This is my personal statement please give me your views, you dont have to be nice! Just be honest I want opinions
The best thing about the future is that it only comes one day at a time - Abraham Lincoln. Imagine our world without photography, the world would be a different place. We see photographs wherever we look. DVD covers, food packaging. Without photography we wouldnt have television and computers, stuff that people depend on for work and play.
From a young age my parents knew Id be the creative one; I enjoyed everything, from playing in the mud and making sandcastles to drawing pretty pictures, taking photos, making my own movies to making cakes for family and friends. This was how I had fun, not by staying in my room playing computer games.
At school I knew exactly what I wanted to do taking GCSEs in Drama, Art and Design Technology. I studied Photography, Drama and Media for AS and now, in my second year, I have selected art as an additional AS subject to broaden my portfolio. I have completed my Duke of Edinburghs award Bronze walking 15 miles over Dartmoor and doing 3 months physical activity, 3 months volunteering and 6 months of skill. And I am now in the process of my silver award - I have already done my practise, involving walking over Ex-moor for 30 miles, which I am very proud of. Another accomplishment Im also proud of was being involved in the Youth Speaks competition, our team went to the semi finals.
My school has contacts with schools all over the world and I had the amazing opportunity to go to Singapore in September 2009. Singapore for me which for me, was seeing Asia in 10 days, with so many different ethnicities in one country, we experienced as many cultures as possible, and I made really good friends on that trip. And will stay in contact with as many as I can for as long as I can.
In December 2009 I took a leading role in my schools Pantomime which involved the commitment of coming in after school and at weekends. I have recently taken part in a play for people in the Siblings Project (a group in school that does activitys for students whose siblings have problems like AD-HD and autism.) In preparation, I had to interview young children who have had really challenging starts in life. - This is a skill I can take with me into a future career. I have been working with the Eden Project press liaison, film making and making events- I am currently in the process of organising a Fashion Show. Doing projects make me, me.
For inspiration, I look to fashion photographer Nigel Barker, who took a levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics and then went to study Medicine. He became a model for 10 years. And now he is a photographer. This shows me that people should really do what they want in life. I believe people should choose something theyre passionate about, something what they love doing.
My main goal in life is to have a career I love. I also have the desire to travel the world. I like the idea of helping as many people as I can, I would love to go to South Africa and help children, prostitutes and homeless people have a better life - even if it just involves putting a smile on their face. I could use my photographic skills With my photography skills to capture images that have a real awareness of how the disadvantaged live in these countries.
Answer: It is interesting but far too long. If someone has dozens of personal statements to read through, he is only going to glance at the first paragraphs of yours and skip the rest. There is too much padding. For example, your second last paragraph should be reduced to the final sentence (and omit the word "what"). Nigel Barker's biography is not relevant. This is YOUR personal statement.
Condense it to the essence, and it will be much more effective.

Best places for student travel in Malaysia?
Im an 18 year old student, looking to do some travelling over my summer break with a friend. Were considering Malaysia/Thailand/Singapore. We want to stay in youth hostels and move around every few days. If anyone has been to this corner of the world, do you have any suggestions for places to go, or tips for travelling in this area?

(You didn't specify for how long you will be there. So I assume you have enough budget and time to travel)
To travel around all states in Malaysia would be very difficult because it will cost much money and time. So, it depends on what kind of places you would like to visit.
Shoppers paradise? islands and beaches? highlands? national park? historical? taste Malay cuisines? etc...

Islands - Langkawi, Redang, Perhentian, Sipadan (depends on what activities you seek).

Lately news on the Straits Time highlighted shortage of beds for old folks in Tan Tock Seng General Hospital. As such majorities are being sent home to recuperate and die eventually without proper care. These government aided hospitals dont make a lot of money out of these old folks. Old people in Singapore are being heavily subsidized by the country. So most of the beds are reserved for able-paying patients. It is indeed very hipocritical. Keeping a foreign worker youth in hospital for ten days and chalked up a medical bill of more than SIN$12,000.00 for removal of appendicitis is how they make money. I wonder if this act is justifying.
Answer: That's really strange and don't think simple appendix surgery would cost 12K. There could be some other reasons.

For the other question on subsidized medical for old folks, i'd say in Singapore the old folks deserve much more. The hospital charges are really higher for old folks here.

Answer: How nice! Yes, that's a great idea to ask for his jersey! Maybe exchange email addresses to keep in contact so you don't have long distance charges on your cell phone and definitely offer him a ride to the airport although he might already have plans to go as a group with his teammates.
