2011 Canadian federal election rigged.?
It seems like the Conservatives and the NDP made a backroom deal to defeat the liberals. It also appears to be rigged.
One would explain the Liberal loss in Toronto like this:
1. The NDP became popular in Quebec.
2. This led to people in the GTA to believe that the NDP might have a chance to govern. So:
i. Liberal voters switched to the NDP deciding to give them a chance which led to them being elected or splitting the vote giving the Conservatives a seat.
ii. NDP supporters who vote liberal strategically decided to vote NDP again causing 1 of the 2 scenarios.
iii. Some Liberal voters decided to vote Conservative in order to stop the NDP
Ok - but how did the NDP get Quebec. If they dont vote for the Bloc, they vote tory. How did they go from 1 seat to 60 in the province that has no provincial NDP.
If you analyze GTA ridings, a lot of results are different than expected. Take Oak-Ridges Markham, it was expected to be a close liberal - conservative match like 2008. But Calandra got a majority in that riding with 51%. Temelkovksi went down from 52% in 2004 to 47% in 2006 to 42% in 2008 to 28% in 2011. The NDP did gain 7% but since it was a majority, it didnt really matter. Was there rigging.
Lets look at Don Valley East. A liberal seat since 1993 and majority till 2006. Thought to be safe this time. But the Conservatives won by 2.2% this time. The NDP jumped by 11.78% which is explained by the Quebec thing - but how did they get Quebec.
Finally, lets look at Etobicoke—Lakeshore. Liberal since 1993. Held by Ignatieff himself since 2006. Nobody expected him to loose. But he lost by 5.27%. Leaders dont loosetheirr seat unless something drastic happens.
They are being led by one of Canadas smartest man. They have a financialy sensible platformm (unlike layton) which cares about the middle class (unlike Harper).
Plus Harper hates Toronto so how will he get any seats there without rigging?
Answer: There was no rigging what so ever. I can see where you are coming from, seeing as the results were absolutely incredible [conservative majority, NDP coming out of no where].
However, there is a simple answer to it, besides assuming it's rigged, and just shaking your finger at any other answer. It's been said already: the conservatives and the NDP made up on the Liberal loss. Because of a weak campaign, and an ineffective leader, Liberal voters came to a stand still: vote conservative, or vote NDP. Seeing as the Liberal Party of Canada is becoming more and more centered (as to being a left-wing party), many Liberals voted Conservative, especially the right-wing Liberals.
Basically, the Liberal Party lost an incredible amount of votes to the Conservatives (because many Liberals rather Harper than Layton) and NDP gained incredible amounts of votes at the decline of the Bloc. Therefor, the Conservative Party simply came up the middle to win a majority, with an NDP opposition.
Fortunately, there was absolutely no rigging of the election. Just vote turnout

Who do you think will win the 2011 Canadian Election?
I very much hope that it will either be NDP or Green. If Stephen Harper wins I will shoot myself. What do you think? Does NDP have a fair chance? Or will Canadians make a mistake? Merci beacoup et bon jour
Answer: As much as it pains me to admit, Harper will win again. Despite all the shady and downright deceitful actions of the Conservative Party, and despite the fact that his social and economic policies are not compatible with the average Canadian, he will win. It's not even because the majority of Canadians support him. The truth is that 65% of us do not.
The problem is that if you are right-leaning, you have one choice - the Conservatives. If you are left-leaning, you have three choices - the Libs, NDP, and Green. It's that vote-splitting that has handed seats to the Conservatives with only 35% of the votes. For this election, I would love to see Canadians evaluate which party has the best chance at beating the Conservative candidate in their riding, and vote for that party. If you normally vote NDP, but the Liberal candidate has the best chance of beating the Conservative, vote Liberal. Same thing goes if the NDP has the best chance, (or Elizabeth May, the only real Green hope).
Anything but Harper

NDP Minority?
Answer: Harper gets a Mulroney styled shaming with 2 seats in the House and leaves for the US within the week and we never have to hear him again
NDP form the official opposition and liberals get a slim majority government

NDP 2011 Fun Pack Song | Hpility Story

what was NDP going to do for the economy if they won the 2011 election?
I need to get this question answered ASAP.. or by Sunday May 8th, 2011.
I cant find the answer on Google... :(
Thanks to all who try to answer this one.
Answer: I really don't think you will find an answer on this.
The NDP platform was all about giving and taxing. Giving, giving, giving to special interest groups, to organizations to training nurses and doctors. They were going to pump TONS of money out of Ottawa to fulfil their promises. It seems like every time Jack turned around he was promising to shower everyone with cash. No wonder everybody liked him. I was almost thinking it would be fun to have him as PM...Yay!!! Free stuff!!!!
But let's get real.
They were going to fund the expenses with increased taxes to businesses, to corporations. Also by a "cap and trade" program that would work like a carbon tax, only sound more responsible. Cap and trade has failed in other countries and would have increased ALL prices especially gas prices enormously. Jack did say that he was going to bring in benefits for "small" businesses. So mom and pop operations would not have to suffer, just the big "evil" corporations and businesses.
The NDP is union friendly, it gets much of its funding from unions and many of the new MPs are union bosses. Unions know how to squeeze business to get every drop of blood they can out of them.
So sadly to say, I don't know how the NDP would help the economy. It seems to me that the average working Canadian would see his taxes rise exponentially and corporations would be pushed to the breaking point. I was expecting that many would go bankrupt, be forced into downsizing or have to leave the country. How could that help the economy?
Sure there would be a little flush of activity as people rushed out and spent the windfall of cash, but it would be short lived. No money would be generated. You need industry to do that. We have to make money and not just be a parasite on the host, because what in the hell are we going to do if the host is killed?
It's all about balance.
With the NDP there was only spend, spend, spend.
But you know...the NDP did not intend to win, so they could say whatever they wanted, promise whatever they wanted. Nobody ever questioned them. They never had to take responsibility for their promises.
The end of freedom and democracy is when the electorate learns that it can vote for whoever promises to give them the nation's wealth. They then become slaves to the government when they depend on handouts to live.
Democracy cannot exist unless the electorate is informed and holds their elected officials accountable.
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Good luck on your quest for truth.

Why Should I vote for NDP New Democratic Party ELECTIONS 2011 HELP?
Why should I vote for NDP. What can NDP do that other parties cannot do? Please help this is a project on NDP, and I dont know how to answer that. BAsically why should NDP win the election. WHy should other parties NOT win the election???
Answer: The NDP has a history of fighting for the the average person not the rich. They are good on Health care and the Environment also.
http://www.ndp.ca/platform
Ignatieff can't be trusted -he spent too much time in the U.S.A. and doesn't even show up for votes in the house.
Conservatives have poor record on health care and the environment and only really care for rich people

In 2011 Canadian election, I voted strategically, not emotionally. Did I do the right thing?
I (really) want NDPs Jack Layton to win (oppositional party), but in Canada we can only vote for our areas ridings. In my area, I trust Peter Fonseca(Liberal) more than Waseem Ahmed(NDP). Was voting for Fonseca the right choice if I distrust Waseem Ahmed?
p.s. This question isnt about which is a better party. Rather, its about what is the "correct" way to vote in the spirit of Canadian democracy (oxymoron I know).
@Love.Canada
But do you at least trust ur NDP riding? I honestly dont think Ahmed will 1.Win 2. Do a good job. If I thought Ahmed would do a decent job, I wouldve voted for NDP straight off the bat. But the fact that after hours digging I only know 2 sentences about him shows how unprepared he is for this election.
[Waseem is an account manager for an IT company, Supra Canada Technologies Ltd., in Toronto. Born in India, he currently lives in Mississauga and is committed to social justice and equality.]
See? I dont even know what his stance is on certain issues. A 2 line biography, no posters in my area save 1 or 2, him and his creepy frown on his page, I just dont trust that guy.
Actually, Im glad I didnt vote for him, as much as I want Jack Layton to be the oppositional government. If anybody asks, Ill just say I voted against Harper, and that will be good enough =P
I hope NDP have better candidates in other areas than mine. Preferably NDP will win more seats this year, f
@Adiemus 【ツ】
"So each vote for NDP gives them more money to use to grow their party."
Thats interesting, I havent heard of public financing working that way before.
Answer: In all honesty it doesn't matter because the Conservatives will win the election and form the government.
Frankly, if given the choice, I would vote for a politician I trust over one I didn't given a direct vote as that politician will reperesent my riding. Remember, you would have closer ties to your local candidate, if they are elected, than Layton or Ignatieff (neither of whom, by the way, who will be PM)
I think you voted the right way given the scenario you presented.

Why is it we have no Opposition party in this nation ?We will be in Afganistan 2011 now ?
Her Majestys loyal opposition which could bring down the government at any time took a stand on Afganistan
We should not have our Armed forces in combat and that is that We leave at the end of the term Feb 2009 and let other NATO nations conduct combat
Well - they caved - the liberals who are Her Majestys Loyal opposition caved in and supported the government to do what they wanted and ignored the people of Canada again
In the US the Democrats are complicit in all the problems and policys of the Republicans and now it seems we are no better off here - The liberals are complicit in all policys of the Conservatives
--------------
Where did the opposition party go ?
Do I have to vote for the labour party (NDP) to get an opposition ?
Answer: I'm in the U.S. and I know how you feel. To me both parties we have here suck. I wish another large sized 3rd party with views more in the middle of Conservatism and Liberalism could rise up and take an election.
To me it sounds like the "Her Majesty's Loyal opposition" party sounds a lot like our Dems.

Who do you think will win the Canadian Federal election 2011?
Well, as you may or may not know, Canada is having a federal election in May 2011. I just wanted to see how good Canadians are at predicting winners. So, choose which party you think will win. The first right answer on May 2nd is the best answer. There are 6 choices, and you can only choose 1. These are the choices:
1: Conservatives
2: Liberals
3: NDP (New Democrat Party)
4: Bloc Quebecois
5: Green Party
6: Whos Canada?
GOOD LUCK!
Answer: Minority conservative government

Whats the relationship between the popular votes and seats in the Canadian federal election?
The seats that go to NDP, for instance, have changed dramatically in 2011 election. Yet the popular votes didnt change that much. How do the government decide the seats for each party?
Answer: It also has to do with the fact that ridings are approximately divided up by population. Rural areas have much larger ridings (ex. the 3 Territories are each a riding unto themselves, Labrador, northern Quebec, the north half of Manitoba, etc.) whereas urban areas are divided up into much smaller areas (ex. Toronto alone is divided into 30-something ridings)
So even though any of those Toronto ridings would have a population larger than all of Nunavut, they would both count for just 1 seat. Thus seats that come from less populated areas count equally towards the house of commons, but count for far less in the popular vote. Likewise, densely populated ridings account for a larger chunk of the popular vote while still representing just 1 seat.

The reason for the Canada NDPs loss?
Hello everyone,
Could someone please tell me the real reason for the loss of NDP canada in the 2011 federal election. Please help because ive been researching for hours but I couldnt find the reason!
Thanks in advance.
But why did the lose to the conservatives? NDP had real good social media campaigning...is the reason because they chose some inexperienced MPs?
Answer: There isn't any reason for their loss - because they didn't lose. The NDP is now the official Opposition, which is a huge gain for them. They knocked off Liberal after Liberal in Quebec, so in a real sense, they WON that election, even though they didn't form the new government. A lot of people didn't expect them to do as well as they did.
It was the Liberals that lost that election, including the Leader of that party, Michael Ignatieff, who lost his own seat.
The NDP has never formed a government federally, and has never been the official Opposition federally before; so it really is a victory for them.
