I wanted to buy a couple new books to read, and Im unsure which of these I would definitely not regret buying, and which of these I might be better off going to the library and borrowing. Im a Harry Potter fanatic, a Twilight slanderer, and some of my other faves are Life of Pi, The Book Thief and 1984.... :)
Thanks
BQ: Which one off the list do you own and why do you love/hate it? :)
Chorle: Sorry that it didnt contain a "Hitchhikers Guied to the..." And its not a "expert/board"-made list. Its from Entertainment Weekly magazine for the best books written from 1983-2008. moreover, I liked the writing style of Michelle Kerns on her site, where I got it from...
http://www.examiner.com/book-in-national/out-with-the-old-and-with-the-new-take-a-look-at-this-list-of-100-modern-classics
Its not THE list, but its definitely a recommendable "a" list
Answer: I own Harry Potter, The Kite Runner, The Da Vinci Code, and the His Dark Materials Triology.
I'm not even going to say why I love Harry Potter, because it's clearly a work of art. You are a person of my heart. I'm a Twilight slanderer too, by the way :)
I liked the Kite Runner because it's set in Afghanistan which interests me, and because I thought it was pretty unusual to have such a flawed protagonist. It was honest and different.
The Da Vinci Code is good because the plot is so intricate, and it kept you guessing until the end.
And I thought that the world Pullman created in His Dark Materials was really convincing, and I found the actual concept of different/parrallel worlds to be interesting.
I'm ashamed to say that I haven't read any of the others. Hope I helped.

how is it so far? Btw, ive got alot more....?
so this is my story, (part of it, ive written like a 20somethin more pages) sorry its so long. but could you read it and tell me if it catches ur attenion or if it totally sucks? Thanks, and Merry Christmas!!!
On the morning of Monday December thirteenth I took forever picking out an outfit, which today was dark periwinkle baby doll top, with dark blue skinny jeans. My brown hair was a whole different matter, after twenty minuets of tugging, and twisting I just put it in a headband. I walked out of my house into outdoor slush and took a breath. Freezing air filled my nostrils, today was going to be a good day. I looked down my steep artic driveway. Of course today I’d chosen to wear my wedge boots. I took another breath, I could do this. I took a step, so far so good. While taking my second step I looked across the street to see Trish, my best friend, and her brothers, Justin and Ryan.
Both were gorgeous. I swear they were the most beautiful people alive. When either of them flexed their arms their biceps were bigger than both of my thighs put together! Trish didn’t have a six pack like her siblings, but she made up for it in agility and flexibility. Although if you took her on in a fight you’d better hope you had life insurance. The Robinsons were the strongest family I’ve ever met. Even their mom and dad could compete in the Olympics if they wanted to!
I took a sharp breath in when I saw them, first because I did every time I saw Justin I hyperventilated, and second because I could have sworn Justin was holding a gun up to Trish. That was when my foot slipped. I tumbled down my iced driveway, hitting my head a billion times on the way down. At the bottom I slid over black ice into the middle of the road where a car was coming right at me. They swerved, but the little red sports car sent a piece of ice or a rock hurdling toward my leg. It slashed deep but all I could think about was Trish. I tried to sit up, but realized I couldn’t breathe.
Duh. The wind was knocked out of me, shouldn’t I be trying to breathe? Gasping or something? Why wasn’t I? Oh well. My life was okay, nothing horrible, I always tried my best. No! My mind screamed, I don’t know if it made it to my lips, but I could feel myself drifting into unconsciousness. I worked to keep my eyes open, to move to do something! Crisp air started to fill my lungs, burning like dry ice.
My eyes were clearing and tears started bubbling, but I could see Trish, and Ryan already standing over me. My mind was racing, I knew I hadn’t totally passed out, and I couldn’t imagine how they could be over here? It had only been two seconds, three tops! Where was Justin?
While Trish was asking if I was okay, and Ryan was helping me up, all I could say was “Justin? Where is he, the gun! What happened? Is he okay?” I kept stammering on.
The pain hit, full on. My leg was pounding and I crashed to the ground again. Still crying and mumbling about Justin. Ryan picked me up like a child and headed for my house. Trish was holding my leg up higher than my heart. More pain, my head throbbed. I yelped. Ryan made soothing sounds, and Trish squeezed my hand. But Justin wasn’t there.
“It’s okay Bri, calm down. Shhh.” Trish whispered.
Before we entered my house I got a glimpse of the sidewalk, Justin was picking himself up off the ground, panting for air, and our eyes met. His dark mud puddle eyes that were normally full of joy and life, were now burning with fire, he was glaring! Then there was something else taking the fire’s place, it almost looked like sorrow. But he turned away before I could understand what it was.
Ryan laid me on my grungy sofa and put a pillow under my leg, I hazily remember Trish telling him to call 911, and that I probably had head trauma. Yeah right! I thought.
I woke up in my normal hospital gown, and normal room, that actually had my name instead of a number on the outside of it. Small town… Dr. Hendrickson, aka James, was wrapping gauze around my leg.
“So how bad is it?” I asked him, he glanced up and smiled.
“Hey Bridget, you’re awake. It’s not too bad. You’ll be on crutches for a few days, one week tops. The ice cut pretty deep, into your muscle. You have cuts all up and down your body. You have a small concussion, and you’ll probably feel light headed for a while. But it could have been worse, knowing you.”
“Yeah, it’s not nearly as bad as the climbing incident last summer. My arm still sometimes hurts from it, but I’ve heard that’s normal for a bone broken three times and a muscle totally incapacitated.” I tried to smile but it hurt.
“Yeah that one was pretty bad, good thing you heal fast.” He smiled too. “Looks like you’re good to go. I already called Trish, she sounded upset.”
As I got ready I thought of how weird it was that one of the head doctors of a hospital new all of my family, which wasn’t much, and friends. I looked at the clock, I could still make it to lunch, if I was lucky maybe part of
thanks! inthe future could u say what u like about it?
Answer: Heyy, its really good!

Answer: Any GREATEST SONGS LIST that has Dylan, The Stones, & Lennon in the top three spots, no Elvis in the top 5 (or ten), and TOTALLY SNUBS Country Music altogether (remember it says 100 greatest period, not 100 greatest in rock only) has absolutely no credibility.
Neither does a list that contains Nirvana or the Sex Pistols. Nor does a list that has absolutely no songs by arguably the greatest songwriter of the 20th Century, Hank Williams. Only artists that belong in the top 10 are The Beach Boys & they're not even there with their best song
The only reason Rolling Stone put that utterly lack luster song @1 is because its the name of their mag! I can think of 500 songs that are better.
EDIT Sorry ONE Country song @ 85, anyone who puts Patsy Cline beneath 95% of these people is seriously disturbed

plz read! i need advice on my writing.....?
so this is my story, (part of it, ive written like a 20somethin more pages) sorry its so long. but could you read it and tell me if it catches ur attenion or if it totally sucks?
I looked at the clock, I could still make it to lunch, if I was lucky maybe part of second period.
thanks krystal!!!
Answer: It is a good start, but you have far to go. The important thing is to show, not tell. You have to show the reader, The opening line, "On the morning of Monday December thirteenth," sounds like the opening of a new broadcast. You need to show your readers this info, not anounce it. Take your time. Have her mark the day off on her calender. Let her look out the window to decide what the weather will be like and how she should dress. Show the reader that it is morning by mentioning the moring bird songs. Remember, you have to put your reader there, in the moment. But, don't give up. Write, Write, Write. Good Luck
