Windows Vista mouse pointer is unstable -- please HELP me...
I recently bought an Aspire 5520 laptop for the knock-down price of only £349.99 from a reputable retail outlet. This machine runs Windows Vista Home Premium. The hardware includes 3 Gbytes of RAM (more than enough!), a 160 Gbyte hard drive, an inbuilt Crystal Eye Webcam (which has great resolution), a memory card reader (which I use), a CD/DVD r/w reader and writer, and a touchpad. I bought a standard optical mouse for a few pounds and installed this without problems (Vista did NOT ask for driver software for the mouse). Since buying and installing the mouse, I have been confronted with a slow but steady degeneration of the stability of the mouse pointer, which sometimes jumps all over the screen and forces me to do a graceless physical shutdown. The problem is driving me crazy -- nothing that I do seems to resolve this issue. If anybody has any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue, I would be extremely grateful. I have downloaded all of the Microsoft updates and patches that have released since the machine was purchased, and I am running out of optisons. Sometimes the problem is so severe that the pointer literally jumps around at random, opening and shutting down software without even a single left click from me (it often opens software just by hovering over the icon on the desktop or on the toolbar). PLEASE -- if anybody can suggest a solution (perhaps somebody can point me to a fresh driver download page), I would be most grateful to that person.
I am at the end of my tether. I verified that the problem is not hardware-related by using another mouse (in both cases, I used optical mice) -- the problem is definitely a software problem and I am now at the end of my rope.
I look forward to suggestions....
Thank you in advance,
PHILIP
Answer: Whilst your using the external mouse, have you disabled the touch pad? Because in effect you have two mice running at the same time and computers/laptops don't like that!

Features of the Safewatch® Pro 3000 package:
Safewatch Pro Control Panel
Safewatch Pro Touchpad
4 Door/Window Contacts
Interior Sounder
Motion Sensor
Smoke/Heat or Carbon Monoxide Detector
Telephone Connection
Battery Back–up and Power Supply
Yard Sign and Window Decals
Member Benefits:

10% Off Add–ons. Save 10% off standard
Answer: well i don't know the layout of your residence - but you need to monitor every first floor opening (doors and windows) AND any opening on any other floor accessible without the use of a ladder longer then 8 feet or so. I doubt 4 contacts will do that in any residence (i could be wrong - it depends on your situation) - i think that's where the 'add-ons' comes in.
I would go with ADT - they usually have the top of the line hardware and their monitoring is top-notch.
I had several estimates when getting my system installed - no one offered the hardware free - if they do offer it free - it probably comes with a clause that you have to go with their monitoring for so many years and it will probably be more expensive in the long run considering all of the discounts you're getting

Answer: For the price it seems ok. I have had problems with the 2 acer laptops I have owned and the support is basically non existent. It will be good for general use (Word Processing, Internet, Music, Video, etc.), you will be able to play older games but it will not handle newer titles due to the weak video card. Should run reasonably fast. If you acutally want good quality and support I would look at Toshiba, Dell, Sony, Panasonic, or IBM. I will never buy a cheap laptop again.
If you want to play newer games look for a laptop with a discrete video card with 512MB of video ram.

Answer: Hello!
Have a look on the events [both System and Applications] which actually happen as your pc performs its boot and startup. You might find some more indications. There might be unwanted processes loading in the background.
Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer.
Another good tool to show and control performance is "Process Explorer" from Sysinternals [Russinovich], still free on MS website at:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/processexplorer.mspx
Unless you have some strange settings under Network Connections. Mobile phone software sometimes mess those up by adding their own connection and setting that as default.

Answer: To be brutally honest - I think it is a pretty cheaply made laptop. You should really consider looking at a computer with a dual or quad core processor instead of a single core and getting at least 4GB of RAM. This computer will work, but I don't see it lasting all that long.

Answer: Hmmm, looking at its specs, your computer doesn't seem so bad.
The only thing I'm not liking is the processor, and the graphics card.
The graphics card won't let you do so much modern gaming these days, however, if you're not a gamer, then that's all good.
Your processor is all right, but it could have been better, however, since it seems to me that you're just going to be a casual online browser, that shouldn't matter either.
All in all, great choice at a very good price.
Hope I helped! =)

Answer: That's fine for web browsing, homework and older games. It borrows memory from your RAM if needed for video, and with 3 GB, you've got enough to spare for your usage needs.
It'll choke on modern 3D games, but it doesn't sound like that's a major problem for you.

Answer: Good Morning. My ID is Ms. Dell. My pleasure to assist you.
Gaming notebook? Hell yeah, we're talking about gaming notebook. Also, NOTEBOOKS ARE INTENDED FOR GAMES JUST AS ANY DESKTOPS.
Tell me which game a Desktop computer plays that cannot be played on a gaming notebook!
The Dell XPS M 1710 is what you should be considering: Best-in-class gaming performance; top-shelf processor and graphics engine; attractive illuminated case; solid multimedia features; full assortment of ports and connections.
Say what you will about market leader Dell (and many have), but with its top-shelf XPS line, the company has consistently put out distinctive laptops that feature the most advanced components on the market. Despite its recent acquisition of niche player Alienware.
Like most of the other models in the XPS and Inspiron lines, the XPS M1710 features Dell's MediaDirect software, which plays CDs and DVDs and lets you access photos and other media files stored on your hard drive without booting up Windows first. The two speakers and the internal subwoofer--a rare feature among laptops--deliver crisp and rich sound. Better yet, because the speakers sit in the corners of the laptop's front edge, your hands won't muffle them while you're typing, and you can play music with the lid closed. Sandwiched between the speakers, a row of seven buttons lets you control disc playback and adjust or mute the volume.
Heck, this notebook supports Blue Ray Disc.
The Ultimate Blu-ray Disc Movie Experience on Your PC
The XPS M1710 with Blu-ray Disc includes the NVIDIA® PureVideoTM HD graphics solution, designed to provide unprecedented picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for movies and video. PureVideo HD includes content protection circuitry (HDCP) for delivering a Blu-ray Disc video experience that can far outstrip the detail of standard DVD movies.
And since you like playing games , you should know that powerful GPU is required. That's right, you get that with a Dell.
true gaming notebook should have one of the most advanced graphics cards on the planet – the NVIDIA® GeForceTM Go 7950 GTX – giving you up to 512MB of dedicated graphics power.
You have a great day now.
