Answer: Derivative Is a financial product, which is based upon another product. Futures are based on commodities, financial indices or securities. Options are based on futures, securities or cash markets. Forwards are extensions of the cash market across time. Generally, derivatives are risk management tools, however they are also used for investment or speculative purposes. Option trading strategies They can be market directional, volatility directional, market neutral, volatility neutral, time value capture, time value payment, and numerous variants of the aforementioned. The basic building blocks are puts and calls. Futures contract It is a binding agreement between two parties to exchange a standard amount of a standard quality of goods, at a specific time and under specific terms and conditions set by the exchange. They are instruments predicated on a cash commodity or currency, a financial instrument, or an index. These are standardised contracts, which are traded on organised exchanges. The standardisation is one of the key factors, which differentiates these instruments from forward contracts.

Answer: I generally don't think so because at the end of the day it's the delta that is probably going to kill you. I guess you can envision a case where you are selling a lot of low-delta deep-out-of-the-money options where some kind of risk limit would be helpful. But I think in that case you would be looking at stress tests/scenarios.

Is there any future working as a futures or derivatives trader? What are the risk involved?

I am currently a fresh graduate with an economics degree. I couldnt decide which job offer to accept, the tough choice is between working for a well known international bank in the consumer or corporate banking department, or to train as a futures and derivatives trader with a small firm. The reward from the futures and derivatives trader position is fantastic but i understand theres a high amount of risk involved as well, therefore high risk-reward position.
Answer: Trader trainee jobs are highly desirable and hard to come by. If somebody is actually offering you a job as a trader trainee, then go for it! This is a fantastic opportunity. There is, of course, the risk that you won't be an good at at and they will let you go, but that's true with any job. Then you can look for other trading jobs, as well as jobs where a trading background is required. If you are good at it, the bonuses are huge. Don't be put off by it being a small firm. This is a business full of niche firms that nobody has ever heard of outside the business because general image advertising does them no good, unlike banks and brokers that do retail business. The risks that you have heard of with a career in trading refer to the risks of trading your own money. As an employee, you will be trading the firm's money or investment money managed by the firm. You get to learn by trading other people's money. This is why these are great jobs and hard to come by.

Answer: I'm not sure if anyone has pointed out the elephant in the room to you before, but I think the biggest challenge you are going to have with finding employment is your English ability. As for specifically finding a job in the stock market, that largely depends on what job you have in mind. For most jobs, you will need appropriate certifications, as is the case with stock brokers. Computer Engineering is not as valuable as a degree in Business or Finance for this industry. Certification aside, a market-beating portfolio certainly wouldn't hurt. I suggest you amend your question to clarify what sort of job you're looking for.

Do i need formal training to become a quant/derivatives trader?

Im currently reading The Black Swan by Nassin Nicholas Taleb and I want to become a quant or a derivatives trader like he did. I have a strong background in math - but only at a bachelor level from a Canadian university. I have loads of books on financial math and I think once I complete all of them I could maybe be a quant. But is it possible to actually get a job as a quant without any formal trading? What are the steps I would need to take to become a quant?
Answer: There are Quants and hen there are Quants. Merriwether's LTCM hired Nobel willing Meyton and Scholes as their spokes men yet the only math they used was leverage to extract a gain from the bond convergence arbitrage. When the Russians defaulted on their bonds, that sent a ripple throughout the world causing their allegedly diversified portfolio to be affected in unison losing 98% of the portfolio value. A lot of this was that they subscribed to risk management concepts such as VaR and mean variance which all suggested that extreme leverage would be reasonable. And they were critics of the ruin averse geometric mean techniques such as the Kelly Capital Growth Criterion. Then again, Meriwether had the nickname of Martingale Man for his gambling style so it's no wonder that his hedge fund would over bet and blow up. You can be a Quant and still subscribe to the wrong theories and fail. Best research on how Princeton Newport Partners did it and not follow just any alleged quant, particularly those who just use leverage and only leverage.

You need to develop a list of who's who in the derivatives market out there and see what events, if any, they might do a presentation at. Next you need to develop a 15 second introduction that will wow them and strike up a conversation. If you are lucky, you'll get that person's business card and poof there is your contact for a derivatives job.

An option is a derivative. The value of a option on Apple stock derives is value from the value of Apple stock itself. So in terms of international rates, this probably applies to foreign interest rates, such as LIBOR (London InterBank Offered Rate). You can trade futures and options contracts on LIBOR, therefore a person that would trade LIBOR derivatives would by extrapolation be an international rates derivatives trader. Granted, this is a simplistic answer, but I think you get the point.

I do a lot of pink sheet stocks and OTCs, most penny stocks and I do pretty well, and I dont even know if this applies to my plays lol. Dont know exactly what it means, if Im actually trading derivatives or not lol, so I feel kind of stupid, but I can make money and I know how to keep from getting wiped out, just not what the heck they are talking about.
Answer: I'm not sure how it would effect small cap or micro cap traders, but what it does for the derivatives market is provide more liquidity, better transparency, and it eliminates the major concerns of counterparty risk, I actually think its a good thing, and most people I know that trade in derivatives feel the same way.
