Has anyone ever used these hunting scopes?
Nikon Monarch 5-20x44SF
Nikon Buckmasters 6-18x40 SF
I would like to know if anyone has used ether of these scopes.
Which do you prefer?
Did you like them?
How much did you pay for the scope?
Does the BDC (Bullet Drop Compensating) Reticle really work?
I will be using the scope on a savage model 12 bvss in .223
Answer: I have a Nikon Buckmasters 4-12X50 on my Remington 700 VTR in .308.... It is decently accurate and has been an absolute pleasure to own.... I cant say I have used those exact models you have looked at but they are similar....

I got the one with the 50MM reticle because I wanted a wider field of view...... Taller scope rings were needed to get it to fit on the rifle also.... I also have a Nikon 3-9x40MM and 2 of the Nikon 2-7x32MM for my Ruger Mini 30 and CZ-527 rifles.... They also have been problem free and a pleasure to use....
Yes Leupold's and other high quality brands are out there but they cost a lot more.... The Nikon's are an excellent value in my opinion....

Whats the difference between savage 12 bvss and savage 12 fvss?
I know that the stocks are different, but are the actions and barrels different? Which rifle is the most accurate?
Answer: they are the same rifle with different stocks. you never kno which rifle is the most accurate till you test.

Which Savage .17 HMR should I get?
Well I gotta choose between a Savage 93R17 FVSS with a synthetic stock for $280 or a Savage 93R17 BVSS with a laminated wood stock...price unknown at the moment. Both also have a stainless steel barrel.
Answer: Get the laminated stock, unless you plan on abusing your .17 then get the synthetic stock, both are nice, but i prefer the synthetic, takes a better beating when in transport.

What are the pros and cons?
Answer: I actually own 2 Savage Model 12 BVSS rifles, one chambered for .223 and the other for .308. I regularly use them to hunt ground squirrels. The fit and finish are not perfect, but the design is sound and you won't find a better factory trigger than the accu-trigger. Even using "White Box" Winchester 55gr FMJ ammunition during the break-in period I was achieving sub MOA groups. My typical set-up is a shooting table, Harris bi-pod and Simmons Prairie Master scope (8-32X40, a cheap scope, but I needed one in a hurry and this one hasn't failed yet. I would suggest a Leupold or Nikon and you don't need more than 24X. I have a Nikon Monarch 6-24X50 on the .308). I load 50 gr Hornady V-Max bullets ahead of Accurate 2230 powder in Winchester Brass. I'm good to 500 yards on squirrel with the .223, although I usually use the .308 if there is significant wind or the range is over 400 yards. Check with www.6mmbr.com for loading information.
So, is it a good rifle--you bet, I do just as well as my buddies who have much more expensive rifles.
Is it heavy--yes, it weighs 10 pounds, but it's a varmint rifle so you're not going to be carrying it through the woods. The weight holds down recoil and makes follow up shots easy, if you need them.
The pros--I've covered that pretty well.
The cons--you might not like the blind magazine design, I don't mind it because I only load one round at a time anyway.

best ammo for .17HMR?
I am buying a Savage 93R17 BVSS in .17HMR, and I have 3 different types of ammo to choose from, and i just want your opinion on just these 3 types of ammunition as to which one would perform the best accuracy wise.
Option 1 = CCI 17gr V-Max
Option 2 = Winchester Supreme 17gr V-Max
Option 3 = Hornady .17gr V-Max
If you could just list them in order of best accuracy to worst accuracy that would be great.
I know that ammo shoots differently in all guns, but which one would I have a better chance of having the most success with, thanks.
I dont want any suggestions on anything else, just please answer the question

Answer: The barrel is free-floating. I have the similar Mark II BTVS, and also had a similar 93R17.

Answer: It would depend upon your particular gun. Two firearms that appear to be identical can perform differently with the same ammo. Your best bet is to buy a box of all three and see how they perform.
