Do Jehovahs Witnesses celebrate the mid-autumn/mooncake festival?

I do not know any JWs that are from countries that participate in this festival and I am not sure of the origin of the tradition, and so I am wondering if it has a religious or pagan background, and whether Jehovahs Witnesses take part in the celebration or abstain from it?
Answer: There is only ONE event they remember once a year and that is the memorial of Christ's death. This is the only event that Christ himself said to remember. Luke 22:19 (ISV): "Keep on doing this in memory of me." Paul later confirmed this in 1 Cor 10:16. We don't partake in celebrations such as Christmas, Easter, Birthdays as they all have pagan roots. They adhere to the principle found in 2 Cor 6:14 (NIV) For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common?

Celebrate the harvest moon at the Mid-Autumn Festival.

I need information about the Chinese Lunar festival sometimes referred to as mooncake day?

Any information would be helpful, but it does not need to be very long a simple summary would be better. Help ful facts would be -its purpose --how people celebrate it commonly -when it occurs in terms of solar calendar or something easily interpreted. EX: it is the first full moon of august(probably wrong) -why its important to the chinese. But any info is helpful. Thanks.
Answer: Its purpose is to celebrate the full moon of the harvest season. Everyone gets together on the same day and it is the day when Chinese outside of the country are most expected to come home for the holidays. People commonly celebrate it by eating moon cakes, which are round to celebrate the completeness of everyone being together and the moon. They go outside and look at the moon if it is a clear night. It occurs based on the lunar calendar. It is mainly important because of the harvest.

Questions on Chinese Lunar Festival (Mooncake Day)?

It is coming up on Sept. 22, 2010. I got a few questions. Why do people celebrate it? How do people celebrate it? When do people celebrate it? (not just the date listed above) Whats the origin of the festival and folktales of this event? Whats the symbolic meaning of the moons roundness? What is one Western event closely related to this?
Answer: The Moon Festival is a harvest festival. To labor in the fields and bring in a great harvest before the chill of winter. Folk lore has it; Siang-oh was a beautiful servant girl of the Jade Emperor in the Heavenly Palace. When she broke the emperor's beloved porcelain jar, she was banished to earth to be a daughter of a poor farming family. She eventually married a young hunter, an exert archer called Hou Yi. One day 10 suns rose together in the sky, The heat they made was destroying the earth. Hou Yi was recruited by the Heavenly Gods to rescue the planet. He successfully shot down nine suns, leaving one for earth's nourishment and warmth. Hou Yi was given an elixir of immortality. Shiang-ho found the elixir and drank it. She grew weightless and rose upwards. Hou Yi desperately tried to reach her, but Shiang-ho continued to float towards the moon which she landed upon. There she coughed up the luminescent elixir. The magic elixir instantly transformed into a rabbit as jade-white as the moon. This was the birth of the White Rabbit also known as the Moon Hare or Jade Rabbit, Shiang-ho's constant companion on the moon. To this day, it's said, the White Rabbit dwells in a forest of cassia trees, pounding cloves and cinnamon with a mortar and pestle in the vain attempt to re-create the elixir of immortality. Resolved to accept his wife's new found status as the Moon Goddess, Hou Yi had the Moon Palace built for her among a grove of cinnamon trees. The memorial shimmers with brilliance in the night sky. Now and forever, the heavens permit the Divine Archer and Shiang-ho to reunite there once a month on the full moon, the fifteenth day of each lunar month. ____ Moon cakes symbolize the heavenly blessings of longevity and good health. During the Moon Festival, round moon cakes are imprinted with floral designs or classic folk tale figures, such as the Moon Goddess and the Jade Rabbit, from special wooden molds. Known as "yuet beng" om Cantonese, moon cakes are ideal gifts for family and friends. By late August, cakes in decorative boxes dominate the selves of Chinese bakeries and Asian food stores. Varieties are just as numerous; sweet bean paste, lotus seed paste, sugared melon, dried fruit, and seed and nut. The center can be filled with a whole duck egg yolk in single, double and even triple versions, which are considered extra lucky. The yolk symbolizes the moon, and the egg's saltiness intermingles with the flavor of the sweet bean paste. The Empress Dowager Ci Xi of the Qing dynasty (1644-1911) established the thirteenth to the seventeenth days of the eight month as the official time to celebrate and fully appreciate the mid-autumn harvest moon. Most families today select one night during the full-moon period to dine and to moon-gaze.

Now is mooncake festival so anyone can tell me the mooncake story? Why we call it mooncake?

Answer: The Moon Festival The moon festival is a different way to celebrate the Mid-Autumn harvest moon Chinese history. Overrun by the Mongols in the thirteenth century, the Chinese threw off their oppressors in 1368 AD. It is said that mooncakes - which the Mongols did not eat - were the perfect vehicle for hiding and passing along plans for the rebellion. Families were instructed not to eat the mooncakes until the day of the moon festival, which is when the rebellion took place Filling: 1 pound red azuki beans water 3/4 cup lard or oil 1-3/4 cups sugar Water-Shortening Dough: 2 cups flour 5 tablespoons lard 10 tablespoons water 1/4 teaspoon salt Flaky Dough: 1 cup flour 5 tablespoons lard red food coloring for design PREPARATION: Filling Instructions: Soak red beans in water to cover 2 hours. Drain and discard the water. Cover with 8 cups fresh water and bring to a boil, then simmer over low heat 1-1/2 hours or until skins open. Strain the beans and discard the skins. Place the strained beans in several layers of cheesecloth and squeeze out any excess water. Place in a saucepan with the lard or oil and the sugar. Cook, stirring continuously, until almost all the moisture has evaporated. Let cool. Dough Instructions: You will need 2 cups of filling for the mooncakes. Divide this into 20 portions and shape into balls.Mix ingredients for the water-shortening dough and the flaky dough separately until smooth. Divide each dough into 20 equal portions. Wrap one portion of flaky dough inside each portion of water-shortening dough. Roll out each piece of dough, then fold in thirds to form three layers. Roll out again, and once more fold in thirds to form three layers. Flatten each piece of dough with the palm of your hand to form a 3" circle. Place one portion of filling in the center. Gather the edges to enclose the filling and pinch to seal. Place the filled packet in the mold, gently pressing to fit. Invert and remove the mold. Dilute red food coloring with water and pour onto a damp paper towel on a plate. Take some food coloring onto the cookie-design stamp, then press on top of the mooncake. Repeat process for remaining mooncakes. Arrange mooncakes on a baking sheet. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool before serving.

mooncake festival...?

only answer if you know what mooncakes are and what im talking about. so the Mooncake festival is around the corner like in 2 weeks. like most families, my family gives a lot of boxes of mooncakes to each other. except for the egg yolk in the center, those things are pretty darn tasty. and now they even have new ones with different skins and fillings. i want to try them all. in the past years i was young and didnt need to care about gaining weight so i ate however much i wanted and anytime i wanted. i started dieting and counting calories last new year. those things are reportedly 1000 calories each. how do i cope with them this year? ive been dieting really well and running a lot on my treadmill. is it okay if i go on a few weeks hiatus on dieting? and duing that time, enjoy all the mooncakes i want? then after september ill go back to dieting and exercising. will i gain a lot of pounds from this hiatus?
Answer: You are not supposed to eat the whole moon cake, you are supposed to eat 1/4 of it per serving at most. If you want to eat all the moon cakes that you want then go back on dieting then it is up to you. I prefer to eat in moderation and exercise regularly, constant crash diets and pressure to loose weight in such a short period of time is not my style!
