How do I know if my smoke detector is a photoelectric sensor or ion sensor?
We have a Lifesaver brand Serial Number 2673412, model number 1275. It was installed when the house was built in 1998.

my photoelectric sensor on my outside lights keep making them go off and on every 30 seconds or so.....?
did it get installed wrong or something?? has anyone ever heard or seen a defective one do this before? how do I fix it or should I just get a new one? thanks
Answer: This frequently happens. The sensor notices "it's dark" and turns on the light. Now the sensor says "oh, it's light!" and turns off the light. Repeat... Even street lights do this sometimes, if there's a window or something that reflects its light back up to the sensor.
You need to aim the sensor at the sky, or some other direction that the lights do not illuminate. And/or, turn down the sensitivity. Category: Other - Electronics
Can someone please explain to me how the Photoelectric effect works for door sensors?
Answer: A photon (light) hits a piece of metal and pops off an electron, which can be detected. So the door sensor sends a stream of light and notices when it stops and rings a bell or whatever. Category: Physics

An old photoelectric smoke detector plugs in to a ceiling outlet, but the model # is gone. How can I get one?
The companys name is barely legible...something like Sensor Technologies, but I cant find a company with that name on the Internet. This detector has a plug that looks like a printer cable connection--9 or 10 pins that go into another from the ceiling.
Answer: Most electronics have manuals/directions on their websites. Try the manufacturer's website and if you can't find it, try an electronics retailer like Circuit City. They have a very extensive website that includes brand name reviews by customers as well as all kinds of other helpful information. Good luck! Category: Other - Electronics

type of sensor?
In packaging i want to sens photo mark on paper for that i used photoelectric sensor. Now the problem is, when wrinkels are availble on paper at that time sensor sens that wrinkel insted of photomark so that action (which is control by that sensor) takes place at wrong position. so can any one suggest me that which type of sensor i can use for this application. If possible then please give me make and code number of sensor
Answer: hey.. this is a very critical condition that u have mentioned.
u have several options like
1. U can use the vision sensor.. but those are very costly
2. U can use a distance sensor with having mm range. when the wrinkle is there.. the distance will b different.. and for that u can use the banner sensor.. s18.. s 30 etc
and if the distance measured suggest u tht its not accurate.. i mean no wrinkle.. use the photo sensor..
if it reads different distance.. then pass the fault signal Category: Engineering

How do Eco Drive Watches (Light Powered) work?
I am trying to research photoelectric sensors like the ones they use in watches. I cannot find any information on them. I am wondering how much energy they can produce in a period of time, how much they cost, and the companies that make them. Any other information about these sensors would be great! Thank you!
Answer: Well, they aren't photoelectric sensors. They are photovoltaic cells. Photoelectric sensors are passive devices that change their electrical resistance when struck by photons. Photovoltaic calls are active devices that generate electricity. Here are some links I found on Google to get you started. Category: Other - Electronics

Need Help to Choose a Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Detector?
Hey everyone
Im moving to a new apartment in Montgomery County (Maryland) and I want to get a new smoke/carbon monoxide detector. I never bought one before and I have no idea which brand is good or anything...
My new house already has a wired smoke detector and I kind of want to upgrade it. Its a one story three-bedroom condo (1000 square feet) and it uses electricity except for the water heater which uses natural gas.
I read a lot of reviews and I know I want to have both smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. I also want to use hard wire devices with backup battery. I want a smoke detector with dual sensor (Ionization + Photoelectric).
I looked at amazon.com and I found out that all the combo devices (smoke/carbon) only uses Ionization sensors and there isnt any combo device that uses dual sensors for the smoke.
So, in your experience, should I buy two separate detectors (1 dual-sensor smoke + 1 carbon monoxide) or should I only buy a combo detector (smoke/carbon) with a regular Ionization sensor and just forget the Photoelectric sensor?
Also, can you suggest a brand that you know is good?
I dont really care about the price and my main concern is safety.
I really appreciate your helps and suggestions
Answer: "kidde" brand is good..they make a combo smoke / c.o. detecter that just runs on a battery so it can located anywhere,as opposed to having it at an outlet and occupy that outlet.[ that can be inconvenient ]....it has 2 seperate sounds for smoke and c.o. ...it also has a voice that tells you which one its sounding an alarm for.... available at home depot and similar stores........ what r "photoelectric proximity sensors"?
Answer: They detect the presence of an object by reflected light.
The most common, and lowest cost use IR (InfraRed light).
If you have trouble finding them using the "photoelectric" term, try just using "IR sensor" or "IR position sensor" in a search and you will find all sorts of things. IR sensors are often used at distances form a few inches to about 30 feet. The IR transmitter, the sensor, and the relay, come together in a ready to go package that will turn on some electric power when you get near it. Or trigger a burglar alarm... Or move a robot... How can you blind infrared or night vision cameras?
Ive heard that if a CCTV camera that operates on a photoelectric sensor is exposed to infrared LEDs, it will be overwhelmed and will present the image as an opaque white light. Is there any way this type of interference can be done with night vision or infrared cameras, and if so, how?
Answer: Are you planning an illegal activity for which you need to disable CCTV? I cant tnink of any other reason anyone would want to know how to disable the equipment. Im surprised anyone would offer tips on how to do this. Advice on how to do things like this are how events like 9-11 are made possible. Category: Cameras

Best smoke detector for my needs?
Ideally would like to find a smoke detector that has these capabilities:
120V w 9v backup - not just 9v
Dual ionization and photoelectric sensors
Ability to interconnect to other units
NOT First Alert
I dont see units like this at Lowes or Home Depot - online or in the store. To me it seems ideal, that in a basement I may want just one type, bedrooms and other areas, both types.
Either why arent these produced, or where are some shopping links to them?

I have been searching everywhere and I couldnt seem to find the right one. Most of the stores carry the ionization one instead of the photoelectric one with tamper-proof feature. I desperately need this for the home day-care fire inspection. Please help me and Ill really appreciate it. Thank you!
Answer: Here you go, there's quite a few places.

Motion Detection - what is the best sensor, when the view is blocked?
A photoelectric sensor wont work as the person is blocked from view of the sensor. Can i use ultrasonic or some other sensor to notice that someone has entered the room?
Answer: Maybe magnetic type could also be used.
You could also use thermal imaging sensor. Category: Engineering
