What are your favourite memories from the KTM Railway?

The KTM Railway, which has operated between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Tanjong Pagar station since 1932, will be moved to the Woodlands checkpoint starting 1st July. We want to know what your experiences on the train or at the station were, and your favourite memories from it. Share them with us!
Answer: Back in the 70s, there is this pub in TanjongPagar station filled with smoke (from Guram Garum + Katek cigarettes) and Indonesian hostesses sitting on customers' lap while sharing a jug of beer. Most with flies open. Those were the days.

Super VIP coach from Singapore to KL?

Hi We have booked a Super VIP coach to go to KL from Singapore. Does anyone know from which gate (i.e. Woodlands checkpoint or 2nd link) that bus is crossing the border? Because we afraid to stay in a huge traffic at Woodlands... as it usually happens....
Answer: 98 % of coach use Woodland Check point as cost is cheap.because the co-driver will on board from JB, ( take Malaysia driver paid less also in RM ) need not to come Singapore, as only Malaysia law require co-driver. via second link paid more tool fees ! NICE super coach depart from Novelta Bukit Timah hotel, have 2 time a week via second link to KL.* be cool, nothings we can do about traffic ! just by luck ! sometime okay.

Answer: Your best bet is Tuas Checkpoint. But you'll have not much shopping/money changing choice like if you'd use Woodlands checkpoint. Plus, better watch your speed when using Tuas Checkpoint. Malaysian traffic cops sneaks with viewcam along the stretch till Senai Toll.

How can a get from Changi Airport to woodlands checkpoint the border?

Answer: take the MRT from Changi where you have to alight at Tanah Merah and continue westbound towards Boonlay and change at City Hall to the north-south line and stop at Kranji where you take bus 170 (60 cents) from the bus-stop across the road from teh station. There would be another bus operators there, it's a coach that's yellow and blue if i remember right, and would cost about 80 cents. keep your tickets so you don't have to pay a second time between Woodlands and the Johor checkpoint. This would cost you less than $4. Another way is to take the MRT to Bugis, walk across to the bus terminal where you can find a cab to the checkpoint as well as bus 170. It should cost you less than $4 although u might get a little lost looking for the terminal and it's a longer bus ride. Personally I don't like the bus ride as it gets you there with a lot of stops that could take you up till 2 hours and might be a little jerky. Another MRT stop you can travel from is Marsiling station. I forgot what bus you could take from there, if it's 903 or 913 but the station manager should be able to tell you. That is if you don't want to walk. Or you could take a short cab ride from there which would up the expenses by a couple of dollars but under $10. Follow the route for Kranji, it's the stop just before Kranji. The longer way by train is to take the MRT westbound all the way to Jurong East station, switch trains there and travel to Kranji or Marsiling. You could also try taking the MRT to Tanjong Pagar, make your way to the KTM line and take a train (the "choo-choo" train) to the Woodlands train checkpoint, though it's a different place altogether. When you end up in Johore, you end up across the checkpoint for people entering by bus/cars. Another way is to make a friend in Singapore who might be willing to drive you there from the airport :D sorry to say I can't yet :p

Please can I get people who actually know about this or who have ever done this? Im going to take a train from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. I have some questions. To a take a train straight from Changi Airport to Woodlands checkpoint or The 2nd Link Border Check? Do I take that train and once in Malaysia, does it go directly to Kuala Lumpur from Johor Bahru, or do I have to take another train? Please help!
Answer: Its easier for you if you take the train from Tanjung Pagar...that is the last terminal for the Malaysian Train Service. Definitely this train will take you direct to Kuala Lumpur or the Sentral KL Station. The checking when crossing the border will be done in the train itself. Don't worry.

Getting to Changi Airport from Woodlands Checkpoint?

I am not planning on taking the taxi as I would be on a budget should I arrive at the Woodlands checkpoint by train. Whats the cheapest and most convenient way to get to & fro Changi Airport via the Woodlands checkpoint. Do I need to get some notes or currency exchanged prior to arriving at Woodlands? How long would it take me to Changi and back from Changi? Estd amount I would spend if the cheapest route was recommended? Thanks heaps!
Answer: This question is similar to the one I provide for another guy. Take SMRT bus 950 at the checkpoint. (S$1.10) Might take 10 min to 15 min to read Woodlands Regional Interchange. Woodlands Regional Interchange. Take SMRT 858: This is a direct service to Changi Airport (stop at both Terminal 1 and 2). Will take around 45min to 50min on a good day. Cost: (S$1.80) This is the most direct way. Only 1 transfer (MRT will be 3 transfers). Cost is roughly the same as MRT.

Answer: It is possible that you could receive a ticket/fine by mail, but I would think that if a Ranger at a checkpoint took down your name, he or she would inform you of the consequences you might face. Maybe nothing will happen this time, but your name's on a list, and if you get popped again, you'll be ticketed/fined.
