Kennedy Space Center- viewing shuttle launch this August!?
hi, erm i had a question for people who have been to the center with causeway tickets and seen a launch or generally anyone who knows! well- the question is - how bad is traffic on the day? the launch i think is at 6pm so should i allow how many hours journey there??
thanks :) so excited
Answer: I hope the tickets were free, because you can see the launch anywhere from the Titusville area facing east. Get there early and stake out a spot, bring all the picnic gear you would for a regular outing, and enjoy a day in the sun people watching. When you leave to avoid the traffic nightmare(believe me it will be BAD), find a restaurant and have a dinner there. Let the traffic die down then return home. It is a perfect day in Florida, very exciting and you will get to talk to all kinds of people from all over the world who are here to see the launch and many who have seen every launch from the earliest times. It's great.

do you believe that the power of Jesus can heal you with the Faith you have in HIM?
Yesterday, i was a passenger in a truck crossing the Pontratrain causeway the longest bridge over water in the world, and i am claustrothobic and im very scared to be in a car on a bridge that is crossing water at 60 to 70 mphs and it was raining and the traffic was pretty heavy. so im flopping around like a fish and my friend is on the phone having a fight with his wife and drinking a beer and he is driving 70 mphs stearing the truck with his knee, He turns to me and said that he wasnt even driving that the Lord had the controls so wheres your Faith, and as i see the words coming out his mouth, well i all of a sudden got very relaxed and within 5 minutes the sun was out and we were off the bridge. I really dont know what happened but it was like we had a Devine power in the truck. I always knew that Faith has alot to do in fighting fear & evil but what i experenced in the truck boosted my Faith in the Lord almighty by 10 fold! and i will never doubt my Faith again.

In Hong Kong, How much does it cost to take a taxi from causeway bay to shatin? Assuming theres no traffic.?
In Hong Kong, How much does it cost to take a taxi from causeway bay to shatin? Assuming theres no traffic.
The reason Im asking is, Ill be moving to Hong Kong for work soon. And since the rent is cheaper in Shatin, is it worth living there considering that Ill have to travel farther to get to Hong Kong island (for work and partying).
Or should I just find a place in Hong Kong island that costs more to rent, but closer to everywhere else?
Answer: That depends really on what kind of taxi you'll hire. Basically there's three colors of taxi there--the red one, which serves urban areas (Hong Kong Island and Kowloon), the green one, which serves the New Territories, and the blue one, which serves Lantau Island. Flat fare is (when I was there last Oct 2008) about HK$16 for red taxis, about HK$13.50 for green taxis, and HK$12 for blue taxis. For every 0.2 km after that, it's HK$1.2-1.4... if you're going to Sha Tin from Causeway Bay, you need0 to hire a green taxi.
But I don't really recommend hiring a taxi. Just use the MTR (subway system in HK), which is cheaper... or, if you become familiar to the place, you can use other forms of transport together with the MTR, like trams and ferries.

Are U an Indian?
Dear Friends.
I hv recd this mail from a great friend...would like to share with u all...pls spare 600 seconds...
===============
The Former President of India DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam s Speech in Hyderabad . *
Why is the media here so negative?
Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our achievements?
We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success stories but we refuse acknowledge them--- Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a self-sustaining, self-driving unit.
There are millions of such achievements but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters.
I was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place.
The Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to.
The gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the newspaper, buried among other news.
In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime.
Why are we so NEGATIVE?
Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign things? We want foreign T. Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign technology.
Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . For her,
you and I will have to build this developed India .
You must proclaim. India is not an under-developed nation; it is a highly developed nation.
Do you have 10 minutes? Allow me to come back with a vengeance.
Got 10 minutes for your country? If yes, then read; otherwise, choice is yours.
YOU say that our government is inefficient.
YOU say that our laws are too old.
YOU say that the municipality does not pick up the garbage.
YOU say that the phones dont work, the railways are a joke,
The airline is the worst in the world, mails never reach their destination.
YOU say that our country has been fed to the dogs and is the absolute pits.
YOU say, say and say. What do YOU do about it?
Take a person on his way to Singapore . Give him a name - YOURS. Give him aface - YOURS. YOU walk out of the airport and you are at your International best. In Singapore you dont throw cigarette butts on the roads or eat in the stores.
YOU are as proud of their Underground links as they are. You pay $5 (approx. Rs. 60) to drive through Orchard Road (equivalent of Mahim Causeway or Pedder Road ) between 5 PM and 8 PM.
YOU come back to the parking lot to punch your parking ticket if you have over stayed in a restaurant or a shopping mall irrespective of your status identity....
In Singapore you dont say anything, DO YOU?
YOU wouldnt dare to eat in public during Ramadan, in Dubai .
YOU would not dare to go out without your head covered
in Jeddah .
YOU would not dare to buy an employee of the telephone exchange in London at 10 pounds ( Rs.650) a month to, see to it that my STD and ISD calls are billed to someone else.YOU would not dare to speed beyond 55 mph (88 km/h) in Washington and then tell the traffic cop,Jaanta hai main kaun hoon (Do you know who I am?). I am so and sos son. Take your two bucks and get lost.
YOU wouldnt chuck an empty coconut shell anywhere other than the garbage pail on the beaches in Australia and New
Zealand .
Why dont YOU spit Paan on the streets of Tokyo ? Why dont YOU use examination jockeys or buy fake certificates in Boston ??? We are still talking of the same YOU.
YOU who can respect and conform to a foreign system
in other countries but cannot in your own. You who will throw papers and cigarettes on the road the moment you touch Indian ground. If you can be an involved and appreciative citizen in an alien country, why cannot you be the same here in India ?
Once in an interview, the famous Ex-municipal commissioner of Bombay , Mr. Tinaikar , had a point to make. Rich peoples dogs are walked on the streets to leave their affluent droppings all over the place, he said. And then the same people turn around to criticize and blame the authorities for inefficiency and dirty pavements. What do they expect the officers to do? Go down with a broom every time their dog feels the pressure in his bowels?
In America every dog owner has to clean up after his pet has done the job. Same in Japan . Will the Indian citizen do that here? Hes right. We go to the polls to choose a government and after that forfeit all responsibility.
We sit back wanting to be pampered and expect the government to do everything for us whilst our contribution is totally negative. We expect the government to clean up but we are not going to stop chucking garbage all over the place nor are we going to stop to pick a up a stray piece of paper and throw it in the bin. We expect the railways to provide clean bathrooms but we are not going to learn the proper use of bathrooms.
We want Indian Airlines and Air India to provide the best of food and toiletries but we are not going to stop pilfering at the least opportunity.
This applies even to the staff who is known not to pass on the service to the public. When it comes to burning social issues like those related towomen, dowry, girl child! and others, we make loud drawing room protestations and continue to do the reverse at home. Our excuse?
Its the whole system which has to change, how will it matter if I alone forego my sons rights to a dowry. So whos going to change the system? What does a system consist of ? Very conveniently for us it consists of our neighbours, other households, other cities, other communities and the
government.
But definitely not me and YOU. When it comes to us actually
making a positive contribution to the system we lock ourselves along with our families into a safe cocoon and look into the distance at countries far away and wait for a Mr.Clean to come along & work miracles for us with a majestic sweep of his hand or we leave the country and run away.
Like lazy cowards hounded by our fears we run to America to bask in their glory and praise their system. When New York becomes insecure we run to England . When England experiences unemployment, we take the next flight out
to the Gulf. When the Gulf is war struck, we demand to be rescued and brought home by the Indian government. Everybody is out to abuse and rape the country. Nobody thinks of feeding the system. Our conscience is mortgaged to money.
Dear Indians, The article is highly thought inductive, calls for a greatdeal of introspection and pricks ones conscience too.... I am echoing J. F. Kennedy s words to his fellow Americans to relate to Indians.....
ASK WHAT WE CAN DO FOR INDIA
AND DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO MAKE INDIA
WHAT AMERICA AND OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES ARE TODAY
Lets do what India needs from us.
Forward this mail to each Indian for a change instead of sending Jokes or junk mails.
Thank you
Answer: Of course I am an Indian and proud to be one.

Does being an illegal alien justify fleeing from hit & run accident &what would the pro illegal tell family?
TAMPA -- He was here illegally from Mexico, according to investigators, working to support his family across the border.
He remained unnoticed for years, until the night he killed two people crossing the Courtney Campbell, then drove away.
One of the victims was just 4-years-old.
In court Friday, his family asked for the maximum punishment, and thats exactly what the judge gave him.
Inside the Tampa courtroom, sobs and tears all but drowned out their testimony. Angel Andujar, the man whod raised 4-year-old Josh Morrow from a baby, was one of the first to get up.
"I would like you to understand the damage you have caused my family," he began in his native Spanish. "You killed my grandson."
Andujar knows hell never get Josh back. "No mas brazos, no mas besos" an interpreter translated, "No more hugs, no more kisses."
He was addressing Armando Lopez-Canada, the illegal immigrant convicted of killing the boy and his uncle, Ronnie Bishop, in a hit and run on the Courtney Campbell Causeway three days after Christmas 2006.
Other family members filled the courtroom. Grown men reduced to tears, friends who could barely get the words out, all asking the judge for the maximum: 30 years in prison.
There were tears and there was anger. Brenda Andujar, Joshs grandmother and Ronnies sister held up a picture of young Josh, the last picture she had taken of him.
"Take a look at this picture, Mr. Canada. I want you to look at him. I want it to be the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night."
Lopez-Canadas family and friends were there to testify too, asking the judge for leniency.
Arguing that Ronnie and Josh had darted in front of traffic—the light was green—there was no crosswalk.
Even police said the night of the accident, had Lopez-Canada just stopped, there would have been no charges.
Eliezer Rangel Luna, a friend of Lopez-Canada told the judge that after that accident, he fled because he was frightened.
"As far as the accident, he told me after the accident he was very nervous he didnt know what to do and thats why he left," Luna said.
Lopez-Canada himself addressed the court, apologizing to the family.
"Lo siento por todo lo que paso..." he began. The translater explained, "The only thing I would like to say is Im sorry, very sorry about everything that has happened."
For the families of Ronnie and Josh, this sentence was vindication. They got everything they asked for -- Armando Lopez-Canada will spend 30 years in prison. That vindication was in the courtroom, of course. In life, there are some things they will never get back.

Question for Florida Pilots?
I am planning a trip next week from KFXE to KEYW. I have never flown in Florida before and I have a few questions regarding the weather, airspace and traffic.
1) In terms for flying what is the weather like in Southern Florida this time of year? I am a private pilot without an instrument rating and I am a little nervous because I do know cloud cover can move quickly in Florida. What is the best way to read the weather? Is it any different than New England (where I fly) summers?
2) Flying from Fort Lauderdale Exec to Key West poses a lot of airspace. My flight instructor suggests I go inland around and under the Miami Bravo while the man I am renting the plane from suggests I fly along the Atlantic Coast at 1,200 ft. What would you recommend? Also, what is the probability and at what time am I most likely to get cleared through the Bravo?
3) Finally, traffic. I would imagine that if I choose to fly the coast (or even inland) there is a lot of other VFR traffic. Any tips besides keeping the peepers peeled?
Again as I said earlier, this is my fist time flying in Florida and any other suggestions, tips or facts you can provide would be most appreciated. I figure once through the FLL and MIA airspace, Ill fly along the causeway.
Answer: 1) Florida weather is pretty predictable while being unpredictable. File a VFR flight plan and do your thing, if condition look good to you and the forecast looks good on the way. ATC will take of you for the most part and there are plenty of fields to land if need be.
2) I recommend to coastline. I've flown from Ft. Lauderdale and Pompano to KEYW many times. It's more scenic, less cloud cover, and more usable airspace. 1,000 to 1,500 is usually prime altitude for coast line flying.
3)The only tip I can give you regarding this one is to not only keep your eyes peeled, but use your radios and make yourself known. Again, ATC for the most local airports will keep you updated and filled in on local traffic.
Florida is beautiful flying, but it can get bumpy with the erratic weather situation. Winter in FL is pretty uncomplicated, but don't ever let your guard down....it's still FL. Lots of pressure differentials, up and down drafts, clouds, and sudden wind direction changes, but none of which should be a very big concern this time of year. Good luck and have fun!

which is better?using the johor causeway or the tuas second link?
im planning to enter singapore this saturday morning.i heard that the causeway bridge is jammed up due to the recent escape of mat selamat.i was thinking of using the second link bridge but the toll charges are just exorbitant.i am planning to travel to singapore this saturday morning say around 10am,,,,is it allright???will there be a massive traffic jam?
Answer: It would be better to use the second link. If you are coming down from the north look for the Tuas/Nusajaya/Gelang Patah turnoff. The Malaysian immigration checkpoint is efficient and quick. The toll fee is M$10.80. On Saturday @10am it should be reasonably quick through Singapore Immigration and customs.Cost to enter Singapore is S$4:80,
by cashcard. The legacy of Mas Selamat is the car boot check and fingerprint check when you leave Singapore.
The Woodlands entrance to Singapore on Saturdays is so long, it will spoil your mood for the day, best to use the second link.

where to stay better, new territory or tsim sha tsui, HK?
ive been to tsim sha tsui this month. i stayed there for 4 days. it was great. 7 eleven are walking distances from my hotel. the ferry terminal to macau is a walking distant too. the biggest mall, harbour plaza, MTR, street and night markets all are just a couple minutes away from where i stayed.
i planned to stay there this october. but my friend who always stays at the new territories, particularly in causeway bay, says it better in new territories. ive been to the new territories on my way to the ocean park, it think they have higher buildings there, but more traffic. i have never made a tour or shopping there though.
in your opinion, which is the better place to stay? in new territories or in tsim sha tsui?
oh yeah, sorry... i meant new territories (tsim sha tsui0 or hongkong island... thanks
Answer: It seems you're a little confused where New Territories is, see the following link. You will see that Hong Kong Island is about 80 sq km, Kowloon (where Tsim Sha Tsui is) less than 50, and New Territories is 950 sq km, its a big area.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Districts_of_Hong_Kong
Therefore you need to decide where it is more convenient for you. Unless it's a resort type of hotel, I don't think you could be more than a few minutes away from restaurants and shops anywhere, just not as upscale as Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Fined for waiting outside the no-waiting zone near Causeway Point, Woodlands Square.?
The traffic wardens circle around Woodlands Square eager to summon unaware motorists. They do not have to go far to catch drivers who cannot be help but need to stop around Woodlands Square to pick up children or family members, return library books etc. All these take only 5 minutes, and the fine was $70. As in my case, I need to explain that my wife was in the car but she was not approached by the warden to move the car. This, I consider arm-twisting tactics. I was waiting out of the no-waiting zone to run a quick errant, because going to the basement car park will mean a $1 parking fee and after all most Singaporeans are always in a rush. I agree this is our weakness. It is a simple habit which I wish the authorities will understand. I plead with the authorities to remove Woodlands Square as a no-waiting zone if indeed it is one. Allow us to show care in a way that has no frills. I was trying to look for a website to appeal but the traffic police does not allow one, and going to the traffic police will mean that I have to take half a days leave, incur more parking fees and time. Does anyone have such a problem? I am stressed ...
Answer: What Frank said is correct. It is deisgnated as a "No Waiting Zone" for obvious reasons.Because people do not know where to park their vehicles so asnot to obstruct traffic.
Please do not park your car in that manner around woodlands square in the future. The reason that the parking wardens are so active there is because there are many motorists who would park their cars illegally along the road. It's only a three lane road and the traffic condition worsens if we have cars lining up left and right of the road.
Avoid having this mindset that it would "take only 5 mins".You will cause obstruction to the other road users. And it is this obstruction issues that the wardens are there. Can you imagine if everyone would park their cars like that "for only 5 mins"?
You just have to go to Causeway Point or Civic Centre during the weekends to find out how illegal parking inconvenience other road users.

Faster way to scan fingerprints
JOHOR BARU: Visitors to Malaysia coming through the Causeway and the second link will be assured of faster immigration clearance from today as they no longer have to alight their vehicles to have their fingers scanned under the biometric fingerprint scanning system.
A motorist makes a journey of 240 km from Singapore to Malacca to visit his-in-laws at an average speed of?
x km/h. Write down an expression for the number of hours taken for the journey.
On his return journey from Malacca to Singapo, his average speed is reduced by 6km/h due to heavy traffic at the Causeway. Write down an expression for the time taken for the return journey.
If the return journey takes 20 minutes longer, form an equation in x and solve it to find the average speed for each journey, giving your answer correct to two decimal places.
Answer: (I worked this through FOUR times before noticing that the difference in time on the way back was in MINUTES, while the rates were in km/HOUR....)
A motorist makes a journey of 240 km from Singapore to Malacca to visit his-in-laws at an average speed of x km/h. Write down an expression for the number of hours taken for the journey.
t = d / r = 240/x
On his return journey from Malacca to Singapo, his average speed is reduced by 6km/h due to heavy traffic at the Causeway. Write down an expression for the time taken for the return journey.
t = d / r = 240/(x - 6)
If the return journey takes 20 MINUTES (1/3 hour) longer, form an equation in x and solve it to find the average speed for each journey, giving your answer correct to two decimal places.
240/x + 1/3 = 240/(x - 6)
Multiply through by x(x - 6)
240(x - 6) + 1/3 x(x - 6) = 240x
240x - 1440 + 1/3 x² - 2x = 240x
1/3 x² - 2x - 1440 = 0
x² - 6x - 4320 = 0
This is unfactorable without using the quadratic.
x = (6 ± √(6² - 4(1)(-4320))/2 = (6 ± √17316)/2 = (6 ± 6√481)/2
x = 3 ± 3√481
But a negative rate makes no sense, so:
x = 3 + 3√481 ≈ 68.80 km/hr
So on the way back, he went an average of 62.80 km/hr.
Check:
on the way there, it took 240km/(68.80km/hr) = 3.489 hours, or 3 hours, 29.3 minutes.
on the way back, it took 240km/(62.80km/hr) = 3.822 hours, or 3 hours, 49.3 minutes...which is a difference of 20 minutes.
Whew, that took me a long time to get right.

Is the MacArthur Causeway in Miami, Florida a toll road?
Im moving to Miami for six weeks and will be at the Miami Childrens Hospital. Rent seems to be cheaper in South Beach for short term rentals. However, I wanted to know if the MacArthur Causeway is a toll road. Im fairly certain the Venetian is, but wanted information from a local resident.
Additionally, is the commute bad? Ive used Google mapping to estimate, but traffic can really throw it off. Will there be any delays with the bridge? Ill be going to the hospital around 5 in the morning, but dont know what time Ill be coming back (probably anywhere from 4-7). Any firsthand accounts would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Answer: MacArthur Causeway has no tolls but tolls will be nothing compared to the gas you'll use because of distance. MCH is in or just west of Coral Gables. Your commute will be long & miserable, esp. in the afternoon. It is true the area in which it is located is not cheap -- because it is a desirable area.
There ARE lower cost areas closer in. Look at ads in the area of Bird Road (SW 40th St) or Coral Way (SW 24th St) west of 67th Ave. (Street number 6700+) This area has a lot of apartments that are popular with U of Miami and Florida International University (FIU) students nearby. Look for ads that say "FIU" area, a little further out but much closer than Miami Beach.
Short terms are harder to find but there are always students, roommates & people moving in & near these two large universities.

Are American lives being put in danger in the name of better life A traffic stop turned high-speed chase?
PORT LAVACA - A traffic stop turned high-speed chase down state Highway 35 and over the Lavaca Bay causeway ended in a bail out of more than 10 suspected illegal immigrants Wednesday afternoon.
The chase began as a traffic stop at the intersection of Half League Street and state Highway 35, Police Chief John Stewart said.
The white Ford van increased in speed going north on state Highway 35 and rear-ended a vehicle on the causeway. It also eventually rear-ended Officer Stephen Strouds patrol vehicle, Stewart said.
People then began jumping out of the van, Stewart said.
At one point, the van was recorded traveling more than 80 mph in a 40 mph zone, Stewart added.
The condition of two women in the first vehicle stuck was unknown, Stewart said.
Stroud was taken to Memorial Medical Center for observation and was later released, the chief said.
"The officer had no idea all these people were in there," Stewart said.
At least six of the suspected illegal immigrants were caught and taken into custody. The rest got lost in the brush, he said.
"They all appear to be South American," Stewart said. "Were calling immigration to come in."
Several of those apprehended sustained injuries as a result of the wrecks, Stewart said.
Though the search was called off, the police department, Calhoun County Sheriffs Office and a Department of Public Safety helicopter continued searching the area Wednesday afternoon.
