I am going to be in Angkor Wat, Cambodia in early December and then I am going to be go to Koh Samui, Thailand. I would like get there as quickly as possible while spending the least money. Suggestions?

Two reliable trains a day run from Aranyaprathet to Bangkok. You should be able to make the 13:55 departure from Aranyaprathet, arriving Bangkok at 19:55. If not, the other train leaves Aranyaprathet at 06:40, arriving Bangkok at 12:05. Both trains are 3rd class only, but they are clean and it's a very pleasant ride. The fare is 58 baht (80p/$1.50).
Then bus or train it down to Surat Thani and ferry it over to Koh Samui.

I have plans of going there hopefully within the year.
Answer: As far as weather, Nov.-Feb. would be the coolest and driest months, but is considered high season for tourists in most of Southeast Asia. I live in Thailand which has similar weather to neighboring Cambodia and Mar.-May is unbearably hot. Apr.-Oct. is considered low season for tourists, but June-Oct. can be quite rainy and very humid. So basically you can have more crowds and cooler weather or less crowds and very hot, rainy or humid weather. Take your pick.

I have been researching this but can only find options where you get a train/bus then a taxi/bus once across the border.

from manila we booked a flight to ho chi minh (saigon) due to arrive at around one in the morning of sunday. the return flight is wednesday midnight. i wanted to see the the angkor wat also in cambodia. is there enough time? are there night buses from saigon to phnom penh or siem reap? im travelling first week of may and i really need to get an idea of our itinerary. thanks!

there is really not much of special interest in sai gon, and you only need 2 days in angkor..a day to prepair and a day to visit the "wats"..certainly you wont see everything ..but if you up and out early [4am like everyone else with a good tuc tuc driver] you will be "tempeled out " by 2 pm.. the flt between sai gon and siem reap is about an hour.. just have all your papers in order..and dont spend much time in sai gon..do your research 1st and have your days planned ahead of time...

Answer: I've been there! Unfortunately, most of the Wat has been ruined due to tourism. Most that i've seen represent lots of war and kings. Like the monkey mask... if you do go to angkor wat, don't miss out on going to this beautiful tourism place called the siem reap sanctuary or something (just check to be sure). They have lots of shows and acts that show off the cambodian culture and it's history. There was this wonderful act i saw there involving angkor wat history, you have to see it, it beautiful.
Here some advice though, if you happen to be Asian. When you go to Ankgor Wat, they'll ask you if you're cambodian, if you don't wanna get charged $20US, answer in cambodian. :D AND TAKE HEAPS OF WATER.

Answer: I believe some of the temples have partial activities. In the Angkor Watt some Buddhist monks light incense for example. It's not the same religion that was practiced during the Khmer empire, which at different times practiced both Buddhism and Hinduism. But I don't think most of the temples are active today,

Completely stuck. I cannot figure out how to kill the Anaconda (in Angkor Wat) and the Knight (in Bavaria). And in the 10th stage of siberia, I get stuck at the end with the boulders and cannot make my way out to the exit.

What is about the Interesting Angkor Wat?
I am doing a project on the angkor wat and was wondering where do I start? Any suggestions? Do I talk about how it was built, the king? collapse?
Answer: To me the fascinating thing is how it was abandoned and lost for centuries (at least to the outside world) and then found accidentally in the 19th century by Henri Mouhot, a French explorer who died before he returned to Europe, but his travel notes and his drawings were published, sparking an interest in the site that continues to this day.
There's a lot of information on line about its history and architecture, but to me the wonder is how it survived through wars and jungle overgrowth and then was found and now lives again. The only thing comparable in our hemisphere is Machu Picchu, which is a marvel, but falls far short of Angkor Wat.

Answer: You can come to travel agents to book guides and transportation. Or you can find guides around the ticket check point of Angkor. Guides must have license. The price depends on the group of you. Normally, on Dec, means high season : English speaking guide: 30 USD/day for group 1-5 pax. German speaking guide: 50 USD/day, Spanish: 50 USD/day. If your group is less than 4 persons, you can hire a tuk tuk ( which can port 4 pax) with 10 USD/day ( you have to bargain as they will tell you 15 USD/ day). we are planning to visit angkor wat in around december or possibly early january and am just wondering what it is like weather-wise and landscape wise to visit. as its winter there (i think), will it look less green and more bland, dry etc... or will it look lush, green, jungly, wet and damp, exotic etc...

We used a van to go to Angkor Wat. Its not to hard, but it is hard.
But you know what, its really worth it.
Its such an amazing place to see and its massive!
We went in Dec and its not dry/bland.
During sunset its so pretty!
Its green, jungly, really hot! but it gets windy at night so its nice.
Its the most beautiful thing i've seen so far, you have to see it!

Going to Cambodia to see Angkor Wat in August! Is it worth while to also go visit Phnom Penh as well?
We only have 5-6 days so were planning on flying into Siem Reap to explore and see Angkor Wat. How much time do we need here and would it also be worth our while to take an extra flight down to Phnom Penh to visit as well? Can anyone recommend some good safe and clean accomodations? Also, should we join tour groups in Siem Reap or is it safe to just explore on our own? Thanks!
