I am from Singapore, and I intend to make my way to Miami in April 2012 for Wrestlemania 28. This is my 6th week anniversary taking skating lessons and my coach says that Im talented and can get the elements pretty well in one lesson. I take private lessons half an hour a week. Im currently at Gamma level learning my Mohawk and she says Im progressing really fast. Its the holidays now so Im skating a lot. Like 3-5 hours a day every day. But on normal school days i skate around 2-3 hours twice on weekdays and 5 hours each on Saturdays and Sundays. Im really interested in skating and Im 13. I know i started really late and all the good skaters at my rink are like 5? And i know Im no Johnny Weir but i want to know how long does it take to get to freestyle 8? Because thats the highest level in my country (Singapore) so far due to the lack of an Olympic size rink (but there will be one in 2012). Or at least how long it takes to get to competitive level? There arent any beginner competitions at the rink and there arent any test either because we arent registered with the ISI. Thanks so much! im really really curious.
Answer: Meh. I'm considered "talented" too. The word doesn't really mean much. I got an hour of ice time a week and was in FS 5 within seven months. That's probably about where you'll be in seven-ish months. FS 8 might take awhile to get to, especially because you have to get your axel and a few doubles, not to mention a lot of spins before then. Those skills aren't necessarily hard, they just take a lot of practice to get solid and aesthetically pleasing. I'd say a year, year and a half. Good luck!

Around the world holiday help!!?

Hi, Im planning an around the world holiday at the end of 2011 / 2012 for approx 1 month for my bf and myself. We plan on going to: LA, Las Vegas, NY, London, Paris, Rome (other places in Europe via train/bus etc) Singapore then home to Aus. We have a rough quote for flights for $3,000 plus taxes. What we were wondering is, what do you think we will need to save for this holiday. We want to stay in clean and tidy accom, no where upmarket or really expensive, because we really want to have more money to spend on things to do. ie, helicopter flight over the grand canyon, etc. We have budgeted to save $10,000 for each of us... So do you think this will be enough to cover accom and things to do? Also, if anyone had any tips or ideas on how to save money while overseas, that would also be great!!! Thanks :)
Answer: Depending on when you are going, this itinerary can cost anywhere from $4000-$5000 per person. My systems came up with this quote for dates in August-September. If you go in the summertime around June-July be prepared for the flights to cost more as it is the peak vacation travel season. You can definitely travel this itinerary on 10K if you stay within the outskirts of the tourist areas (albeit very clean and tidy and accessible to the city central areas by metro) so you can spend on activities, food, and fun. Try to book hotels which offer daily breakfast included in the rate, and plan your transportation if possible (shared airport service included round-trip from the airport).
