Answer: Singapore doesn't fly the A380 from LA to Taipei and I don't believe Singapore flies to Taipei without having to go all the way to Singapore first, which is about an extra 8-10 hrs out of the way. You can usually buy miles as long as you're a member of Singapore's Kris Flyer program or a Star Alliance partner airline, but I think you'll find that to be quite expensive if you don't already have a lot of miles in your account. You could try finding a direct Singapore Airline's flight (777, Airbus or 747) to Hong Kong or Japan and take another airline to Taipei, or even though their business class is not as nice as Singapore Airline's, save a lot of money and time by taking China Airlines or EVA directly to Taipei from LA, good luck.

Can an American work for Singapore airlines?
Ive heard mixed things about SA. Ive looked on their website many times with no luck. So, I was wondering if you could work for Singapore airlines if your an American. Do you have to be able to speak another language? Im willing to relocate to Singapore if thats the case, but Im just wondering if I could even get a job without being a citizen of Singapore. Thanks!
Answer: I had an American friend that worked for many years for Singapore Airlines in Honolulu when they used to fly there, but I highly doubt that you can work for SIA in Singapore unless you a have a special skill that is not available from the Singaporean workforce. Airlines are not in the visa or work permit business and will hire nationals where jobs are available. SIA does hire Americans, but normally only to work in the airports or offices in the cities in the US where they need employees and have a right to work there.
If you look on the career website for SIA, you'll see that for cabin crew and pilot positions you have to be a national of the country where the job is based.
If you are a highly skilled professional with extraordinary skills that would make you desirable all around the world, that might be a different story.

singapore airlines hand luggage....?
Im flying with singapore airlines next week, but im confused about their hand luggage rules - if anyone has flown with them can u help me?
I usually take a small hand trolley/suitcase as hand luggage and fill it with my heaviest items - shoes/jeans etc. In the past this has never been queried or weighed and ive gotten away with a hefty case..........
On singapore airlines website they say that you can take one piece not weighing more than 7kg (so light) Has anyone ever had their hand luggage weighed - Im travelling to Sydney.
Also, the web states that 1 picec has constituted a hand trolly, a handbag, a briefcase - is this all together - so i can have my case and a handbag??
Sorry for all the travelling questions - just so much i wanna take and the weight of checked baggage is so light.......but i dont wanna be told to dump a load of stuff at the airport as im travelling alone!

Answer: most airlines have 7-8 kgs hand baggage only. whilst some airlines are strict, singapore isnt. but it could also depends on the port of boarding - i know they were a pain at perth australia airport for me - but genberally are good

I want to make a change to my return date and tried calling the airline who want to charge me a $500 change fee. Is there a cheaper option to do this? Items acceptable for Cabin Checked In Baggage-Singapore Airlines?
Would there be charges taking 2 laptops and 3 netbooks inside Singapore Airlines (Cabin Baggage)? I checked with their Website (singaporeair.com) but I could not find their clear regulations and limitations when it comes to these.
Answer: Last time I flew with Singapore Airlines I was told that my carry-on bag could only weigh 7 kg. They actually made me weigh my carry-on bag and when it was over the limit, I ended up checking in that piece of luggage. Typically airlines allow 1 carry-on to go into the overhead bin and 1 personal item to go under the seat in front of you.

Answer: Tiger Airways, Air Asia and Jetstar are probably the cheapest airlines on that route and are all budget, no-frills airlines.
If you want full service airlines with great service, check out Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways and Cathay Pacific. All are excellent airlines and are arguably amongst the best airlines in the world. Prices can vary, but BKK-SIN is a very competitive route and you should be able to find a good fare on one of the three airlines if you book in advance.

Could I get a Singapore Airlines job if Im not Singaporean?
My dream is to be a Singapore Airlines pilot, but the website says that you need to be a Singapore citizen/ permanant resident to be accepted, and im a UK citizen living in Hertfordshire. Would I be considered if I was able to get a visa/work permit or recieved a letter from the Singapore embassy stating that I was eligible for permanant residency? I know UK-Singapore relations are very good, and the Singapore government are currently looking for foreign talent.
Answer: well tbqh i dont think you will get a job on the airlines as resident of singapore without pr (permenant residency) since its a piloting job your chances are much higher because the pilot is not interacting with the people on board but i dont think even if you were pr you would be given a hostess job
i would write a letter to singapore airlines telling them about yourself and what you want to do and they may be willing to give you some free way due to the demand of foreign pilots
if not i would ask if just the work permit would allow you to do the job
but i think your best shot is to just apply for pr - its not the easiest thing since your living a 13hour plane trip from Singapore
the commute would be long - haha

Singapore Airlines Bad customer service in Melbourne?
My parents have traveled from Melbourne to Cairo via Singapore Airlines.
Tickets have shown available weight of 30 kgs per ticket. At Melbourne Airport, Customer service lady called: "Dianne" told us that she allows weight only for 20 kgs and charging $ 52 per any extra kg of bags weight! We explain to her that this is not written on our tickets, and she replied that its written on Singapore Airlines Australia website. Dianne decided to cancel our trip and reschedule trip two days later.
Customer service were so rude with us, and I believe that airlines tickets are considered as contract of sale and Singapore Airlines should respect this contract... Besides, $ 52 per one extra kg is too much and twenty kgs allowance is not enough at all for such long trips.
I have checked all other competitors such as Emirates, Qatar or Golf airlines and found out that allowance is 30 kgs per ticket.
Can anyone suggest best place in Melbourne to complain about Singapore Airlines customer service?? (Im still keeping all tickets and all other paper works)... I have tried to contact Singapore Airlines Head office in Australia and they just ignoring my email :o(

Answer: $500 does sound rather a lot, is that for one person or two or more?
You do need to look at the conditions of booking to see what rights, if any, you have in this. If you have booked the cheapest ticket option you may find that your rights to change are very restricted indeed. You can check online as you have a booking under their "manage your booking" section.
Join their frequent flyer programme, or if you are a member of the frequent flyer programme of another Star Alliance airline, make sure they know this. Won't make a massive difference but it could help.
Next time you contact them to ask to change, if they still say the same ask to speak to a supervisor and explain politely and pleasantly that you would like their help. It sometimes works.
The fee is not going to go down the closer it gets to the flight, it could go up. They need to sell that leg again to make money and the shorter you give them the less chance they have. You may also find that there are no seats left on your preferred date to go home.

Does Singapore Airlines A380 seat 54k have a window?
Seat 54k is the lower deck, behind the gallery and is an exit row window seat (hopefully..), i chose it because it has leg rom.
Ive been looking everywhere, it says on the singapore airlines website that it does have a window but in some videos i see that the window is way in front of the seat on the door, so while sitting down you wouldnt be able to see out at all, you would have to get up! Does anybody know anything about this seat or have you sat there yourself? id be grateful to know as this is my first time flying and id love to have a window seat (im flying in about 3 weeks).

Thanks for the replies guys, ive been on seatguru but some of the details there are different to those on the official Singapore Airlines websites, its all so contradictory which was why ive come on to Yahoo Answers to see if anybody has any first hand experience.
As for changing the seat, there is a facility on the website to pick and choose whichever seat you want (providing it is empty) at any time, so I can easily change it although only about 1/3rd of the seats are left so time is of the essence! If worst comes to worst i can probably switch with somebody when i get on the plane as you said but id rather do the research now and book the right seat :)

Answer: It might have a window because in the fleet map, Singapore Airlines didn't put "windowless" next to row 54. When you check in at the airport, you can definitely ask customer service if seat 54k has a window. They should know.

Im finding it hard to see the prices on the official website you see and this is only in advance we arent lokking to fly for about 6 weeks or so.

I found the prices on the Singapore Airlines website and it was very easy to find the prices. Just enter the departure and arrival cities, the date, number of passengers and the class (of travel) and you should get a price within about 10 seconds.
