What are the requirements needed to be able to rent a room in Singapore?
I hold a Philippine passport and Ill be looking for work in Sg this July. Am planning to stay in a hostel first.
Answer: HI,
Well, the landlord will want to see you have a valid visa for the duration of your stay.
If you get a work permit, then he will need a copy of that and your passport as well. It is difficult to fool the landlords now a days as they can verify your work permit status on the internet.

Where can i find room for rent in Singapore?
I will be going to Singapore on October 12 2010 and I dont prefer to stay in a hotel because its a lot expensive. I am from the Philippines. I really need a room for rent. Thanks in advance for your help :)
Answer: Staying in hotel is really expensive while waiting the job interview. The affordable thing is to rent a room monthly as you can save more money. Even better is you can share a room with friends. I have used this website a few times to find a roommate / share a room for better money value.

For everything else, the agent may charge you half month agent fee as their service. It's common in Singapore if you find a room with agent help.

Im planning a vacation with a friend. Where can I find the cheapest room to rent in Singapore city?
I am from the Philippines. My friend and I wanted to explore Singapore. We are not rich people that is why we do not want to spend much during our stay in Singapore. We are planning to stay there for not more than 30 days.
I hope you guys could help me with this, especially people from Singapore.
PS: I preferrably want to stay at the heart of the city, if possible.
Thank you very much
Answer: I have seen & check for friends from Philippines to stay in S'pore at the cheapest cost of $16/- per person/ day (room for 4-6) aircon at shop/flat near Kallang MRT(train) Station. In Chinatown, there are flat/room at $35-50 per day for 2. The Hotel 81(all over S'pore) has room from $60-80 per day for twin. Normal hotel room is currently above $130/-.

Singapore - Which is cheaper - rent a room or buy a house?
I am singaporean
What are the requirements do i have to pay if i rent a one room in singapore for one month? Do i have to pay bills? Or just pay the monthly rent only?
If i buy a house - How much is the price for 3 room flat? How much do i have to pay the light bills, current bills and all the bills for one month?
Compare which is cheaper, rent room or buy a house?
Answer: Usually if you rent, you're responsible for your own bills (electricity/water, cable TV, Internet, home phone etc).
You didn't mention if you intend to apply for a new flat or buy a resale flat, and which neighbourhoods you are looking at. Even which storey the flat is on has an impact on the price.
3-room RESALE flats are generally in the $200,000 - $300,000 range. (Brand new flats from HDB are cheaper.) Some far flung areas may be cheaper than this, while some prime areas may cost more.
Anyway, you should visit HDB's website for information, such as eligibility rules, previous resale transaction prices, and available new flats:

I would like to rent a room in Singapore. Ive never rented before.?
I would like to rent a room in Singapore. Ive never rented before. First time renting.
Can anyone advise what I should look out for?
ps Im a single female.
Im a Singapore citizen. Due to lots of issues at home, intend to move out.
Ive never rented any before so seeking some neutral advise as agents tend to be more profit based.
Answer: There are two way you can to do it. First lookout for advertisment in the paper for room for rent, if the owner advertise themself you do all paperwork and searches. If the advert is by an agent tell him or her that you like to represent yourself it this way you do not pay commission.
Second call an agent tell them what you want and they will arrange some suitable unit for you to view but you need to pay a commission to them because they will represent you in nego with the owner and also the paper work. You need only pay 1/2 month or one month commission depend on terms of rental. FYI not all agents are profit based. Good Luck.

Where to rent a room in Singapore?
I NEED HELP PLEASSSEEE!!! I will be going in Singapore on October, I already have a ticket but I still dont have a place to stay in. I am a tourist. I prefer to rent a room than to go to a hotel because it is much cheaper. I am planning to stay for one month if the immigration will grant me. My problem is most of the rooms in Singapore wont allow a short term rental. Most of them requires 6mos to 1year rental. I have been looking through the internet but to no avail. Where can I find a decent place that would allow me to stay for one month or less? Please I am desperate. Thanks in advance for the help.
Answer: I'd suggest putting an ad on a classifieds website like craigslist that outlines what you are looking for and your budget. Technically, you cannot be rented a private room in Singapore unless you are here on a long-term visa, but some people might be willing to bend the rules.

Urgent! I need to rent a room in Singapore by tomorrow, but how?
Ive been sent by my company to Singapore to work for 2 months, and while Im really excited about going, I have nowhere to stay! and I have to leave tomorrow! You can probably tell that Im going half crazy. My companys given a really short notice and a maximum budget of 800 SGD per month to rent a room. I dont know what to do! All the sites (like easyroommate.com) require some sort of registration and money to actually contact anybody, and I dont want to do that.
Can somebody give me any advice on the best way to rent a room for 2 months?
Would checking the local newspapers be a better choice? Which newspapers do you recommend?
Id like to actually be able to contact the people, rather than pay any extra fees, because 800 is actually stretching it.
Answer: 800 would be really stretching as your requirement is short term stay.
You can look in to adpost.com.sg or straittimes. classifieds or mocca
For 800 or less you can typically get a room in a HDB or Private apartment (sub urbs) and you can try posting/requesting agents in above websites.
For a start you can rent a serviced apartment (google for it) for a week or stay @ budget hotel.
