Since Hungry Ghost festival and Merdeka day is coming up, was just wondering...?
Since that burning Hell money and clothing for those hungry ghosts is a norm, I suddenly felt pitiful for them that they cant celebrate Merdeka in the underworld.
Is it okay if I burn the Malaysian flag for those poor souls? Would it be good for them since there may be a lot of muhibbah and ultra patriotic souls too, considering that there are many who died defending the country during the Japanese occupation and those who were anticipating the coming of Merdeka?

Answer: yes u can have a look , at that festivals it will have dancing and performance and many food serve to the ghost as respect and soemmore they will burn many joss paper for the ghost like hell banknotes and paper car ,bungalow and servant is a big festivals ,don';t miss ii someore it will have taoist priest and Buddhiist to chant for the dead as they can rest in peace and nearly every taiost and buddhist familly will also serve some food candles josstick on that day at night. is chinese lunar calender July 14 means Western calender Sep 2. hope u enjoy it

Hungry ghost festival falls on the 7th moon, 15th day of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, making it on the 30th August for 2004 and 19th August for 2005. The build up to this festive date begins roughly a week before. Chinese Opera's and Chinese Puppet Shows are put together for audiences - the living and the non-living alike, at Temples and certain Chinese Associations for a week prior to the big day. The Hungry ghost festival has roots in the Buddhist festival, Ullambana, and also Daoist culture. In the Tang Dynasty, the Ullambana and Daoist festivities were combined and celebrated on the same day. The Ghost Festival has special meaning for all Buddhists and is one of their most important festivals.

Answer: I don't think honor is not the right word. The wandering spirits are like homeless beings with nobody taking care of them.
Recently we have a Lama over to perform a fire puja for these spirits.
Many people do not realise that without performing the proper rites, these wandering spirits cannot receive their offerings, or it may hurt them (the ghosts) if they receive the offerings.

Answer: Hungry Ghosts are rampaging spirits, restless homeless.
They have been abandoned by unfilial descendants, or are spirits of those who died violent deaths and were never given poper burials. According to a Taoist legend,
The gates of hell are opened once a year to allow such spirits to wander among the living.
To placate them, humans make offerings of
joss-sticks, food and money at every roadside, cross-roads, temple and other open spaces.
These are left at places not too near their homes-- for obvious reasons. Few older people like to go out after dark, and only the bold marry during this dangerous month.
At food markets, makeshift tents housing altars are built against a colourful setting of giant joss--sticks. As the festival draws to a close. street theatres or wayangs and puppet shows staged for the - by this time -- satiated-and: happy ghosts.
The celebration climaxes with a lavish ten- course dinner for man and ghost, followed by an auction of "good- luck" items. Throuhout the festival, the air is filled with noise, color. incense, smoke, lights - all for the Hungry Ghosts.
Nothing is forgotten, especially the disquieting thought that, in a year's time, the happy Ghostsr will be back again as the Hungry Ghosts.
