a job, no matter the reason.

Answer: Friday is a bank holiday, so no one will be getting paid on Friday.
Your payday will depend on company policy. Check your employee manual. The payday will either be Thursday or Monday following the holiday. The employer is allowed to delay a payday to the next business day (Monday in the case of a Friday holiday) when it falls on a holiday.

I was in a car wreck in october of 2009. i was completely stopped and was rearended by a bigger vehicle then mine..i drive an alitima and he drove a ford explorer sport. i remember having my head jerked forward my hair flew. i was looking at my friend next to me and laughing (i was in the driver seat) when i got hit. my bumper does have a hole torn into it and there are marks from his bumper. i started seeking treatment. i went to a chiropractor whom did absolutely nothing. we got xrays and mris but all i really got from him were ultrasounds and accupunctures (for what i have no clue) it helped ease a little but really he was doing nothing for my pain. so i started going to have physical therapy which helped wonders. i loved it! and now and basically better from that. the thing is..we found out in the xrays that i have mild mild mild scoliosis. and the insurance company wont pay all of the amount because they are saying it took me so long to recover bc of my scoliosis. thats not true tho because number one: i didnt know i had scoliosis because it wasnt acting up. it didnt hurt or cause any types of pain. i was in no pain until i got hit. number two: it took longer for me to heal than the normal 2 months because my chiropractor wasnt doing anything hands on to help my muscles heal. we really need all of the bills payed but idk how to prove to them that its not about my scoliosis at all. i barely even have it! what do i do? please help
Answer: Just because you didn't know you had it, doesn't mean it didn't affect your recovery.
You can consider filing the medical claims under YOUR auto insurance policy - the car you were in.
But you "prove" that your scoliosis didn't affect your healing, by getting some doctors to say, in writing, that it didn't.

Should I pay OR Should I not pay??? Read!?
I had a funny encounter today, and I am asking for your opinion on which way to handle the situation.
A few months ago, I went to see a Spanish tutor at her apartment for what I intended an hour long session. Despite the fact that I had to wait around for 30 minutes watching her cook and eat during our scheduled appointment time, I took her to a nearby Chiles to have our tutoring session there.
Right away I felt it was a waste of my time. I am paying the student teacher/tutor at my university $25/hour and she kept giving me SOO many stupid examples of every single topic....to make make me stay longer = make her pay more.
SO, when it was over and hour and a HALF later, we didnt really get very far and I told her that maybe in two weeks I may see her again. I paid her $25 and told her I would give her the $12.50 next time.
I never talked to her again. It was a waste of money.
Then, I saw her today on the bus. She smiled and said "hi" and asked how Spanish was going. Then she wiped the smile off her face and rudely said, "Oh, and you know you owe me $12." Shocked, I acted retarded and said I forgot (I play dumb well though) and she says, "well, you know you are going to pay me right?" (nodding her head with a brief smirk).
I got PISSED off!! Im like, and your a student teacher!! It was like a threat. I replied seemingly sincere, "Well how should I give you the money?" She states bluntly, "I dont know" and shrugs her shoulders.
When she finally gets of the fng bus, she turns and smiles saying bye to me. Of course she would because she wants her money!
What would you do?!?!?!

No, we both had drinks at Chiles and the staff let us have them free. I figure I might as well pay (I dont know her full address though, the apartment number) but since she is a "student teacher" at a huge university, I dont want this to become some huge case if she brings the school into it.

Answer: I'd remind her of the 30 minutes she spent cooking and eating before she got to your lesson. I think that pays for itself.
