Which of the following is correct?Pls help.?
a. We took this photograph " at " Singapore Science Centre.
b. We took this photograph " in the " Singapore Science Centre.
Answer: B is perfectly OK. In A, the definite article "the" is missing, which makes it sound odd. Missing out the word "the" would imediately mark you out as a non-native English speaker.
We took this photograph at the Singapore Science Centre.
If it was specifically inside the building, you could say "in the" or "inside the". However, don't ever leave out the word "the" before the name of a building or an institution.

Limestone crystal help!!!?
(i recently went to the singapore science centre and bought this limestone which contained crystal,so i broke it apart and found some shiny crystal like thing inside so i would like to ask if anybody knows what it really is...
pls help me
and also if it is worth money?
ps: i bought it for S$5
pls help me
its is really quite shiny and it can really scratch glass
Answer: Limestone is made of calcite (CaCO3) so it is possible that your crystal is a calcite or aragonite crystal that has grown within a cavity in the limestone. However, calcite will NOT scratch glass in a normal scratch test. Calcite has a hardness of 3 on Moh's scale and glass has a hardness of about 5.5 to 6. Calcite can be clear, white, brown, or less commonly other colors.
Here is Moh's scale of hardness:
http://www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/hardness1.html
Here is a picture and more description of calcite crystals:
http://www.mindat.org/min-859.html
Quartz crystals are common and will scratch glass. Quartz has a hardness of 6-7 on Moh's scale. Quartz is commonly clear, but can come in any color.
Here is a picture and more description of quartz crystals:
http://www.mindat.org/min-3337.html
The rock you are describing might be a geode, in which case it is common to find a hollow center that can contain different types of mineral crystals. Here is a description of geodes:
http://www.desertusa.com/magjan98/jan_pap/du_rock_geode.html
The best way you can identify your mineral is to go to the Mineralogical Society of America website where they have an online mineral identification key that you can use to diagnose your mineral online:
http://www.minsocam.org/msa/collectors_corner/id/mineral_id_keyi1.htm
Quartz and calcite are the two most common crystals that you might find, but many other minerals are possible. I also suggest you go to mindat.org and just browse through the thousands of minerals there, and you will see some other possibilities. You can also search the site by rock properties, so if you identify a certain property of your crystal you can use this to narrow the search.

fake blue topaz?
I just bought a small bottle of what was claimed to be blue topaz(made in India) in the Singapore Science centre. After I went home, I took the stones out and realized my finger became blue..after I wash the stones with a bow of water, the water turned light blue too. The stones on the other hand, became not as blue.
I suspect my topaz was fake. Does anyone, especially those who knows Singapore Science ctr, has a similar experience with blue topaz? so are my cheap topaz fake?
Answer: No natural gemstone will ever soil your fingures.
It is easy to check topaz through its hardness. A natural topaz will scratch glass easily, will even scratch quartz.
The best thing for you is to take it to the geology department of your nearest University and make a proper identification.
I am from India. I never came across such an article as described by you.

Which is more fun?a=Singapore Discovery Centre b=Singapore Science Centre?
Only for Singaporeans to choose.
Answer: Singapore Science Centre is now known as Science Centre, Singapore. Crap I know... But nothing much has changed ever since I went there like 10 years ago... The stupid bicycle is still there- the one where you are suppose to pedal so hard that it can generate enough electricity to light the bulb, if you pedal harder even the video camera that connects to the tv in front of you starts flickering so you can see your face turn red from all the pedaling....
The only good thing I like is that it has the Omnimax theater, which is good and screens shows that are really educational, not to mention informative. Maybe occasional exhibitions from schools and talks, maybe experiments in the labs...
Discovery centre is good because it has the simulator ride, which I always look forward to and there are some interesting things to see each time I've been there. But it is super expensive for an adult to go.
Both has its pros and cons. If I were to choose I think Discovery centre is better...
Though the science centre brings back a lot of nostalgia...
