What is the meaning of spatial and intuitive thinking?

Answer: Well, Intuitive Thinking leads to an ever-expanding artistic awareness, understanding, and the correct use of the separate and distinct functions of the Right Brain and Left Brain in art. The correct use of BOTH sides of the brain. The term "Right Brain" is synonymous and interchangeable with "Intuition", and "Left Brain" with "Intellect". What's more, Intuitive Thinking is not a theory, but a reality, and is a mental skill that can be learned by anyone wishing to experience its far-reaching powers. It goes much, much deeper than visually tricking the Right Brain into action! Intuitive thinking means learning to use your NATURAL thinking capabilities properly. Try this:http://intuitivethinking.com/ As for the spatial thinking, it involves analysis, problem solving, and pattern prediction involving objects and their spatial relationships. It can involve geometry and geometric thinking, mathematical transformation of information, engineering and architecture, astronomy, geography, informatics, modeling, video gaming, and the arts. Im having trouble grasping the spatial and time concepts of astronomy in my intro college class, advice?

Its an intro class that I am taking for my physical science general, but I have a hard time grasping it visually sometimes even with demonstrations. Also, I think the time, distance and speed are hard to truly understand too since Earth (and the Milky Way in general) is so small compared to everything I know. Any general tips for understanding the class material better?
Answer: It is a very hard thing to visualise. I don't think anyone will ever be able to truly grasp the sheer size of the Universe. There are several size comparison videos, of which this is the best I have ever seen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?fmt=22&annotation_id=annotation_902471&feature=iv&v=2FwCMnyWZDg It zooms right out from the dwarf planets up to the whole observable universe. Hope it helps you as much as it helped me! Edit: Ooh ooh, this one is pretty good for other scales! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2U_ZYqlry8&feature=related

Could this affect my spatial reasoning ability?

I am only 19, but I had a stroke when I was 18 in 2007 and a quarter of the left hemisphere of my cerebellum is "dead." Ive noticed that, especially lately, when I drive at night, I get REALLY on edge and nervous. I find it hard to trust myself because it seems that cars are closer than they actually are or farther than they actually are from me. Could my stroke have affected my spatial reasoning, do you think?
Answer: I don't really know, but have you had your vision checked? Difficulty seeing at night and having difficulty in determining distance is suggestive of a visual problem, such as near-sightedness and astigmatism. Corrective glasses may be all that you need.

What are some career fields for someone with good "spatial reasoning" skills and weak "verbal reasoning"?

Whenever I take any IQ tests I seem to have pretty strong spatial reasoning skills (the ability to think in 3d). However, my verbal skills are very poor. It takes forever for me to even begin to remember a new word or phrase. What are some careers that could work for me? I already finished a degree in Computer Networking and that requires way too much terminology, so that is out of the question. Does anyone have any other ideas?
Answer: Graphics design, interior design, and any of the visual arts would be good places to start. Web design might not be a bad idea either except that line of work is very saturated these days and it's not easy to find work. Landscape design is an up-and-coming line of work, especially with golf courses and country clubs. Some of the engineering feilds might be a good match, too, as long as it deals with spatial relationships (engineering for roadways, drainage systems, etc) instead of mechanics or electrical.

Answer: Why don't you just major in engineering? Visualization is important in some areas of engineering, especially those areas that deal with three dimensional objects such as civil and mechanical engineering.

why do art and math/science use spatial reasoning but areconsidered very different fields and ways of thinking?

You never hear people say art and math go hand in hand, and you often hear that both use different sides of the brain, yet some sources say those good at spatial reasoning are good at a lot of science and mathematic fields and also art.
Answer: Well, both are very abstract. It's a common misconception that math is straight forward, and as cold as it is. Not everything is a = b. There are some things in math that require a lot of understanding, that goes beyond being able to plug things into an equation. That said, they are different. And the art you are referring to isn't really art. By spacial things, they mean being able to see when a shape was shifted, or being able to do puzzles really well, and things like that.

What are some science courses which rely or implement visual/spatial thinking? Does Biochemistry?

I am taking organic chemistry and ,although it is not the entirety of the course, the ability to visualize reactions is incredibly useful,if not basic. What are some other science courses that make spatial thinking key? I am taking biochemistry and would like to know if that is. I am a biochemistry major looking to take courses such as physiology, cell signaling, genetics, cellular biology, neurobiology etc., so I would like to know especially about these courses but I am also open to new suggestions.
Answer: Cellular biology, cell signaling, and biochemistry are all such classes. I am also a biochemistry major, and the class that has had the most impact on my ability to visualize molecules is Inorganic chemistry, which I am taking just as an elective. Any class in which it is necessary to think in 3 dimensions is helpful or visual/spatial thinking.

Answer: I'm a male and I think spatially in some areas and auditory in others but ways of thinking dosent really have any relevance to gender it usually depends on the individual if you are an auditory thinker that's what you are but to answer your question if you are a female and you're thinking spatially then obviously a female can think spatially

If thinking thoughts enabled ideas to become spatial?

What observable effects would one expect see in our universe? Then let me clearify, I mean strictly spatial not substantial in form but only is terms of increasing upon the spacial structure of the universe itself and not to include material manifestations. Where I seek to ask what observations would you expect if ideas increased space but not time nor matter nor energy. Thanks Yaoi for making me clearify my hypothetical thought experiement. Thanks pinkfluf I will go further and say that what is often called the "farbic of space/time" my idea seeks to inquire what observations we would expect if ideas became space/time fabric after having been thought of? If that helps to narrow my thought any. Also keep in mind that there is really no way to be wrong and I will even share my what I would I have concluded if this were what happens in reality. I would expect that we would be able to observe something that would be comparable to the dark energy in cosmology. Though I am not inclined to say that this is anything but an interesting idea as to the possible explantion of why the universe seems to be dominated by this type of energy.
Answer: I suppose in terms of volition to do or create something then thoughts can become spatial, though I suspect this is not what you are driving at! I think this throws up more interesting questions than answers. Would the ideas then be independent of the thinker? Would they interact with each other or only with us/the environment? What spatial form could abstract concepts such as love and hate take? If these took the form of some kind of energy field (no idea what I'm talking about here, I'm a psychologist!) then I guess they would have some effect on people exposed to them. If ideas about things and people and scenarios took an apparently tangible form I think it would be absolute chaos. I'm assuming the effects would be largely on the inhabitants of the universe rather than on the non-sentient structure of the universe that I know very little about. But...thought apparently (via functional imaging evidence) requires energy to occur. My dim understanding of physics leads me to believe that energy cannot disappear. So maybe you can argue (in an abstract way) that ideas are spatial. Interesting :)

I need a copy of this test or any card test about mental rotation. Thanks
Answer: I tried to find what you wanted and did not it. I saw two references, one to THURSTONE, not "Thurnstone", since Thurstone was an early worker in the development of IQ tests and had a theory of intelligence that included spatial ability. Tests of spatial ability are included in the Stanford-Binet and the WAIS. There are tests of spatial ability available through the internet. Take your pick. I used www.metacrawler.com and I search for "Spatial tests" or "spatial abilities tests". I found many references.
