1988 mustang rear end question?
Ive got a 1988 mustang with a 8.8" limited slip rear end with 3:73 gears, it was already built when i got the car, ive got gear oil leaking into the passenger side brake drum i have mechanic skills but im not familiar with this rear end, can anybody tell me whats involved with replacing that seal, i.e. how does the axle come out, is the seal pressed in?, do i have a bearing to deal with or is the bearing in the diff? if anyone can help thanks
Answer: The axel is held in by the retaining plate by four bolts behind the brake mounting plate on the drum brake model, or behind the caliper bracket on the disc model. And yes you will have to have the bearing pressed off to gain access to the seal! The bearing is not reusable after it is removed. Good luck! The 8.8 does not use the GM type "c-clip"!!!

Answer: You have to be profitable. Nothing else even comes close. So you have to charge enuf to stay in business.
You have named the next 6 most important things.
The administrative end is the easiest. YOu keep good records of income and outflow. You keep track of parts so you never order twice for the same part you already have. You work as many hours as necessary to make a living. You get cars ready faster than your competitors. See if you can train your customers to always pay in cash. The credit cards are great but they cost you 2% of every transaction..... in a business where your profit margin might be 4%.

I have a 2001 buick regal GS that due to some unforeseen circumstances has had to sit since july. I recently received my tax refund and now I am looking to get her going again. I want to do the work i can myself to save money and to use this as a learning experience. Currently three of my tires are flat and I know I will have to take it to an auto mechanic for that(she needed new tires before I let her sit). What can I do to get my car running smoothly or at least what is recomended ? I need to build some confidence in my mechanic skills but I dont even know where to start. The car starts and my transmission was rebuilt two years ago.
Prior to sitting I experienced no problems since the transmission. Ran great. here and their I would hear a slight ticking like a spark wasnt igniting. I am personally a big fan of the Buicks because they can have such a long life line.
Answer: Change the oil, replace oil and air filters, check for invasions of bugs, foreign matter, etc. Even the exhaust tail-pipe. Start it up and check for "service engine soon" or "service vehicle soon" codes, repair as necessary. Check brakes, replace tires. Check for loose or leaking vacuum tubes (they are a part of the sensors, the heater control, the emissions control, etc). Repair as necessary. Put a pint of gasoline (gas-line antifreeze) additive in the tank. On the next tank, put in an injector cleaner additive. Flush and refill the antifreeze in the radiator. Have the air conditioner recharged. Depending on your capabilities, replace all of the brake fluid (flush/bleed the brake lines), but if you're not familiar, have a shop do this one. Brake fluid can collect water and loses its high-pressure durability, which can lead to mushy braking or failure. Talk to a good brake shop.
I have over 190K miles on my 2001 Regal GS, and I think it's great! I've had a little trouble with a connector to the front-wheel speed sensor (ABSystem) so I got an amber light, but was able to fix that with a new connector. A while ago it was chugging ("knock" on the OBD), so I replaced the spark plugs (the back three are difficult to reach; must be done from under car, so jack/block it up or go to a shop where you can rent a lift), but, unawares, I cracked one spark plug in the process and the chugging continued. I thought I still had the same problem, so I replaced the plug wires, ignition control module, and several intake/emission sensors (O2 sensor, APS, MAF, MAP), and finally the main Powertrain Control Module before giving up and paying a mechanic to discover that I had cracked a spark plug. $700 later it runs better than new.

What are the essential first tools that should go in a toolbox?
Hi there, Im just getting in to improving my practical skills and want to try everything from basic, bread-and-butter mechanics through to simple building and household engineering tasks. Bearing in mind Im an amateur and on a limited budget, what are the first essential tools I need to get my hands on, and would second-hand tools be acceptable? What should I look out for and avoid in tools?

Answer: Having read through other answers they are all good answers but i think the point is missed.
You require a toolbox full of tools on a budget.
You don't know what you want to buy.
A good tool box is built up over years.
Whatever work you undertake you'll need a steel tape measure. There are only two worth considering Lufkin or Stanley baring accidents they'll last a lifetime (don't get them wet)
Claw hammer with a steel shaft feel the balance when you pick it up ask yourself could i swing this all day.
Handsaw the throw away ones are the best buy one with a medium cut it will do most jobs (cut plastic with it and all its good for afterwards is cutting plastic) I use Stanley.
Hacksaw 10" Eclipse is good.
Spanners I bought combination set of dare I say it Stanley (no I don't work for them) the cost was ridiculously low and still going strong 20 years later.
I could go on forever someone already mentioned screwfix who are good but there is another online tool store i use Axminster Tools exceptional value and real good choice, don't be afraid of their own make they are robust tools.
Will just add a good tool box evolves over many years some tools are bought, some given by friends as presents some bought second hand. Buy them as you need them your skills will evolve with your toolbox.

Answer: For all of it? You'd need mechanical, materials, electrical, and computer engineering, as well as computer science. You'd probably need a Masters degree level education in most or all of these things, with a focus in multiple areas of each.
A lot of the technology is possible and available for a price. Many of the components used are already common, but packing it all together, decreasing the size to what you saw in the movie, and some of the other cool features make it difficult.
I answered a similar question to this last week, and in it I estimated that to create the iron man suit would take over 100 engineers, technicians, and programmers 3 or 4 year to have a working prototype, at a cost in the $30 million range, with additional time and millions to get it to the manufacturing and marketing (to the military, of course) stage.

Maplestory Mechanic Question?
Hi guys, I just want to ask about this website for Mechanic skill build, http://www.basilmarket.com/MapleStory-Guide-Mechanic-Skill-Build-342.html, just look at level 32 and 34, and look at rocket booster, it looks messed up because when you raise one booster at level 32, at level 34 when you raise it, its still on 1 in the brackets, also look at level 33, it says mechanic rage raise 3 but somehow, it suppose to be 4 due to the numbers in the brackets and it never told you to raise that skill before. Then look at level 30 and perfect armor, it tells you to raise one and it one in the brackets but then at 53, it says raise three but in the brackets, it says it suppose to be at 5, 1 plus 3 equals 4 four doesnt it??? Im soooooo confused. Please someone help. Thanks so much
Answer: Okay, you are making this way too complicated. The numbers in the parenthesis is what level the skill should be. At level 32, where it says +1 Booster, it's suppose to be "+1 Mechanic Rage". The creator of the guide just made a common mistake. At level 30, you put up perfect armor for that little bit of reflecting damage and then later on, you would max it. You wouldn't want to max that first because the attack skills is more important.
Just follow the guide. You're gonna max out everything except for Rocket Booster anyways.

So I want to build a perpetual motion machine but engineering is such a tough feild to do, but do I need engineering to build what I want to build. I fear I might not like a life of complex math and physics. I like cars though, Ive seen mechanics build things from the ground up. so three questions.
1. Is the life of a mechanic less difficult or more difficult than the life of a engineer?
2. Does a mechanic have the skills needed to build a perpetual motion machine? "my guees is probaly not"
3. Do I need engineering to build what I want to build?

Answer: Your level is still early in 2nd job. Your gonna max all the skills eventually, except Rocket Booster. No need to worry about it.

Hi guys, I just want to ask about Maplestory AP Skill Build, what should I raise up until 200, like level 10-30 raise this, 30-50 raise this ans so on.Thanks
Answer: Dexterity is your main stat. It boosts up your attack. Strength is just to wear your equips like guns and armor.
If you are very rich, just leave your base strength at 4. If you are poor, your base strength should be the same as your level. If you have decent funding, stop your base strength at 50.
I have a mechanic as well with decent funding. It is level 67 with 15 base strength.

Answer: In a word 'Funding'. I'm still staggered at the lack of basic knowledge kids are leaving school with these days. You never hear of kids leaving school with apprenticeships to go to. Maybe we need to be looking at the careers services the schools provide. They're obviously not doing their job properly! All this of course presuming the school leavers WANT to find a job!
