Union Pacific RailRoad Conductor, can they obtain internet access on their laptops in the cab?
Does the cab have a hook up or could a person use a wireless connection and take their laptop? I ask b/c I am thinking seriously about taking a conductor job and this will be a major source of entertainment in the cab. Also , is there a convient spot to lay the laptop and say watch a ball game or are you pretty much confined to resting it on your lap? thanks
Answer: Radios, TV, laptops, all forbidden. When on the train, you're not there to be entertained. You are working.
Not only that, you are responsible for the safety of your train and the public. Vigilance is paramount to the safe conduct of your train. You cannot be on the lookout with your nose pasted against a monitor screen.
If caught. you can entertain yourself with your laptop in the unemployment line...
Railroading is not a game. It is a hot/cold, exhausting, demanding job with awesome responsibility attached. Screw up out there and people don't get the wrong size of French fries with their order.

How fast should my internet be? When I am Downloading things it is usually 50-55Kb/s?
In Network Connections I check the speed and it says 100.0Mbps how fast should it be going? I am with Pacific Internet and I am currently paying 70/month which i think is too much for the speed that im getting. Please help
Answer: on google search for "Internet Speed Test" it will take you to one of the website where you can check your Internet Speed.
50-55kb/s is definitely low speed. Note that 100.mbps is how much your computer card can transfer, it's not your internet speed.
You may check firewall and virus software but if they ok than you may want to have someone from your internet provider take a look at it. $70.00 definately deserves at least 20mbps download.
** checked your internet company's website and this is definitely too costly for speed they are giving from 3MB p/s to 6MB p/s download. You may want to find different internet provider.

Does Cathay Pacific have internet service on its international flights?
Pretty self-explanatory. Gonna be catching an international flight from Toronto to Hong Kong, and wondering if there will be internet access that I could connect to wirelessly using an iPad.
So, does Cathay Pacific have internet on its international flights?
Answer: No they do not at the present time. They will sometime in 2012 offer a high speed 50mb wifi connection. They are one of the few airlines that does have power ports in all classes on most of their planes, you can use and charge your iPad, but can't connect to the internet.

Can you get internet service in the middle of the Pacific Ocean?
I am in the Navy. Soon I will be stationed on a ship which will be in the Pacific a lot. There is internet on the ship for work, but I was wondering if I could get internet on my own laptop over there while underway. Thanks.
Answer: Sprint Mobile Broadband and Cingular (AT&T)'s Edge are the two things you can use to get wireless internet on your laptop, but they work by using bandwidth from cellular networks. There are no cell phone towers in the middle of the Pacific, so you won't be able to get internet service. Unless they have something like that on the ship, you're out of luck.

Is there any other alternatives? As ive read throught the internet and the system that they give is really reliable. Perhaps its just that they give the wrong settings. They shoulndt have sell it if they dont know anything about it
Answer: PacNet. One of the worst isp in Singapore. Besides, they are only a reseller with poor service attitude. Glad I terminated my account with them 2 years ago. Too bad you are suckered into a contract with penalties. Complain to IDA, give the petty bureaucrats sometime to file.

Pacific island with high speed internet?
Can anyone suggest any pacific island besides hawaii which has stable high speed(or at least 128kb) internet connection available?
Thank you for your time.
and by the way i mean polynesian islands and internet for private use not in hotels or internet cafes.
Answer: I dont know of any providers, but you should get it in cities, but I dont think each individual island has an internet connection. you would need a connection between islands, either a satellite or fiber undersea cables. you would have more chances with mobile global internet, but there are limits and its expensive. you cannot use P2P download (torrents), no major downloads, even streaming can be an issue, online playing wont work cause it takes about a second for information to travel to a satellite and back to you and that will slow down the response in gaming. and if you overload the line, it can take 24 hours to fix itself. this is mostly for web browsing and emailing. I was looking for similiar ideas for travelling in deserts and oceans, but its not a very handy thing.
