Why is it ok to eat cow and not horses in Australia?
This is going to cause a stir but recently after chatting to a bloke who has worked in a few different meatworks it made me think a bit. He had no problems with killing a cow and her calf or a lamb but when a foal came through with its mother he was devastated not realizing that they killed horses there. I am a horse lover but the thing that gets me is what really is the difference in what is been done? I wouldnt want the job of killing either and would feel equally horrible about each animals death regardless of species. Why is it illegal to consume horse meat within australia but its ok to kill and eat sooooo many poor cows. I eat meat so Im not guiltless of providing a consumer need and even if we were allowed to eat horse i wouldnt go there but why is it illegal and since when?

Answer: The world has kind of turned cattle into an industry rather than an animal - which is very sad, because they are quite lovable.
Horses have a bit of a sentimental value, for centuries they were heavily depended on and as time went by they have come to be thought of as a pet. They have never fully been thought of as part of the food industry and there hasn't been as much of a demand - most likely for the sentimental reasons, so horse slaughter has come to be seen as something cruel and unusual.
I've seen how they slaughter cattle and how they treat them beforehand - and I wish that the world would realize how disgustingly unrealistic their demand of meat is (I'm in the US and most people here consider steak a necessity to modern living...)
I'm a vegan because of inhumane slaughter practices for most animals in the food industry

i urgently need help for te begining of my speech, i am 14 almost 15. my speech is about animal slaughtering at the meatworks. my aim for the intro was to describe a scene where the audience are the cows, but i really need help with this!!!! i would so gladly appreciate your help!
You are in a paddock playing tag with your mates. Effortlessly you run, kicking your legs out behind you in sheer joy. This is your life, peaceful and without a care in the world. Little do you know that the next day, the harmony in this field will end? Men will come and take you and your friends away from your mothers. Eyes wide and frightful as you and hundreds of others are harshly crammed into the back of an overloaded truck. However loud your yelling is, it is not loud enough. Even if someone could hear you, they would not help - they do not understand the horror of which you are about to face. You will be starved, unable to move and standing in your own excretions. Yet, this is a luxury compared to what will happen the next day. Lined up in single file, you are made to move towards the front of the line. You will not want to move, you will want to turn around and run. For you can smell death hanging in the air and hear the yells of pain from those ahead. Soon it is you making the tortured noise as you reach the front. Pain jolts through your entire body, as you fall to the ground and start shaking. Yet, it is still not over. Men come and slice through your throat, covering the entire ground in blood. Your blood. Now it is over.
Hello all. thank you for your help so far, but just thought i would let you know that i did do my research- i live in New Zealand though so we work a tad differently :) but you wernt to know. all our animals are raised on farm, and you have a truck sent to your house where they will load your animals to sent them off to the meatworks. we do not have slaughter farms, thank god! But thank you for trying to help on the information side of things- it was lovley of you to take that time. :)

When cattle are slaughtered someone prays over them...What religion is the person praying?
My dad is a butcher and when I was little he worked at a meatworks and told me someone (not christian) prays over the animals as they are lead to slaughter. To me I thought it was the saddest but most beutiful thing that could be done for these poor beasts. What religion is it that believes this must be done and what do they actually prey? Ive just moved near a meatworks and every time I see a cattle truck taking these animals there I feel awful for them and prey for them and feel so sorry too.

Most think Rabbis pray over slaughtered animals to make it kosher, that's wrong. Rabbis are at some slaughterhouses to ensure the animal is fit to be consumed by Jews and the process is according to kashrut rules.
btw: the Islamic imans aren't praying for the cow, they're praying that the meat be fit for Muslims to consume.

Im sorry, i should have know your reading skills wernt that great...... as for scaring people- all i need is a dramatic start, nothing boring. calves do play tag- i live on a farm and at dusk they frollek around and chase each other. NZ makes ALOT of meat. Suprising enopugh, most people dont fully understand the horror of it all. the cows are frightened. direct quote from Mr. Elen "as the cows smelt the blood from others killed before them they went ballistic". and i think a cow would know whether they where being starved or not, or whether an electric cattle prod hurt- no creature is that dumb. And suprisingly enough it is law that all animals in NZ must be deemed unconsious before having thier throats slit. and no, the blood goes onto the ground. thank you for your time, but please dont coment unless you know what you are talking about :)

Answer: Im not sure about a meatworks near penrith but they use to be in Riverstone near railway line, it close in 1995. Most are in cou nrty areas now I think, you could try calling the Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union to ask where the Meat works are now located.
