Answer: If you send the sms to a local number in overseas, it will be covered under normal charge. If you send the sms to an overseas number, it would be $0.15 which will not be deductible off the free sms from your bundle if any.

What is the best starhub prepaid service for roaming and for someone in the Philippines?
Im in the Philippines for a 3-month job that has connections with the company that i work with in Singapore. I want to continue using a Singaporean number because for my girlfriend itd be rather expensive to text me if I got a number in the Philippines. SGD 0.50 a text to be exact.
Anyway which prepaid service is best for roaming?
Can I text to Singapore with the same rates as I would in Singapore because we would like to take advantage of using the Web SMS service so she wouldnt have to spend so much. What are the rates and tariffs?

Answer: You are so considerate, wanting to save you girlfriend the S$0.50 per text while you pay more than S$0.50 per text received AND sent.
My experience with WebSMS is that they will charge you according to a normal text rate. e.g. if you are roaming in Philippines and send a WebSMS, it is at the same rate as sending it from your handphone while roaming. So your idea will not save you any money.
But I cannot remember the rates and tariffs anymore.

Mobile Phone charges Calculator
All mobile phone service providers give their customers a choice of several subscription plans. Subscribers pay a standard monthly charge and are given some free minutes of in-coming calls and out-going calls as well as free number of SMSs. Some plans also give free incoming calls. Thereafter, subscribers pay for subsequent calls and SMS made.
Write a C++ OOP program that read, from a text file, the various mobile subscription plans and its charges from the three major providers (Search from the web the plans offered by Singtel, Starhub and M1).
It then prompts the user to enter :
Expected no of minutes of in-coming local calls:
Expected no of minutes of out-going local calls:
Expected no of SMS:
The output should show the charges to pay for each plan. It should also pick the cheapest plan. (Added feature: sort and show the printout in ascending order of cost).
You should use classes and the various features of OOP in your solution.

Answer: Actually prices are quite competitive. Based on your usage pattern (talk time 500-700 outgoing) and sms slightly above 500, the following options are available:
StarHub
Powervalue700 - 700 mins outgoing free, 500 sms/mms free, +100 free sms if u pay by GIRO, per second billing, free voicemail, $81.38
M1
SunTalk 800 - 400 to 800 mins outgoing free (depends on which time of the day u call out), 500 free SMS, free voicemail, $71.40
Notes:
1. All incoming calls free for both M1 and StarHub plans
2. $5.25 monthly fee for caller id applies, free for 1st 3 months
Between the two of them is a difference of $10 in monthly subscriptions, but you have to study which time of the day do u call out? if you talk at any time of the day then best go with StarHub coz the free outgoing calls is really 700 minutes. But if you talk a lot (more than 90%) between 9pm to 9am then go for M1 coz you'll get more free outgoing talk time.
Another thing, StarHub charges per second billing.. so if you talk for 1 minute 1 sec, you pay for 1 minute 1 sec. But with M1 or SingTel you are actually paying for 1 min 30 sec because they charge in blocks of 30 seconds.
Also, StarHub has this offer where if you pay bills by GIRO you get free 100 sms..
I leave it to you to decide. Myself, I am a heavy user, but I call Malaysia a lot. So I take up StarHub's plan which has free calls to selected countries including Malaysia.

Answer: i tink starhub is e best.. if u compare rates, seems dat starhub mre reasonable.. coz count by seconds.. for m1 n singtel, they count by mins.. as for 3g service, if u using starhub, u get 100 mins free for video call with no additional charges.. its a gd bargain.. though its for 6 mths onli.. but its worth e $$$

Any lousy experience with Starhub?
i hv plenty lousy experiences with Starhub. 1) Starhub does not value customers loyalty. I used Starhubs service since 2000 and i was never reward by any extra gift or voucher. i thought it was normal until i discovered that some of my friends got some extra goodies. i called and asked why i didnt hv any and then was treated as a beggar by given 6 mths free CID. I declined the offer anyway. 2) despite disappointment with them, i still bring a friend to sign up maxonline @ Tampines Mall. As my friend required a fixed line so i recommended digital voice. She was told to upgrade the modemn at $84 or buy a new one at $115.50, after much discussion we decided to buy so that we can have two modems instead of one. We were then told to pay two activation fee of $31.50 and $42. They insisted that if we have two modem then we must pay two activation fee or else we can only keep one modem by paying an upgrading fee of $84. 3) SMS sent to me reached after a few hrs later. 4) Network was poor 5)
Answer: Yes, you're right. Starhub don't reward loyalty. My contract expire a few months ago but they did not bother to call. Last time got one time, I ask them why old customer no gift, they said their policy. I ever told them I want to terminate, they said just terminate. I think instead of digital phone, just subscribe to singtel fixed phone line and save all the trouble.
Now they want to increase the fee, not even send me a letter.

my line is the one that charges you 5 cent for each sms you send. Then, after sending 5 SMSes that day, they reward you with 10 free SMSes.
So, if I want to SMS to a tv station (like you know the vote for celebrity thing..), and it costs 60 cents..will I be charged 60 cents? or will my SMS be void?
