Who will host the 2018 winter olympics?
Three cities are candidates to host the 2018 Winter Olympics:
Annecy, France
Munich, Germany
Pyeongchang, South Korea
Who do you think will win the bid to host the 2018 winter games?
Personally I want Munich to win because It would be the first time Germany hosted the olympics of any kind in a reunified nation. It would also give Munich its redemption time since 1972 and it would also be the first city to host both summer and winter games.
Answer: It will most likely go to Munich and that is what I am hoping for. The first games in Germany were plagued by Hitler and used for the pushing of his propaganda. The next time Germany would host a games was the Summer games in Munich in 1972. Germany had dubbed those the "Happy Games" and hoped to restore Germany's image after the Hitler debacle. However, their worst nightmare would be realized when a terrorist group known as "Black September" Took hostage 12 Israeli athletes and coaches who were all eventually killed. Germany was then plagued by the poor handling of the situation. These games would finally give Germany the chance to have their "Happy Games" and I think they deserve it! Munich would also make history by being the only city to host both a Summer and a Winter games.

Could I make it to the 2018 Winter Olympics?
i started skating a year ago, and from now i would have 7 years to improve my skills, get most if not all of my triples, and master basic and advanced skills. i will probably move closer to my rink in the next two years or so. if not then i will only be 45 minutes away, so i could go to skating practice most of the time. i still have basic levels to go, but i will be done with those by the middle or end of next year. i will then be starting in the more advanced elements of figure skating, maybe even ISI? what i was asking was could i build up enough skills to get to the 2018 Olympics?
Answer: I don't mean to sound cruel, but you most likely won't :( I know it really sucks, but that's just the way it is. The chances are very, very, VERY slim. On the off chance that you do make it to senior level, which you have to be competing in to go to the olympics, you'll be up against girls that have been skating for their whole lives, who do nothing but skate. Especially if you live in the US, because figure skating is really popular there. And as you've been skating for a year and are still in basics, I'm sorry but you would have to be doing doubles already and skating full time (as in hours every day) to catch up. People say Johnny Weir started at 12 and went to the olympics, but he was exceptionally talented and landed an axel in a week! And it isn't worth giving up your whole life just for a tiny chance at the olympics. Instead, you should aim to compete at regionals and maybe sectionals, but don't expect to win. Like I said, the people who have placed have been skating for years and years and years and years. Just skate for the love of it, and aim to compete in some small competitions at first, and work your way up as high as you can. Even if you don't make it to the olympics, at least you tried. Anyway, remember the olympics is just one competition.
Good luck! :)

Pyeongchang, South Korea awarded 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
What city do you want to host the 2018 Winter Olympics?
The bids are Annecy, France; Munich, Germany and Pyeongchang, South Korea.
My pick is Annecy.
Answer: It will probably go to Pyeongchang, South Korea. During the bid for the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, Pyeongchang, South Korea has always come up second. And the winter Olympics has never gone to Korea. However, Germany has a great shot because it hasn't hosted an Olympics since 1976 and a winter since 1936. They prefer to bring it to different continents and Europe should be next. I want it in Germany, because hopefully I will be competing there. :)
1994- Europe
1998- Asia
2002 - North America
2006 - Europe
2010 - North America
2014 - Asia
2018 - Europe should be next :)

can i make it to the 2018 winter olympics ?
figure skating has always been my dream , and i am going to start taking lessons . is it possible to the make it to the olymics? .... i dont think so:[
Answer: Reaching the Olympics in figure skating is an impressively large task.
The younger, the better, Olympians have often been training since they were 4-8 years old. The good thing about this is EXPERIENCE. You could reach the highest figure skating level, but with little competition experience, your chances of winning competitions is dramatically reduced. As soon as a skater is eligible to compete, they should try as many competitions as possible. They may be well practiced, but experience counts for so much. Starting at 8-14 doesn't make it impossible, just less likely. Rarely, there are successful figure skaters who started skating at this age.
Coaching is VERY expensive. Finding a coach who can coach you to the highest level isn't too difficult, but the top coaches of a country are harder to find and aren't evenly spread out through a country. They also charged FAR much more in lessons and expenses, after all, if they can get you gold medals, they're worth the money. To be the best you must be willing to pay the money for coaching, equipment and travel among other things.
In countries where there is a great, continuing history of success in figure skating (America, Canada, Russia, France, Japan and now Germany and China for pairs) competition is at the most ultimate level. You could reach the highest level, have a great coach and be able to afford whatever you need, but you must beat off the competition. Successful countries like USA and Canada often have at least 2 entries to the Olympics in all of the figure skating disciplines (men/ladies/pairs/ice dance), but this means you have to place 1st or 2nd at National competition just to have a chance to qualify. This means skating better than most of today's great figure skaters. In a country where there isn't such strong competition, possibilities are greater. For example, the 4th place American male figure skater could defeat the 1st place British male figure skater in competition. This means that if you come from one of the countries mentioned, it is even more of a challenge to reach Worlds or Olympics.
Hard work and commitment is the obvious obstacle, but Age, Expense and Competition must also be taken into account. The above are reasons that could prevent someone being an Olympian, but nobody said that they are impossible to overcome!
Best of luck, and I hope you have a great time in figure skating!

Who do you want to win the 2018 Winter Olympic bids?
Out of the three current bids, which are Annecy of France, Munich of Germany and PyeongChang of South Korea. Which city/contury do you think should have the 2018 Winter Olympics?
Answer: Not sure, but I think PyeongChang will get them. The Winter Olympics has an unofficial rotation policy, and the 2014 Games are being held in Sochi, Russia (Europe); which would seem to rule out Annecy and Munich. Also, South Korea's never hosted the Winter Olympics before.
I think the French will be secretly hoping Annecy doesn't get them - it would wreck Paris' bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics (which is what France really wants)

Who do you think will become the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympics?
With the winning city to be announced this July who do you think will win the rights to host the Olympics?
After 2 unsuccessful bids for both the 2010 and 2014 winter games, will Pyeongchang finally get the win and host the 2018 games?
Will the Olympics return to the city of Munich where the 1972 Summer games were held and plagued by the Munich massacre? (Making it the only city to have hosted but the Summer and Winter Olympics) Will this finally be Germanys chance to restore their image on an international scale after the Munich Massacre plagued what was meant to be their happy games?
or
Will Annecy France win the rights to host? France hasnt played host to the Olympic games since the 1992 Albertville games
Tell me who you think/want to win and why
Answer: I would choose Munich. I know that alot of people think it will be Pyeongchang but they have to be reminded that Germany has a pretty harsh olympic past and deserves an olympics. If you take a Look at the olympic past of Germany you will see that there first olympics was the summer in 1936 in Berlin. Well, Hitler used those olympics as a political propaganda machine for the Nazi's and did the same exact thing to the winter olympics held that same year in Garmisch. However Germany is a strong nation and even when it was split between two nations they still staged an Olympics in Munich in 1972! However like it's past Olympics the Munich massacre overshadowed the Happy atmosphere that was a very well organized games. When Germany reunified they bidded twice: once for the 1992 winter but lost, and once for the 2000 summer but lost. So basically we are on the same page as Pyeongchang when it comes to lost bids and if Munich is chosen it would be the first olympics of any kind staged in Germany since reunification; and the first winter olympics celebrated in Germany since 1936 that would be about 82 years ago in 2018! It would also be the first city to host both summer and winter and would make history. It would also have been about 46 years since Munich 1972 in 2018. Alot of people say it won't get chosen because it is in Europe. That may be a factor but Sochi is located in eastern Europe in Russia right on the border with Asia. Also the olympics haven't been to the german alps since 1972 in Innsbruck, Austria, that would about 35 years ago in 2018! Munich would be a great host because most of the venues are already built and ready! They would just have to be renovated! Munich also boosts good in transportation because it has 3 airports located next to all the venues: Munich Intl located near the Ice park in Munich, Innsbruck Intl located near the snow park in Garmisch, and Slazburg Intl located near the luge/ skeleton located at Lake Konigsee. Munich also has the autobahn which basically is a super fast highway, and let me tell you that road is VERY FAST! Entertainment and hotels are also already in place since it has the advantage of a big city setting. Munich also offers the best of both worlds when it comes to setting because it offers the big city setting that Vancouver offered, and the tiny little mountain village that Lillehammer offered that Garmisch can offer. Pyeongchang while although would be a great place for the winter olympics to be held just doesn't seem right. There a little city of just 46,000 and the nearest airport is at Inchenon in Seoul, about 200 miles away! Also did you know that they don't even have a stadium! The opening ceremonies would be held at a tiny stadium that would hold just 60,000 at the ski jump! And while they say that it is the most compact plan, think about it. Your at the ski jump and you need to go to the coastal cluster that is thirty minutes away! In Munich you'll have to travel to different parks but once there the venues are litterly only 5 minutes walking distance from the park center! Germany is also a safe nation and it not threatened like South Korea is with North Korea, and while they say that North Korea won't affect anything it might and has in the past. North Korea blew up a Korean Air passenger flight in 1987 to scare teams that would be competing in the 1988 summer games in Seoul. And if Pyeongchang really wanted the games they should have waited until 2022 to bid because three bid's in a row sounds stale by the third attempt. France saw this and bidded twice for 2012 and 2016, but knowing bidding a third time would be unrealistic and sound stale they aren't bidding for 2020, and are waiting until I think 2024. And even if Pyeongchang does lose they shouldn't fret about it being there third time, they would just be added on to a list of many other cities that have bidded 3 or more times ex: Jaca of Spain has bidded 4 times, Detroit in the USA has bidded 6 times! Finnaly i'm sure you've heard about the public resistance of farmers in Garmisch, this should not affect the bid since alot of bids have opposition groups to them ex: Tibet's protest of the 2008 games in Beijing, and Georgia possibly boycotting the 2014 games in Sochi. Hopefully this will be resolved soon. I hope the IOC chooses Munich but i can tell you this: it will be a very close race between Germany and Korea.

2018 Winter Olympics candidate cities -- which city are you hoping gets selected by the IOC?
Its between three cities (the lowest amount of bidders ever) ...
- Annecy, France
- Munich, Germany
- PyeongChang, South Korea
Im personally hoping for Annecy, I think it would be a beautiful place for the Winter Olympics. Munich has already hosted the Winter and Summer Olympics. PyeongChang has very high support among residents.
Answer: I'm hoping PyeongChang gets it, they've narrowly missed out on the last 2 bids and are still trying to get it, that shows commitment.
Munich hasn't held the winter games, only summer. Though they were held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936, and that's pretty close to Munich.

Which city do you think should host the 2018 Winter Olympics?
Although the games are 8 years away the host city will be announced next summer at the 123rd IOC Session, Durban, South Africa. 3 cities have entered. Each could host great olympics. Here they are:
Annecy, France: This cool little French town is located in south eastern France near Geneva. Its also located near Mt. Blanc. This town would be a great place for the 2018 games to be, however if they do win it would destroy Frances hope for Paris to host the 2024 summer games to celebrate the centennial of Paris 1924 games.
Munich, Germany: This German city does have a good potential to host the games. Its already hosted the summer games back in 1972 and if selected would be the first city to host both summer and winter games. This city is located near in south eastern Germany near Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which hosted the 1936 winter olympics and would be the place to build the alpine sports venues. It also has existing venues from 1972 and would be the first time the games would be held in a reunified Germany. However this cities last olympics was overseen by the 1972 Munich Massacre and its also unlikely that the IOC would give another olympics to Europe after London, UK and Sochi, Russia.
Pyeongchang, South Korea: This Korean county is noted as "the bid to beat" as they already bided twice in 2010, and 2014. However this has given them a good 13 years to build up there county and gain support from 95% of its residence. It also has an increased knowledge of the bidding process. and most likely will the the place for the games as its unlikely the IOC will reject there bid a third time. This would also be the first time the games have been in Asia since Nagano in 1998 and Beijing in 2008. However some IOC officials are getting tired of there bid, and there winters are dry with little snow fall.
As for me. I think Pyeongchang will win because its there thrid bid, but Im behind Munichs bid and want the games in Germany.
Answer: It will most likely be Pyeongchang, South Korea. :)

Is it possible for me to make the winter olympics in 2014 or 2018?
I want to be a professional snowboarder, but Ive just started snowboarding. Ive been skiing since I was 4 years old and I decided to try snowboarding earlier this year. I love it so much and feel real comfortable on the board. I can do downhill but I wanna learn freestyle. Is there any possibility that I would ever be ready for the olympics?
Answer: You would have to work really hard because most of these athletes that are in the olympics start at a really young age, and if you just started snowboarding, its probably not your best bet. I would try skiing if i were you.

Will Colorado host the 2018 Winter Olympics?
Colorad i think will win the bid because colorado can set up a
Olympic stadium in time plus there is tons of easy ways to all of the ski resorts in the area. I would also wonder which ski
resort most the events would be at. PLEASE ANSWER!!!!!
I LIVE IN COLORADO!!!!!!!
Answer: like what other people had posted, Colorado's bid will depend on who will win the 2016 Olympics hosting rights. if Chicago will host the 2016 Games, then Colorado will wait until 2022 to make a bid again.
another factor that will go against that Colorado's bid that will surely be remembered by the IOC is what happened in the 1976 Winter Games. I dont know if you still remember that Denver, Colorado was supposed to host that year's Games but due to rising cost and worries of environmental impact, the Colorado voters thru referendum rejected to host the Games and that angered the IOC. just hope that the IOC will forgave and will eventually give the Games to Colorado

Will Munich win the bid to host the 2018 winter olympics?
As a huge olympic fan ive looked at Munichs advantages and I think Munich has good chances. It would be the first winter olympics in german in over 80 years (since 1936 in 2018) and the first olympics of any kind in a reunified germany. Also Munich (and Germany) needs it redemption time since the events of 1972. And while Pyeongchang has 2 failed bids, so does germany, one in 1992 (winter) and one in 2000 (summer) so basically Munich is on the same page with Pyeongchang. Also Germany does great in the Winter olympics and winter sports are very popular in Germany.
What do you think? Do you think they have good chances?
Who do you think will win and why?
Answer: I think it's Munich's year but I'm still torn. They both have good arguments and chances. Although, Germany a great chance, i'd say better than Pyeongchang right now. There has been so much contoversies surrounding Korea as of late. Safety is the biggest concern, they don't want another Munich. As you said, this should be Germany's redemption Olympics. However, since the IOC likes to award the games on different continents between each quadrennium and to countries who have yet to host the games, South Korea has the advantage (South Korea only hosted the summer Olympics). In terms of different continents, South Korea has the advantage again because Europe will have hosted earlier that Asia ( Asia '08, North America '10, Europe '12, Europe/asia '14 , South America '16...next should be Asia. But i'm gonna give the edge to Germany, Hopefully they win because I would love to go to Germany. :)
