SIM University?
What is the difference between SIM and Unisim?
Answer: SIM has not been given university status by the Ministry of Education. It does not grant its own degrees, but only award degrees in collaboration with overseas universities (eg. RMIT, UOL, etc). Most of its students are A-level and polytechnic graduates. It has both part-time and full-time courses.

Unisim is a university which grants its own degrees (i.e. the degrees are not considered distance-learning). Most of its students are working adults (i.e. not fresh A level / poly grads). It only has part-time courses.

Answer: No, but it will help.
Most so-called "web designers" are self taught and use IDEs (like Dreamweaver). This makes them amateurs that will never turn into professionals. The result is a crowded field, cut-throat business, bad services and drop in prices: you can get a static site for a few dollars.
The be a GOOD designer, you need Design skills (graphic arts) AND Coding skills. The latter is not wery well taught at any schools, but can be "grabbed" in real life, working with professionals.
For a higher income, you need serious specialisation (ie networking, application design and so on).

SIM, i do not know it is accrediting by which university as they did not state in their website. As for MDIS, the course i doing is awarded by Edith Cowan University, AUS. When graduated, i will have double major, and has a universitu degree cert with a MCSE certification by Microsoft Is it good? But as i search through the forum, they are some court issue of students sueing MDIS. I wonder it is safe to still choose MDIS.
I previously doing Electronics and Computer Engineering in Ngee Ann. I wonder if i can get some credit exemption and how long will i need to complete the course. Anyone doing the courses from MDIS or SIM, Care to share with me?
Answer: It is definitely safer to study with SIM as SIM is recognised as a Singapore's gov university for its part time studies. If not wrong, now the part time IT degree is awarded by Unisim itself.
I believe u will definitely benefit more in knowledge n studies from SIM.
For private institutions, they only get license from the foreign universities to run the course. the awarding university can be changed anytime when the pte institution's license expires if not being renewed.

Answer: As a local university student, I must say that a Unisim degree is definitely recognised in Singapore and is endorsed by the Ministry.
However, I can't say the same for employers who can be biased towards the 3 mainstream universities SMU, NUS and NTU.

Answer: Unisim, since it isn't distance-learning and employers have less of a stigma towards it. But if you plan to work overseas, the other two might be a better choice.

Answer: Unisim will be better recognised if you plan to work in Singapore as it is recognised by the government. If you plan to work overseas, the University of South Australia cert might be better.

Univ degree - to do or not to?
My best friend is in his mid 40s who only has a professional diploma with 20 years of work experience in multinational companies. He was retrenched recently and is now jobless.
Nowadays in Singapore, a middle-aged person has great difficulty in finding a decent pay job. He had come across real cases of MBA middle-aged holders, who work as security guards or cleaners taking home less than $1K salary.
He is undecided if he should go ahead & spend >$10K to get a univ degree at Unisim, to increase his job prospects. What do you think?
Answer: what is his job level at his previous job?
if it is managerial position, then yes. A degree is likely to help, especially one that specialized in management.
if it is executive position, then no. More advisable to spend the time & money on some technical course relating to his profession, to bring himself up-to-date.
warn him of ending up being over-qualified for executive positions, and yet lack the potential for managerial one, and get stuck in unemployment.

Im attempting to study for a graduate diploma in HR. But I wasnt very sure which institute is better - SHRI or Unisim, both offer graduate diploma but the cost & duration is different.
