The detail schedule of train system schedule in Tokyo area on March 14, 2011.
Whats the best way to train for a marathon?
My friend and I who ran XC in high school have had the ambition to run a marathon for the past couple years, but because of college, me breaking my leg and having a metal plate put in, and a slew of other things (my friend is in Japan at the moment) weve never had a chance to really hash out any kind of training schedule.
What we really need to know is; should we start with
"long slow distance" and stick with that until race day, or should we incorporate speed drills every now and then? Is there any particular way we should eat? Heavy carbs, heavy protein? We have a good amount of experience running, but were not exactly in the shape of our lives, so any advice would be incredibly helpful. Thanks.
Answer: Runner's World Magazine has great training and nutrition tips for runners who are preparing for races of all different distances. They also have an on line training program which is available at a very reasonable cost. This program caters the training to you specifically, based upon your conditioning, and your goals. The RW training program will provide both exercise and nutrition tips to help you maximize your athletic potential without overdoing it and hurting yourself. I highly recommend it. I believe that you should start out with a moderate amount of miles and work your way up. Vary your workouts between hard and easy, and longer and shorter, to avoid injury and allow your muscles to improve. Increase mileage slowly over time, and train regularly. It takes most people 4 to 6 months to properly train for a marathon, so start well ahead of time. You need to put in some long training miles before the marathon. Most marathon runners will do training runs of 20 to 24 miles before the race. You have to work your way up to it, so start out shorter and slower, and gradually work your way up to that. A marathon pace is very different than the shorter races...long and steady at a moderate pace will get you across the finish line in one piece. Best advice: Run, run, run , and run some more. Check out RW mag's web site. Good Luck!!

Is it likely that my brother will go to Iraq in the next couple of months being #2 on the "waiting list"?
He, of course, is fresh out of Army National Guard Basic Training.
Half of his platoon is scheduled to go in June/July and he is #2 on the waiting list which means that if someone assigned to go gets sick, goes psycho, or moves to Canada they start calling on people on the waiting list.
I think him and our family knew in the back of our minds that he would get sent but my husband is in the Air Force and were stationed in Okinawa, Japan - were going home mid-June for a visit and Im so scared Im going to just miss him... not to mention just plain scared.
Answer: Hiya Ange! Sylvan Wizard here.
I would say the chances are high that your Brother may go to Iraq or any of a number of supporting bases or areas in the Middle East in support of the war in Iraq.......or, may even be sent to Afghanistan.
My Nephew is visiting his Dad in Minnesota from his base in Alaska (Fort Wainwright) and has been for a week, and will be in Indiana tomorrow for his 2nd week of leave to visit his Mom (my Sister) before returning to his base in Alaska and then on to Australia for joint exercises and then they will deploy to Iraq in theater from there.
Given that this is part of the "Troop Surge" and seeing very sadly, that this crisis in Iraq is not any longer a War but, a police-ing action "exactly" like that of the Vietnam War that I grew up during, sadly; I say that your Brother will most likely go.
I joined the Navy 3 years after the Vietnam War ended (I was 18 then) and it angers me that the Politicians have not learned a damn thing from the mistakes made in Vietnam as many grew up or protested and some even served in regards to the Vietnam War.
To know that 58,000+ names are on the black V-shaped Vietnam War Memorial due to ignorance and a failed leadership makes me angry as I know there will be a day in the not to distant future that another memorial will be erected at Arlington, and I hope and pray to God that your Brother's name or my Nephew's name is not on it let alone the current 3400+ KIA names that already would be on there.
This is deeply troubling for your family, my family, and many families. It would be different if we were fighting a "real" war with a true enemy that was a threat to our country, but, the very notion that our troops are being asked to patrol the streets of a country where armed factions that wear no uniforms, fight without rules, and are willing to be martyrs and killtheir fellow countrymen without hesitation is the worse scenario any soldier could be in.
The mere fact that our troops are in the epicenter of a country with the population of 24 Million people and our numbers are only 140 to 160 thousand, clearly shows that our leaders are not committed to victory by atrition or any means necessary.
Hopefully you will see your Brother in June, but, I don't think they'll just pluck him up and send him individually as it would only make sense that he will have to go through some advanced combat training as my Nephew is and has so far.
I would estimate that by a conservative estimate, the soonest he would even go to Iraq or in that area would be in September and even as late as January. Hoepfully by then........I would hope; that our troops are either headed home, or we have decided to totally wipe out the Insurgents and anyone dumb enough to stay near them.
It is upsetting to know that any troops in Iraq currently or yet to be deployed is heading into a situation that as it is being managed currently is a "NO WIN" situation.
Take Care. Don't know if this helps, but, you know I always give candid and deep thought answers.

I’ve added some websites for helping you format your resume properly.
Any & all edits etc I’ve made are only suggestions – this is your resume so feel free to do what you’d like with them. You’ve got a lot of great experiences & achievements!!!
I edited in word which let me put my edits in bold etc but I couldn't do that here - if you would like me to email you the word doc just let me know.
Your education & training etc should be listed prior to your work experience. You also need a heading and objective – the websites can help you with this – choose headings like Professional Experience as opposed to Work Experience etc. Plus make sure to include a cover letter.

The UK train network is terrible!?
Slow, unreliable and forever under maintenance! Why dont follow Japans example; build a few shinkansen and conduct the repairs during times that wont effect the passengers schedules?
Ok Jim fair enough but how does Japan manage to accomplish this then? \its not impossible to achieve!
Answer: I agree with Jim to some extent - but I do have to say that repairs and engineering possessions take far longer today then they did under BR. Part of the reason for this is the fragmented state the railways were left in after privatisation. Clearing up after a relatively minor accident takes forever. In the past, closure caused by an accident would usually last a couple of days at most.
However, you are wrong in saying the network is slow and unreliable. 90% or more of trains arrive within 10 minutes of their advertised times. Some lines achieve an almost 100%. Have a look at performance figures for c2c (Fenchurch Street to Southend and Tilbury) at http://www.c2c-online.co.uk/about_us/performance/punctuality or Chiltern Trains at http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/travelling-with-us/our-performance/
Speeds on 'classic' lines have been increasing all the time. Within my lifetime, for example a trip from London to Edinburgh has changed from being one that took most of the day to where it is possible to have a day out in the Scottish capital returning the same day.
And we are building 'shinkansen' We have the HS1, the line to the channel tunnel, which is also used by local services to Kent. The proposal to build HS2 from London to the North was announced recently, and seems likely to go ahead, which ever party is elected (Nimbies permitting)
One last point. All this work costs money. Are you prepared to pay extra taxes to speed up such construction? The railways don't have a money tree.

I teach in Japan. Should I move or not??? What do you think?
I teach English in Japan. I have been here 2 years and was placed in the countryside by my company. I now have the chance to move into the city.
Countryside-
I know the students, I have a lot of free time at work, I can leave early sometimes, 10 minute commute, cheap rent, I can take my vacation days whenever I want, far from other English speaking friends, lonely, have to ride my bike an hour to the city when I want to stay out past 10:30 (the time of the last bus home...)
City-
New students and teachers, larger/smaller apartment (currently unknown), more expensive rent, busier job, closer to English speaking friends, no more bus schedules, close to the train station, no more nature, cant take my vacation days whenever I want, definately cant leave early, longer commute
I would move in August and this would be my last year here....
any thoughts?
Answer: I think it would be better if you would stay longer in the countryside... Think about the number of people who work in the city, longing to feel and experience, even for just a few days, spending time in a countryside! Even I would prefer the countryside! Maybe I would move to the city, if I would get tired of appreciating the beauty of the countryside.

My wife and I are headed to Japan and would like to get some opinions from locals & travelers to Japan?
1/2. Could anyone please offer us some helpful websites about traveling to Japan on a budget, insider info, food, landmarks, sites?
1. Is it possible to see and relatively enjoy all Hiroshima has to offer as far as Historical WW2 sites, and other historical places in a half day, say 6 to 7 hours?
2. Were thinking of staying at a capsule hotel for a night, if the locker at that hotel is not big enough for our medium sized luggage or big backpacks where could we store it?
2 1/2. As far as Capsule hotels, Im a big American boy, 180 cm about 240 pounds, Am I asking for an uncomfortable sleepless night at a Capsule hotel?
3. Were going to travel using JR line mostly & walking, Medium size luggage with wheels or big travelers backpacks recommended?
4. Are ATM fees expensive? I heard you can only bring in $500 US dollars worth of cash.
5. What is the best 1 day tours with best views and experiences of Mt. Fuji ?
6. Out of Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, or near Mt. Fuji which would be best to try the Roykan with or without onsen?
7. Could anyone please offer us some helpful websites about Ryokan hotel deals?
8. Were coming late Feb 2011 & Id love to see a spring training Baseball game, hopefully the Giants at Tokyo Dome. - Can anyone help with information about tickets, purchasing, schedules?
9. How can I thank you all for your help in 5 different languages?
Answer: 1. http://www.Japan-guide.com
http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng
http://www.agoda.com
Just type the word 'Japan' into your browser and choose from the multitude of answers.
2. Capsule hotels are for men only. They were invented to cater to businessmen who missed their last train. Couples cannot stay in the same capsule. Each capsule is designed for ONE person only.
The lockers are tiny as well as narrow, and they can NOT accommodate luggage of any size. Some hotels MIGHT be able to store your luggage behind the front desk(but I have never encountered such a place; in fact, I had to take a private room because I had too much luggage).
2.5 Each capsule is quite comfortable, and contains tv, alarm clock, radio and you are not allowed to keep your luggage inside the capsule itself.(I am 180cm, 175 lbs, but I had a comfortable sleep; note: the size of the capsule depends on the hotel: they are not uniform).
3.Travel as light as you possibly can. I prefer to take a medium backpack on wheels that fits airline criteria for carry-on, then place an empty linen or foldable bag inside it for souvenirs I want to bring back.
4.ATMs are not all that expensive. You can bring about $10,000 without having to complete a lot of paperwork. Exchange enough money before your flight to have about 30,000 yen upon arrival in Japan. Be sure to inform your bank and credit card cormpany of your trip, otherwise they will put a block on your accounts.
5.You can climb Mt.Fuji in July/August only. A tour of Lake Ashi is nice. Go to your local travel agent and pick up some brochures there.
6.There are a multitude of Ryokan, each with different policies. Some will have men and women segregated; in every ryokan, though, bathing times for men and women are segregated.
7. Just type 'ryokan japan' into your browser and choose from the multitude of URLs you will get.
8. If you go mid-February, you may be able to attend the Yuki Matsuri(Snow festival) in Sapporo. It is truly incredible.
9.Arigatou gozaimasu, hartelijk bedankt, vielen dank, merci bien, thank you.

3 Equations and Functions Word Problem ? Help !!!!!!!!!!!! 10 Points !!!!!!!!!!! Easy !!!!!!!?
I am stuck on these word problems and do not understand it ! Please show your work and explain how to do it !
1. The fee for your pager
service is $22 per month. Make a
function table that shows your total
charge for 1, 2, 3, and 4 months of
service.
2. Joe takes 2 steps for
every one step that Kim takes. Write
an equation in two variables showing
the relationship between Joe’s steps
and Kim’s steps. If Kim takes 15 steps,
how many steps will Joe have to take
to cover the same distance?
3. Between Hiroshima and
Kokura, Japan, the bullet train
averages a speed of 164 miles per hour,
which is the fastest scheduled train
service in the world. Make a function
table that shows the distance traveled
at that speed in 1, 2, 3, and 4 hours.
Answer: 1.
I'm not sure what you mean by function table, but the equation for it is
f=22m
or, fee = 22*months
So fee for a month = $22, 2 months = $44, 3 months = $66, 4 months = $88
2.
J=2K
which means Joe takes 2 * Kim's steps.
2* 15 = 30, so when Kim takes 15 steps, Joe will have taken 30 steps to cover the same distance.
3.
Again I'm not sure what you mean by a function table...
The speed is 164 miles per hour, so in 1 hour it'll pass 164 miles, in 2 hours it'll have travelled 164 * 2, after 3 hours it'll have travelled 164 * 3, and after 4 hours 164 * 4
164 * 1 = 164
164 * 2 = 328
164 * 3 = 492
164 * 4 = 656

This is a rough draft of my resume, and I would like to know your opinion. Do you think I will stand out? Do you think it will be difficult for me to find a job with transitioning back to the states? I think that I have done more than a typical person at my age, but I am not sure.

Delta/NWA flight change - Stranded in Tokyo (maybe)?
I am a bit confused as to what I should do about this. My vacation to Kyoto Japan was scheduled for August 15-23rd.
My flight schedule was MIA (5:45AM) - ATL (8:00 AM), ATL (12 NOON) - NRT (1:30 PM). I was perfectly happy with the schedule but then they changed it without even alerting me and its a good thing i check periodically. I wouldnt leave Atlanta until 2:30 in the afternoon then I would arrive at Tokyo Narita Airport at 5:00 pm. This is a big problem for me because 1) I will be sitting in Atlanta for 6 hours and 2) I arrive in Japan way too late since I need to travel to Kyoto and public transportation (as far as I know) in Japan closes at 8pm. Assuming I clear customs in 1 hour it would take me at LEAST 4 hours to get to Kyoto via the bullet train. I will be then stuck in Kyoto station. I could probably take a taxi to the hotel from there but it is very expensive.
Is there any way I can complain to Delta that arriving in Japan that late would be problematic for not only me but probably everyone on the flight? Or at least so im not stuck in Atlanta for 6 hours. I think it is very unfair. They had also changed my plane from a Boeing 777 to a 747 so now I cant even use my laptop on a 14 hour flight. I am very upset. If anything could be done about it should I wait until the flight date gets closer in case it changes again? This is rediculous how you can spend $1000+ on a plane ticket only for them to fiddle around with the schedule however they want. What can I do? Any help would be greaty appreciated. Thank you.

Answer: Looks good, just download an outline for a resume on microsoft word and fill it in, the only drawback would be being overqualified for the job you are going for, if thats the case trim some of the extras like your awards and international accomplishments and things like that.

What would be the best way to volunteer in Japan?
I am a Japanese-American that can speak fluent Japanese. I am currently in Saitama-Ken helping out family friends with their own business. I also have plans to head south to Kochi-Ken to meet some family. Is there anyway I can volunteer if my work schedule ends July 15, even for a couple days then hop on a bullet train back to Kochi? Once I get to Kochi I plan on spending a few days before I hop on a flight back to Haneda airport, and depart Japan on July 24 back to America.
I can fluently speak Japanese, and can read Hiragana and katakana. However i have a hard time reading Kanji.
Answer: You want to volunteer in disaster hit areas? There are many volunteer openings for those areas. If you really can read Japanese, you can search for it on Japanese webs.

I need to research Modern Japan...?
OK, Im writing a story set in present-day Japan. I have my reasons-it HAS to be set there. Problem is, Im having trouble with research. I want to obtain a good feel of the Japanese Urban landscape-I need maps and I need to find information on Japanese trains schedules, train routes, residencial areas well everything I can lay my hands on actually.
So please,do you guys know any books or sites that can provide me with some information? I dont mind the work...thats another kind fo pleasure in itself. So if you know anything it would be very much appreciated.
Answer: Well I live in japan but was born and raised my entire life in America, and would be willing to help you with any specific questions you have, my email (that I check) is 14touvjo@canacad.ac.jp

ACL surgery...I need it and have an Issue w/ Choosing Doctors. Help Please?
I was recently diagnosed with a completely torn ACL in my left knee as well as lateral meniscus damage (severity not yet known). I have 2 doctors i have already seen. Both seem fine but i am leaning towards one more than the other. The one i want to use is out of my insurance network. Based on this insurance will not cover him fully. Total cost of surgery/hospital plus doctor w/o insurance is almost 20k. The hospital he would use is on my network so insurance will pay 70% of the cost which is 11K. 30% is my responsibility=3.5k. Doc fees insurance would cover up to 50% of what they deem "fair". His cost is 8.5K. 50% of that is bout 4K. Total for out of network cost to me would between 7.5k and 9k.
Other doc is on my insurance plan. Insurance will cover everything for him once u reach my deductible of 250, which i have met ans surpassed (at 600 now) however there is another deductible of 3600 before insurance will cover me 10% (3600 includes 250 deductible in that). So Basically will have to pay 3k for in network doc.
My question is this....Who out there patients or doctors can guide me in the right direction with doctor choice. The out of network doc is baller....he is a US olympic physician, he went to ridiculously good school for his training and japan for specialty micro surgery training. He comes highly recommended. My grandfather had surgery on his knee by him in 1990 and thought he was great.
In network doc also comes highly recommended. He is younger than the other guy but has lots of experience. Does ACLs and meniscus repairs all the time. My Personal doc sent me to him after his doc friends told him this guy was the best around.
Both docs are highly trained and masters in orthopedic surgery with specialties in arthroscopic surgery and ACL/ meniscus are regular procedures for them.
Please help me make the decision. I am torn between docs solely based on the cost to me. My parents said they will help me pay for the surgery (im a college student-age 24).
I am very active: jiu jitsu, running, skimboarding, skateboarding, etc and i need this surgery to be a success and get me back to what i love to do w/o second guessing my choice in the future.
Help needed asap.. gotta schedule surgery for my Thanksgiving break so i dont miss too much school!
where i wrote 10% was supposed to be 100%. Sorry
Answer: first u can Private emssage me so I cna suggest antoher good knee surgeon (depending on where u live). I can try to help u there, IE you'll have to check if ur insurance covers him, but I would go with the dr who is really good with knees, well known and good bedside manners.
