How is Georgia OKeeffes work reflective of American modernism?
I need a thesis statement that has to do with American Modernism and Georgia OKeeffe that somehow answers the above question.
Answer: She ultimately took the subject out of art (by abstracting flowers beyond the point of recognition) which, as advocated by Clement Greenburg, was the central idea of the modernist movement.

What should I wear to dress up as Georgia OKeeffe for a 1920s project?
In U.S. History were doing a project over the 1920s. Im writing my paper about Georgia OKeeffe and I have absolutely no idea what to wear. I dont have many clothes that would pass as vintage. My project is due tomorrow and I have no money or time to go buy an outfit. Please help!
Answer: She wore a lot of different styles throughout her life, so there are actually a lot to choose from. You could wear a black or white shirt with a black skirt or pants. Any kind of silver jewelry (especially southwestern) would add to the look. Or you could wear a blue denim shirt or jacket with blue jeans, or a chambray shirt and khaki pants.
Anything that is Southwestern, or alternatively anything that looks kind of Amish, would probably work. There are lots of pictures of Georgia O'Keefe online. Her husband, Alfred Stieglitz was a famous photographer, and took plenty of pictures of her.
Good luck.

Georgia on her mind
Halfway through “Georgia & Me,” the playwright/performer who portrays both of them, or, interlockingly, each of them, cries out: “I need to see the part of me that is her, the part of her that is me,” sounding rather more like starry-eyed Frankie Addams, age 12, in Carson McCullers’ “The Member of the Wedding,” than a woman/wife/mother now somewhat past age 12.

Does anyone know of any artists that paint like Georgia OKeeffe?
I need to know if any other artists have painted flowers or nature up close like Georgia OKeeffe?
Thanks
Answer: The closet thing to nature would be the Audubon society. They were responsible for painting and logging many of natures beauties. Mostly birds, but they did do plants and animals. Also there was the Hudson river school. They also painted nature, mostly scenic picturesque sites many contained trees and bushes. not too many flowers. These groups were very famous. I'm sure you can find more information on them on the net or in your local library. You can also check out web sites for some museums that showcase their work. They really are worth looking at :)

Was Georgia OKeeffe able to exhibit in museums or sell her work while she was alive?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me. i LOVE georgia okeeffe but i have no idea what to believe on the internet so i was thinking and i thought hey i bet you guys can help me so here i am so PLEASE help me :]
Answer: You found contradicting information? I believe it is pretty clear but...Well I never met her personally so...
From wiki (and I believe this to be true:)
Beginning in 1923, Stieglitz organized exhibitions of O'Keeffe's work annually, and by the mid-1920s, she had become known as one of America's most important artists. Her work commanded high prices; in 1928 six of her calla lily paintings sold for $25,000 US dollars, which was at the time the largest sum ever paid for a group of paintings by a living American artist. This drew media attention to Georgia like never before.

What is Georgia OKeeffes historical significance?
What is Georgia OKeeffes historical significance?
This is for a project and I need help!
Thanks.
Answer: Georgia O'Keeffe was the first BIG female artist. Arguably she is the most famous of all female artists. But her goal in the early part or her career was to get the busy and restless people of New York to stop what they were doing just for a moment to stare at her paintings, and she suceeded. Her flowers are so lushious and soft, people have always equated them to sexuality but I think doing that hurts the beauty. But she had some nude shots taken of her by her husband which were published which caused a controversy (this was the 1950's) and many of her paintings caused a stir because of their supposed sexual connotations, which she denied.
Historical Signifigance: She was the first woman artist to really become a cutural icon.

Do you know of any Georgia OKeeffe Green and Blue paintings?
My friend has a painting she paid a lot of money for and shows off to visitors - it was sold to her as a copy of a Georgia OKeeffe painting a long time ago before I met her. It has colors similar to those in "Blue and Green Music" and the "Jack in Pulpit" series but does not look like any OKeeffe Ive ever seen - does anyone know of other OKeeffes that have similar colors and should I burst my friends bubble if she was conned?
Answer: O'Keefe also did landscapes and some non-objective abstracts. Here are some "different looking" Georgia O'Keeffe's that have blues and greens and do not look like Jack in the Pulpit close-up flower images with which she is so often linked:

WHY DIDN’T ARTIST GEORGIA O’KEEFFE LEAVE ALFRED STEIGLITZ AFTER HE SHOWED EVERYBODY NUDE PHOTOS OF HER?
Last weekend saw “O’Keefe and Stieglitz, A Love Story” on Lifetime Network.
In the movie Alfred Stieglitz showed nude photos of Georgia O’Keeffe in public. Why didn’t she leave him for doing such a disgusting and manipulative thing?
Answer: Lifetime network took liberties with the truth in presenting this docudrama.
WHAT HISTORY REALLY SAYS ABOUT GEORGIA O’KEEFE AND ALFRED STEIGLITZ AND THE NUDE PHOTOS:
Closer to the truth is that Alfred and Georgia supported each other for love, and used each other to boost both of their professional careers.
She seduced him, a much older, very influential, married, photographer and art dealer. He feel for her, and promoted her, and her work, building her into an icon.
“ When Georgia O’Keeffe met photographer Alfred Stieglitz, sparks flew. O’Keeffe—nearly 24 years his junior—was an unknown, struggling to define her art; Stieglitz owned the famed Gallery 291, a cauldron of avant-garde art. Soon they became storied lovers.
The exchange began in January 1916, when O’Keeffe, living in South Carolina, learned that a friend had sent her drawings to the powerfully influential Stieglitz. At first, she just sought his advice. Soon she was verbally flirting with him, and in June 1918, she moved from Texas to New York to be with him, and seduce him, though he was married. That summer, Stieglitz began shooting the shockingly frank nude photographs of O’Keeffe that made her famous, and led critics to see eroticism in her works that made her the icon she is today.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-09-21/georgia-okeeffes-love-letters/
Georgia O’Keefe’s art was about the essence of womanhood, about the female body, about sexuality.
To underscore the message, Stieglitz made photographs of O’Keeffe posing in front of her paintings, echoing their forms with her arms and hands. He also photographed her nude body, often in close-up. The pictures amounted to a public declaration that O’Keeffe and he, a married man, were lovers. They also typecast O’Keeffe as a liberated woman, assuring that her art would be viewed in erotic terms.
Obviously she was a willing collaborator in all of this. She posed for the pictures, helped to process them and applied the cropping and close-up techniques she learned from them to her paintings. She made many of those paintings suggestively sexual. But what was really at stake was power. O’Keeffe wanted the power to include sexuality in her art’s expressive range, without necessarily making it the subject. Stieglitz wanted the power to define her art purely in terms of feminine sexuality, and to market it accordingly.
Photographer and dealer Alfred Stieglitz, set her up in New York, initiating a long personal, professional and mutually promotional partnership.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/18/arts/design/18okeeffe.html
O’Keeffe confessed that she longed to be “magnificently vulgar”. If she could do that, she wrote, “I would be a great success to myself”
in 1918, O’Keeffe fell in love with her own body. She was having an affair with Stieglitz, who was three decades older and married, and who started taking fervid photographs of his young protégée. The nudes were as revelatory to her as they remain to us. These fierce close-ups of hands, breasts and buttocks are the exhibition’s pinnacle: not the world seen through her eyes, but her flesh as seen through her lover’s lens. Stieglitz distilled her limbs into potently erotic abstractions that became a narcissistic intoxicant. O’Keeffe was inspired by herself….
Those who followed contemporary art had already familiarised themselves with O’Keeffe’s anatomy two years earlier when Stieglitz had shown his nudes, and the connection was hard to miss. Nevertheless, O’Keeffe was miffed, not about the photos, but to be seen as a painter of “dirty pictures”, or as an imitator, designed, developed, and promoted by her much older lover and mentor.
Her reaction was disingenuous. Stieglitz shaped the way she saw and portrayed herself, and also pushed her to take command of her persona for the rest of her lengthy existence. He taught her how to present herself as an icon.
WHAT CRITICS SAY ABOUT LIFETIME TV AND THEIR PORTRAYAL OF O'KEEFFE AND STEIGLITZ:
"Lifetime TV is of course the TV channel "for women" and it often carries the usual feminist propaganda against men. However, this week they are bumping up that propaganda. They have already started the attack against men with a whole evening of movies (Three in a row - Sun 17th Feb) with the usual feminist themes. The theme of these movies is always the same: Women are victims and men are evil villains. To go along with the movies are TV commercials telling women that they are victims of rape and domestic violence. Sunday Feb 17th on Lifetime TV was certainly the most intense man-hatred I have seen on TV for a long time.
This propaganda will almost certainly increase false accusations against men - as it always has, and will also cause a flare up of man-hatred in the women who watch this channel.
The intensity of this anti-masculine activity is reminiscent of the eighties and early nineties when TV man-hatred was at its peak and these movies were common. However, the
