Answer: All of them play a part in the transportation network in Singapore to serve the needs of the people travelling in the country. It would be unfair to compare which company is contributing better than the other. On bus services, SMRT runs a much smaller fleet - hence a lot easier to manage compared to Sbs transit. SBS's buses may be changed every ten years, but I doubt that is the case as you still find leaks everywhere on the older buses - not unlike those days of the STC (Singapore Traction Company). Just to compare bus services, I think SMRT is doing a better job. As for MRT trains, I think they are about the same and the stations are well kept. For taxi services, I think most Comfort drivers are doing a good job although there are more rooms for improvement. Some of their drivers are worse than the worst I can compare with certain places in Malaysia and Myanmar

Why People Think That Singapore Short of Transportation?

Singapore transportation is the first class.But some people dont appreaciate it. There are many transportation eg. Trains like SMRT and Sbs transit - East-West Line, North South Line, North East Line and the coming Circle Line in 2011. SMRT Buses and Sbs transit Buses everywhere in Singapore. First Class Taxis Services. All have but why people think that Singapore is still short of transportation?
Answer: to certain extent, I agree with calvin, i think generally is good, (esp mrt and cabs)...just that it is not there when we need it... also, bus services is kinda "monopolised" by 1/2 company, and they get to decide a. the route (which sometimes a bus is made to go round and round when it actually can cut down the time if its direct) b. the fare (yes yes yes, I know it is cheap already... ("x") c. the quality of drivers (i dun mean the service level, but more imptly,the safety consciousness...it seems there's an increase in accident rate, and when these accidents happen, the orgn just terminate the drivers, din it occur to them that they need to pay more attn in er.hm..training or even down to selection of driver criteria?)

Should SBS Transit & SMRT rise their bus and train fees?

On the 01 August 2007, Sbs transit and SMRT Corp submitted an application to the PTC (Public Transport Council) for a fee hike. If approved by the PTC, bus and train fares will rise by up to 1.8 per cent - or around three cents - from October. My opinion is: a) Isnt the public transport a subsidised form of transport for the general public? Why the hike in fee when they are so profitable? b) If these two private transport companies want to operate like a private enterprise, I would demand a better service from them. Especially Sbs transit. The long waiting time, the sardine-tin packed buses during peak hour, greasy grimy window panels on most of the seats, air-condition either too cold or too hot, vintage diesel engines that drowns my music, cockroaches hitchhiking a ride, erratic bus captains; doesnt justify the price hike. Will you agree with the price increase? Why?
Answer: Definitely reject any increase in public transportation fee. They just did that a year ago, when have they ever reduce the fares during an economic downturn? Listed/pte so called 'public transport' companies are more inclined to focus on their bottomline profit and top end shareholders value (financial returns). All these increases are expediting the rate of the citizen's depression and the economy's too....

Answer: You can take 74 as its the only Sbs transit bus to get u from Ngee Ann Poly to Holland Village. Just take the bus opposite the poly and alight at Holland Drive, outside Blk 46 and walk northwards to reach Holland Village. 17 stops after Ngee Ann Poly and approx travel time: 20-25 min.

Answer: Hi there you are asking the right guy, for I was with Sbs transit a while back. Both are Singapore's sole 2 major transportation companies in rail and buses, but do take note both operate different areas and routes-SMRT operate bus routes mainly in the north and northwest areas and rail lines spanning from north-south to east-west whereas Sbs transit operate bus routes almost the whole country but rail line only run on the northeast area.
