hello pple, what do you think of my poem? Its entitled Your Body(Singapores national museum), My Body?
its for undergrad creative writing class, here it is>>
Wanton
lace of Sarong Kebayas hung limp.
Silent
bold prints of the 80’s stared blankly.
A fleeting glance at the Cheong Sam
captured the faint stir
of a gold-glided dragon.
Disembodied voices
now floated down the faint-lit alley.
Trailing them
led to strangers in white.
I blinked – wasn’t that MM Lee?
Treading lightly ahead,
shadows
of reels and ashen ticket stubs
darkened the tomb’s floor.
Lido…Eng Wah in the ‘70s?
A spark lit up
the recesses of my mind.
These walls loom over me
no more.
In freedom,
the street hawker fare
of Char Kway Teow and Katong Laksa
glistens and tantalizes.
Children of faded photos
sprang to life
and danced with me.
You and I
live for the moment.
But even stillness settles once more
I know we will meet again.
Answer: I like this very much....I'm puzzled by the title, though...is there a museum in Singapore called 'Your Body'?
Quite a lot of the references meant nothing to me MM Lee/Eng Wah and Char Kway Teow and Katong Laksa...but, that didn't prevent me from enjoying the imagery...in fact I think that added to it..giving me a taste of some-where new.
I like the care you have taken with the placing of your sentences, adding extra nuances and emphasising words.

Which location in Singapore is better to stay in during my vacation?
Ive got three choices only because thats where three hostels are at:-
1) Costa Sands Resort (Downtown East)
2) Costa Sands Resort (Pasir Ris)
3) Mount Emily (Upper Wilkie Road)
I will be attending a conference at the National Museum of Singapore. Then at night I want to enjoy the city and maybe do some window shopping and enjoy the city and plenty of food. Which locations should I stay?
I dont want to rely too much on taxi, I would rather walk and see the city on foot.

Mount Emily will be good as it is near to town. Forget about Downtown East and Pasir Ris!! That's too far.

I will be vacationing in Singapore late summer this year on a very tight budget! Any SUGGESTIONS?
Can anyone out there recommend free things to see and do, ie) free museums, historical places/parks? Is Singapore a fairly expensive city? Is the city smoker friendly? (I wont be arrested for smoking in public would I?)

As for smoking, you'll have to take note that you can't smoke in any air-conditioned location (I think some pubs, discos may be exempt though). It's also banned in lift's, queues etc, basically places where it's likely to annoy non-smokers. Other then that there are no issues with smoking on the street/public. Just take note where you drop the cigarette butts, it's a S$500 fine in most places for littering (assuming you get caught of course). The other thing to take note about smoking, a hardpack (I think 20 sticks?) costs about S$10 and you're only allwoed to bring 1 opened pack through customs. There are no duty free allowances for cigarettes/cigars and the penalty if caught is pretty high.

What should I do in Singapore this month?
I got an offer to visit my cousin in Singapore (he lives there for business) this month, so I havent really had time to prepare. Whats there to do in Singapore? I will definitely be dining and shopping, so could you give me some good tips as to where I might get good deals or interesting finds? I really will enjoy anything.
I love museums, history and seeing temples. Are there any really good colonial museums?

Lots really. If you're pricey you can try Ion, Takashimaya, anything along Orchard Road. For good deals go to Bugis Street.
Visit Sentosa, try all the attractions there.
Definiely go to Clarke Quay. Good nightlife dining too.

The place is between city hall and bugis MRT station. You can alight at city hall and walk. The museum is located behind the Raffles Hotel and it's among the shophouses.

Who was the architect of Singapore National Theatre?

The theatre, with a capacity of 3,420 seats, was officially opened on 8 August 1963 to commemorate Singapores self-government and was the first and largest national theatre in Singapore back then.[1] It was the venue for various international performances, universities convocations and the National Day rallies until it was demolished in mid-1986.
