Lloyds or Barclays..........?
I will be opening a business account with either shortly and they both seem reluctant to try and better their opponent. Im trying to play them off against each other so I get the best deal but it seems like all their policies match exactly :( for example I went to Lloyds and asked how many years free do I get with a business account. They said 1... So I went to Barclays and told them Lloyds are offering a years free banking if I go with them, what can you offer me? They said 1... I have done this multiple times with different questions with the same results. So... Has anyone banked with both of these companies? If so whats the verdict? OR any general experiences with banks other than the above mentioned would be appreciated. I am currently with HSBC and they are kin useless!
Cheers.
Thanks AGT some good advice there, but staying with HSBC is simply not an option, its almost like they have it in for me! They really are absolutely hopeless. Their policies are all... averagely bearable... But that only helps if they actually put them into action, they are so lazy its unreal! Very poor customer service and non existent customer relations. I would advise anyone to steer clear of them. So the question still remains, who to go with? It doesnt have to be any of the mentioned, I just heard they were the leaders.
Cheers.
Answer: The reason they are reluctant is because they do not want to start a price war where no-one wins!
They each know what the other is offering and even if you have a little Corporate Pulling Power, i.e a fair amount of monies in the account, they make it clear that they won't go the extra mile because there hands are tied by Management.
The Company I work for had free banking for a good 8 years until credit crunch came. Even though I told them they would force me to go elsewhere they still charged.
Going elsewhere was just the same. 1 year free and then charges.
Would advise you to stick with your bank but reduce the amount of charges yourself.
Things like this help..
1. Don't pay in cash, Use it for business exependiture. If you have to, pay your suppliers by cash received from any cash sales.
2. Don't use a overdraft or anything else that will invite charges
3. On-line Banking, much cheaper than cheques
Good luck

Barclays Bank - Unreliable?
Ive read a recent report compiled by the Information Commissioners Office where Barclays (along with HBOS, Alliance & Leicester, RBS, Clydesdale Bank, Natwest, United National Bank, Barclays Bank, Co-operative Bank and HFC Bank) is accused of unacceptable data protection breach.
Apparently, Barclays (with the others) was found to have discarded personal information in waste bins /receptacles outside its premises!
The ICO has now required these organisations to sign a formal undertaking to comply with the Principles of the Data Protection Act. Failure to meet the conditions of the undertaking is likely to lead to further enforcement action by the ICO and could result in prosecution by the Office.
David Smith, Deputy Commissioner, said: “It is unacceptable for banks and other organisations to carelessly discard their customers’ information. It is vital that banks and other organisations take security seriously". So what do you think!? Isnt it time we all switch to "Halifax"!?
Answer: I read this article also. I was listening to the radio one lunch time and a group of people were saying how lax the security at banks is. They went through the bins and found new bank cards, unsigned, ready for use. The banks said this was impossible until they tipped all these cards onto the table, live on air, and had photographic proof of them being found. Very worrying.
Fraudsters don't need to pinch your handbag anymore, just raid the bins at the back of the bank after closing time.

17 year old overdrawn on barclays bank account?
Hi, im 17 and currently have a student bank account, however, paypal recently took some money from my account which resulted in my going overdrawn; which i thought not possible, the same day i went overdrawn i transfered money from my savings into the account to make my balance positive, will the bank charge me? i cant afford these payments if they do?
Answer: They shouldnt do, as your under 18 you shouldnt be allowed credit, and and overdraft, planned or unplanned as yours was is credit. If I were you I would ring the bank and ask them why this happened. Also if they say they are planning to charge you explain to them that you did not realise this could happen and that you put the money back in straight away. If it was only a little amount they might not charge you anyway, some banks have an amount you are allowed to go over by without charges even if its unplanned, usually around £5-£10. If you have 24 hour phone banking I would give them a call straight away, explain that you are unhappy that it allowed you to go overdrawn as you are not 18.

What Compentency questions are asked for Personal Bankers role in Barclays?
Syll,
Can you please explain in detail the questions asked during your Face to Face Interview. How would they structure the question to the candidate during the interview.
Eg: Team Work or Planning & organising or Drive for quality results or best customer service.
Please help.
Answer: In role play, they would give you a scenario sheet which will have some details about the customer. All you have to do is role play. They didn't ask any questions directly about team work or planning. They will assess these qualities during role play. For example,if you are very friendly and nice to the customer, that explains customer service skill.

Barclays have refused to give me a current account..?
..I have a cash account with them - with a cash card - But refuse to give me a debit card or access to online banking.
I have 2 credit cards with other companies - A number of long standing credit agreements (Mobile, Broadband, Phone, Catalogue etc) - with only 1 or 2 missed payments over the last 4 years - all up to date now and have been for 2 years.
I have a CCJ from 3 years ago (result of dispute with a previous employer - not a bad creditor debt)
Which bank is most likely to offer me a current account ? I think I have tried Natwest in the past... Any one know which banks arent as strict about giving a simple current account ?
( Im in the UK )
Thank you citizen - Come the glorious day theyll be the first up against the wall - Bop, Bop, Bop !
Answer: The Co-operative bank are pretty fair, and they have an ethical policy.
I'd stay away from Barclays, anyway. They have financial interests in Zimbabwe, and let's not forget their involvement in South Africa during apartheid.

Am I in the wrong? Egg, Barclays and Moorcroft?
I now live abroad and -
My bank wrongly said i was over my overdraft limit. The same letter showd my balance to be 500 pounds below the OD limit shown also.
As a result my Egg load was not paid by Direct Debit and my Debit Card was stopped, so I can no longer pay Egg.
I got a regular email from Egg 2 days ago saying my payment will be due on Feb.2nd., being 2 missed payment of 41 pounds and the next payment of 41 pounds, a total of 124 pounds.
However, a couple od days earlier a letter was sent to my correspondence address, a parents house, saying that Moorcroft debt collectors were now handling the case and require full payment.
I have tried to talk to Egg and they say they cant speak to me anymore and that my online account must be wrong, as it says I should still pay before Feb. 2nd. Whereas on the phone they say otherwise.
I am abroad now and as its an online bank I refer to it online and have never received a messege about debt collectors whatsoever.
I feel I could have talked to the parties sooner but as my wife has just had our first baby, I have been extremely busy. But as far as I was aware and still am, my online account is fine.
thanks Dark Crusader but both of those options are unavailable to me.
Answer: Moorcroft are understanding guys.
RING THEM ASAP, tell them the situation and tell them to remove the interst charges.
Next ask them for 90 days interest free to go to your local NEW abroad bank and take out a loan to pay off your debt (or get your parents to pay it and then arrange to pay them back)
Once this is done start afresh where you live but ignore it and trust me they will find you in any country nd more importantly if you have correspondance going to your parents address they can determine that you are resident there and you dont want that.
Moorcroft are very good tho so deal with it now.

Right next Monday 8th Jjune 2009 after the results are in can we then turn out attention back to the bankers.?
The bankers must be hugging themselves with glee that attention has been turned from them. So let us wake the buggers up on Monday with a few headlines o n how they are spending their ill gotten gains. im sure Barclays staff of a senior level could pull the plug on high management and their activities especially as their final salary pensions are down the drain
Answer: The BIG bosses at the Barclay's need a good panning, and I am sure that many of their 'good' employees, some that have worked for Barclay's for 30 plus years, and many that are earning the princely sums of between £15 - 17K will be more than happy to blow the whistle on their fatcat employers for robbing them of their final salary pension scheme.
Barclay's are setting a new precedence for EVERY other company to follow suit. Stopping the final salary pensions will be a disaster for many people in Britain, myself included. But we can still thank Brown for raiding £5 billion out of pensions year on year for the last 12 years for their poor overall performance. What Brown has taken amounts to more than 10% of the so-called 'black hole'.

Barclays Premier League Week 12 Predictions?
What are your predictions for this mid-week set of games? Heres mine:
Stoke City 1 - 2 Birmingham City
Tottenham 2 - 0 Sunderland
Aston Villa 1 - 1 Blackpool
Chelsea FC 2 - 0 Fulham
Newcastle 3 - 0 Blackburn
West Ham 0 - 1 WBA
Wigan 1 - 3 Liverpool
Everton 0 - 0 Bolton
Manchester City 2 - 1 Manchester United
Wolves 0 - 3 Arsenal
For those who care, reasoning:
Birmingham havent won away this season, and I think theyve played reasonably in the past few weeks, so I think its time they got that win.
Sunderland only just beat Stoke - the game would have changed a lot if the referee had seen Cattermoles game-changing handball. I cant see them managing to see off Tottenham, who were unlucky in their 4-2 defeat to Bolton.
I dont doubt Villa, yet I dont doubt Blackpool. The newcomers have exceeded expectations for the second season so far, and I believe they can snatch a point from the Villians.
Its Chelsea - theyve not lost nor conceded at home, and I dont see Fulham being the first to score there. This derby is also over-shadowed.
Newcastle have been in excellent form recently, having an excellent derby win, and then going to the Emirates and winning. They can easily see off Blackburn.
West Ham havent been playing their best, and West Brom will give it there all. I can see them going home with all three points.
Everton havent been at their best, and although Bolton will be optimistic, I need a goalless draw in this bunch.
Here we are, the greatest game in the BPL. City will be boosted with the return of Tevez, even though they are missing Balotelli. The Reds, however, are missing many of their top-performers, including Nani. I think that this derby will end in a result the Citizens will be delighted with.
Arsenal will be looking to recover after a home defeat, and I dont see Wolves even snatching a draw.
And what do you think?
@mo (cfc)~ Fulham are one of Chelseas biggest rivals, due to location. Though, the derbys lost as much excitement as it once had.
Answer: apparently Fulham are Chelsea's biggest "traditional" rivals, but.... since we have no history, no one seems to care.....
If Chelsea doesn't get 3 points, im abandoning all hope and supporting Bolton from now on

Barclays Capital Numeracy Test?
I know this may not be a very suitable place to ask such questions but anyway... I just did a numeracy test with BarCap and upon completion of the test I got this message
"We have detected that you have started the Numerical Reasoning Test but have been unable to retrieve your test results up to this point.
Please click the link below if you previously experienced a problem downloading the test, a disconnection, or were displayed your response string at the end of the test. When you click the link you will be prompted to enter your string in a separate window.

If you have tried the link below and are still experiencing problems with the online numeracy test please contact us via your message centre, giving details of the problems you have experienced."
There is no link I could click on! FYI, I have completed the test and before closing, the test window did say that the test was completed. I emailed the recruitment team and hopefully they will reply shortly but its new year so I dont know how long it will take.
Anyone can help?
Answer: This has happened to a bunch of people I know earlier, and it's all cool. Just wait for the email from Barclay's - they'll get your results soon enough.
ps - All of my buddies passed, so it seems you might have as well :)
I'm writing mine in a few days, how did you find the test to be like compared to the practice ones from efinancial careers and all?

Barclays redundancy - any legal basis to ask for more?
I have been given one months notice of redundancy at Barclays, and offered 2wks redundancy payment per year of service (=8wks, as I have worked 4yrs).
I understand that this is more than the minimum statutory obligation in the UK, but it is less than what I believe to be their past practice and less than what they had agreed with the Unite unon for outsourced IT workers (I am neither a Unite member nor being made redundant as a result of outsourced IT, but as a result of slow business). According to http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/15/barclays_it_job_cuts/ , Barclays agreed to 3mths notice plus 3mths redundancy payment for employees laid off recently.
Is there any way I can legally or otherwise oblige Barclays to make more payment in my case?
Secondly, is Barclays legally obliged to provide me an independent legal advisor if requested?
Answer: I bet you regret not joining "The Union" now.
But nevertheless. If you go to the Citizens Advice Beureau(CAB) near to where you live, I think (although not certain) that you will find that you are entitled to the same redundancy package as your workmates.
Should have joined the Union, however meaningless it seemed at the time.
Good luck!

anyone claimed any bank charges back from barclays, and how did they go about it for best results?
Answer: I havent personally claimed back from Barclays, my claims were with the HSBC and Halifax. However, users of my site have claimed back from barclays, and I was actually in contact with someone today who got their bank charges back from Barclays with help from my site.
Although I havent claimed from Barclays, the process is the same for every bank, and at the moment you can get 100% of your charges back, no matter which bank you claim from.
You can claim back your charges from the last 6 years and the procedure is:
1) Write to the bank and ask them for a copy of your charges for the last 6 years, or alternatively a set of statements for the same period. You do this by making a "Subject Access Request" under the Data Protection Act, enclosing a cheque for £10 made out to the bank. This by passes the banks normal charges for statements which is normal a large amount for 6 years worth. The bank have 40 days to send you the data.
2) Write to the bank asking them to refund your charges, giving them 14 days to reply, attaching a "Schedule of Charges" (a list of the charges you are claiming for).
3) Send the bank a "Letter before Action" giving the bank one last chance to refund your charges before you take court action. They have 14 days to reply.
4) File a claim online using the Money Claim Online web site run by the UK Court Service. The claim is served on the bank 5 days after its submitted. The bank has 14 days to acknowledge the claim. If they don't you can request a "Judgement by Default" and you win the case, and get your charges, statutory interest at 8%, and your court fees.
If they do acknowledge the claim, they then have 14 days to submit a defence (making 28 days in total from the date the claim was served). If they don't then you can again request a "Judgement by Default", and get back your charges, interest and court fees as above.
If they file a defence, then you and the bank get an "Allocation Questionnaire" to fill in. Some judges dismiss the case at this stage, as the bank can't win, so again you win. If this doesn't happen, a hearing date is allocated. The bank will either back out before the hearing, or won't turn up in court. Again you win the case and get your charges, interest and fees.
Follow the correct procedures and you will get your charges back! Its important to send all letters to the bank and courts by recorded delivery, so you can prove they were received, and more importantly when they were received (which you can find from the tracking section of the Royal Mail web site).
Also make sure that you send all letters to the banks head office, and not your local branch. Don't phone the bank either, as this can delay things and you have no proof of whats been said.
Have a look at my site below which has detailed step by step guides to the whole process of claiming your charges back. It also has template letters you can put your details into and send to the bank, and forums for one to one advice. We also have a guide to filing your claim in court online, which is unique to the site.
Claiming your charges back is easy, and using the guides on my site you can get 100% of your charges back, plus 8% interest on top if the case goes to court (which it almost certainly will do). Don't be put off by the thought of going to court though, the banks will settle before the hearing, or won't turn up.
The site is completely free to use!
