Career confusion... Software, MCSE, CCNA or any other IT certification?? what to choose?
Hi.
I am BCA student from Ignou. My BCA was supposed to be finished by last year 2007 but it got stretched and am still taking 5 backlog exams. Moreover, I dont have throughout 60% in my academics. I did a certificate course in java n j2ee from New Horizons, Delhi.
Now, actually am not sure which stream should I opt to make my career in it. Sometimes I think to go for software development as am good in programing and already developed 2 small freelance projects using java and j2ee (servlets). But then my academics comes in focus and haunts me, as for software you need throughout 60% and a degree completed on time. Now, I have a cousin brother, who has been working in IT industry, as a Security Professional at Singapore for the past 13 years, suggests me to go for MCSE certification to get started. As my degree wont matter here. He also suggested me CCNA but MCSE first. He said that if I am going for software with these qualifications, I wont get more out of it.
Now, this is what my confusion is, although am good at technical front but my formal degree is affecting my future. I am actually confused and not sure what should I do to get started, adding to it the current slowdown of economy resulting in job cuts.
Please suggest me whether MCSE is a good option or should I go for CCNA first. Or should I stick with software, and in case of software, please suggest the available options for me.
Please note that am not afraid of hard work but just want to ensure that I choose the right decision after consulting with experts. I am ready to go for any certification, like MCSE or CCNA, but are they good for start or software is good for my profile. If you have any other certification in mind, please let me know and also point out a reason for it, if possible.
Please suggest whatever you can, as you may be doing it for 10 points but for me its my career.

Answer: MCSE and CCNA are two totally different things. MCSE is more about setting up Microsoft servers and CCNA is about setting up Cisco switches/routers, this is a very basic description.
Nothing to worry about go for any of it i think CCNA has better option as per my knowledge.

Answer: One thing is certain. You must check the particular second university you plan on attending before you take your correspondent bca. Lots will not accept it at all. Lots will not accept all of it. You must check it out before you do it. You can probably find somewhere that will. Maybe it meets your needs, maybe not.

Actually I have posted this question on number of forums and got no and in fact "earn online" kind of responses. This is my first try here and my last hope to get cleared my doubt.
I am BCA student from Ignou. My BCA was supposed to be finished by 2007 but it got stretched and am still taking 4 backlog exams. Moreover, I dont have throughout 60% in my academics. Xth 62%, XIIth 55 and Graduation- still not completed.
I did a certificate course in java n j2ee from New Horizons, Delhi.

Just a note to add here that I am not financially sound so wont be investing again and again on doing courses. Just a last time investment is possible from my family and I want that next time I take care of my financial needs myself.
Its possible that I may get suggestions for a regular MCA from anyone of you, but I cant go for a regular one now, as my finances are not enough to catch up and also I have to start a job as soon as possible to provide my family financial support.

Answer: i think with ur educational background it'll be good if u try hardware and networking, which also has mcse and ccna. these qualifications are well to get a job. and then continue with cisco's other certifications like cwna, ccnp etc. which has a good demand in market. with this join a correspondence degree course or regular low grade colleges which didn't bother abt ur attendance. i think graduation is not imp if u have good knowledge and experience in mcse & ccna. but i think u should do it..it helps in good jobs and for growth....if u have any question further ask me...

I have 3 years experience in HR field so I am looking for HR Related jobs in Singapore. Can anyone help me? Or any one refers for the jobs in Singapore? Answer: The thing is - Singapore (or any other country) is authorized to bring in other country workers only when their own citizens are not available in that particular field of work. Singapore has lack of skilled people in IT and Construction field, so it outsources from other parts of world.
But in HR, which doesn't need people with specialised skills like latest software knowledge or technology, there is no need for Singapore employers to spend time and money in hiring a person from some other country (there is a lot of paperwork inclved). They might as well pick a Singaporean citizen.
I hope you understand what I am saying. You know that IT people are wanted in USA because their own citizens do not spend money in IT education (it's very expensive) and thus US companies are forced to look outside their countries for skilled labour. But I would bet that if you try for a HR job in USA it would be next to impossible to get, because it doesn't come under the skilled category where US companies are unauthorized to bring in workers from other countries. It's the same case in any first-world country.
If you are very keen to work in Singapore, the best route is - go for a one-year masters course in Singapore, at the end of it you will offered a chance to get PR (Permanent Residentship). Using that you can easily get job there.
