Name the best 12th Picks of all time in the NBA Draft?
It seems like there has been a drought for achievements for the unlucky 12th draft pick since 1989 (Mookie Blaylock), why?
Answer: Wow, I never noticed that. You would think that SOMEONE would come out of the twelveth pick.
As you mentioned, Mookie Blaylock is one of the top players to be selected 12th. Other "recent" all stars were John Paxson and Kelly Tripuka.
Biggest name to be drafted though would have to be a fellow by the name of Erving drafted in 1972. Although Dr. J played pro ball in the ABA for a few years before that, his NBA draft position was still technically twelfth.

Would there be legal issues to naming a band "Wolf Blitzer"?
I understand Pearl Jam came into legal issues when they were called "Mookie Blaylock", but I think this is different. Those issues came up because it wouldve been incredibly difficult for Epic to market "Mookie Blaylock" shirts, as a basketball player wouldve had jerseys, hats, balls, etc. to sell with his name on it. I guess Im just wondering if anyone knows the jurisdiction on that sort of thing.
Answer: I'd think that it'd be ok. When you make it big you can worry about it then.

NBA: Were the following players at one stage MVP material or the best in the league?
Were the following players at one stage MVP material or the best in the league, in their prime?
if your answer is yes or no please give a detailed reason as to why please
thanks
Baron Davis
Mookie Blaylock
Penny Hardaway
Vin Baker
Shawn Marion
Stephon Marbury
Steve Francis
Jermaine Oneal
Latrell Sprewell
Answer: Baron Davis - Baron has that potential and showed he could play 2 different styles. His first played with a Hornets team that was mainly a half court defensive team, then excelled with Golden St. running the run and gun. Golden St. took a huge blow when he left. What kills him is that he is injury prone, but when he is healthy he is just as good as the top flight PG's in this league and plays defense to boot. YES for Baron.
Mookie Blaylock - Mookie had a tough task when he came from NJ to Atlanta in replacing Doc Rivers as the Hawks next good PG, Mookie was always an insanely good defender and an underated scorer. He really is one of the better PG's of the 90's that goes underated along with guys like Mark Jackson, Rod Strickland, and others. However I don't think Mookie was ever MVP material and never held the status of being the best in the league at his position. John Stockton kind of overshadowed all PG's in Mookie's era. No to Mookie, however I respect him a great deal.
Penny Hardaway - One the best young talents I have ever seen is Penny Hardaway. He was the new age Magic Johnson. He could score pass, and rebound and play a very good post game for a guard. Before the rise of Kobe Bryant it was Penny that was the next big thing and then the injuries destroyed what should have been a hall of fame career. Instead of the Kobe - Lebron arguement that plauges this site we should have been arguing over Penny vs Grant Hill, but fate was cruel. YES TO PENNY, for sure he had MVP material in him.
Vin Baker - Vin was a 4 time all-star, most people forget this. He had some solid years and the numbers looked good at times, but for some reason something was always missing in his game. The Bucks knew it and traded him for Terrell Brandon in a 3-way deal that sent Shawn Kemp to the Cavs and Vin to Seattle. Vin was just an above average block player. He still had more post moves than most guys today, but Vin was never considered a top flight PF in a league that had Malone, Barkley, Kemp, Rodman, Webber, an upcoming Duncan and Garnett. Vin is more in that Christian Laettner catergory of having some solid years and was a solid player at times, but never greatness material. NO TO VIN BAKER
Shawn Marion - I believe that Shawn Marion is a very overated player. Some would kill my for saying this. Look at my point about Baron Davis playing in 2 totally different systems and having success. Unless Marion is on a run and gun team I think his value diminishes big time. The Suns were a great fit for him as will the Mavericks be this year, but Marion seemed to be out of place in Miami. The truly great players in this league adjust to any situation. NO to Marion.
Stephon Marbury - When Marbury was drafted the debate between him and Iverson was huge. Some felt that Marbury's game out of college was more refined and for the first 2 years in the NBA it was. Marbury has always had all world skill regardless of what we think of him, but with him it is mental and he could have helped it, whereas Penny and Grant Hill couldn't help their injuries. Marbury along with Garnett gave the Wolves their first real legit team then diaster struck and Marbury like a cancer couldn't be controlled. It became apparent that wherever he left they got better and this most of been a huge blow to his ego. NO to Marbury, Marbury is a self destructive personality and found a way to hurt multiple franchises, something tells me that he never had the mental capacity for the NBA.
Steve Francis - Stevie Franchise. As a fan there were times you hated him and times you loved him. He is just another guy on the long list of players that could have benefitted from staying in school beyond his freshman year of college. Amazing ability, but never a refined PG's game. He played more like an undersized SF than a PG and never had a fantastic jumper which started to become an issue once Yao Ming commanded lots of double teams. Injuries also killed Steve, but he had plenty of time to excel in this league and was always on the cusp of being a top flight PG and never got there. His ability to rebound from the PG spot was only surpassed by Jason Kidd in his ERA. Steve in my eyes got killed like so many others when he was sent to the Knicks who at the time were a black hole. If you went there then kiss your career goodbye. His mojo was gone at age 28 with untapped potential. Steve was the best player on a .500 team that was on the rise, but got better when he left. This doesn't make you look at Steve as a real game changer. To be in the catergory we are discussing you have to be a game changer. NO TO STEVE FRANCIS
Jermaine O'Neal - Another guy that pissed away 4 years of his career when he should have went to college and refined himself. There was a time in this era when Jermaine was one of the top flight Centers behind Shaq of Course. Jermaine was a solid 20 and 10 guy every night. Replacing Rik Smits were big clown shoes to fill and considering the situation Jermaine did it well and kept the Pacers afloat in the East with a declining Reggie Miller. In 04 the Pacers were 61-21 and O'Neal was considered for the MVP. So to answer your question. YES Jermaine was worthy. All that being said Jermaine has had a soft label and his value now is no where near what it was, but Jermaine was a solid player in this league through this decade and came close to winning MVP. YES TO JERMAINE O'NEAL
Latrell Sprewell - Choking incident aside and my hatred aside, Latrell was always a consistant player. He logged tons of minutes, for the most part always was healthy, he was an above average defender and a great slasher. He completely changed the dynamic of the Knicks in 99 and his playoff performance alone in those playoffs could have gotten him MVP, considering how Ewing was knocked out for the season. Sprewell helped keep the fading Knicks on the map another couple of years. Even the NY fans and media liked him, they would always blast Allan Houston and Latrell got away scott free because he played hard. In 2004 KG got all the credit for making the Wolves a conteder and won MVP, but how much of the Wolves success that year was Latrell's. He played second fiddle alot and at that time he was 33 years old past his prime still putting up good numbers. Regardless of what anyone thinks about him personally every team he went to got better with him being on the floor, this says something. Imagine if he wasn't a head case, but I ask you this question. After the choking incident he became an elite player. Maybe for once a player really did learn a lesson. YES TO LATRELL SPREWELL.

Have there been any HOF scoring pgs to not have their careers go down the toilet besides isaiah thomas?
Seems like no matter How good scoring pgs start out, around the end of their career they tend to dissapear (Jason williams, Mookie blaylock, Mike bibby, Nick van exel...etc)
Why is it so hard for them to ever make it to the HOF??
Its always the pass first pgs that make it (jerry west, Magic, Stockton, payton,...etc)
Answer: You're right! I've never really thought about it that way. I guess it's because the point guard is primarily responsible for including his teammates and running the offense. Score-first pg's disrupt the flow of the game, I guess.

Trivia question about former NBA player Mookie Blaylock.?
Which well-known rock band orginally named their band "Mookie Blaylock? They were forced to change it and instead dedicated their debut album to him, including the title of the album.
Answer: it was pearl jam....
The group was known (and actually toured) for a time as Mookie Blaylock, after the basketball player, but concerns about trademark issues necessitated a change after the group was signed to Epic Records. They settled on naming their debut album Ten after Blaylock's jersey number. The band eventually settled on Pearl Jam as their new name.
