is this a good oral for a grade 7 ess(english and studys of socitiy) of migration from poland??????
Hello everyone who has come to the Australian multicultural festivals in Toowoomba.
When I was 6 years of age, WW2 began. Even though that was 63 years ago, I remember it well. It was a Thursday night and I and my Mum, Dad and 2 Sisters were at home eating, Pierogi, which is a stuffed dumpling. We had just sat down to eat when we heard on the radio that this man called Hitler, from Germany, had gone mad and was trying to take over the world. This terrified my mum and dad very much; my sisters and I were too little to understand, Mum and dad went off into a little room and then came back and told us to go pack a small bag with a very little amount of clothing and the thing that meant the most to us, I chose my teddy bear I had since I was very young. Very early the next morning we got our bag and we went out to this little cottage somewhere in the country, I thought this was going to be a fun and exciting holiday, but I was really wrong. The cottage only had 2 very small bedrooms were mum and dad slept in one and me and my 2 sisters slept in the other. There was only 1 bathroom, and a small sitting area off the kitchen. The cottage got really cramped and mum said we weren’t allowed outside in fear of being seen. I didn’t understand why we couldn’t be seen but I trusted my mum with my life so I followed her directions. Soon Poland had been destroyed by bombs and other things. I remember one day we all went out to the shops to get some groceries and the army was hunting Jewish men and then they were putting them in these cramped trucks. About a month later we got a letter saying that he had been killed in the gas chambers. That scared mum, now that she was alone and didn’t have anyone to protect us. Dad was the solid provider of the family now we had no-one.
A week later mum said to us that we were going on a long boat trip. So the next morning we left really early, before the sun was out and it was really really cold. We arrived at the boat docks after a 6 hour train trip and boarded the boat. As we boarded many things were going through my mind: I was sad, worried and scared. I also didn’t want to leave dad alone in the country where the mad man was. It was a long time we spent on the boat, it was cold and wet and miserable. After the long time spent on the boat, we finally arrived at this place mum called Australia, which I thought was a very weird name but oh well.
We had to go through medical checks and lots of different thing which scared me. People poking and prodding you, I didn’t like it at all. I asked mum why we chose this place, her response was: this land has freedom, freedom to do what we want, freedom to be whatever religion we want to be, freedom to get a job. This is a safe land. At the time that confused me, but I understand now.
After a couple of years we started to settle in, Mum got a job, she bought a nice little house in the out-skirts of Sydney. We lived a happy life, but I will never forget my father.
Answer: Ahaha I'm from Poland :)
Yeah i think its good, but what could get you an A is add in alot of descriptive language, and maybe you can put in some figurative language. For example
"I felt like a wild animal on display, stuck in this crowded cage. If you looked into my eyes you would see an innocent girl but on my skin you see the pain inflicted upon me. Showing you my life story, mistaken identity. I will not cause harm."
Thats just an example, it doesn't quite fit into your essay but you see what i mean :) Good luck

how do i make festival?
a jamaican fry dumpling
Answer: Here ya go, enjoy!
Jamaican Fried Dumplings or Johnny Cakes:
2 cups Self Rising Flour
1 cup cold Milk or Half and Half
1 oz. Butter
1 cup Cooking Oil
Mix ingredients together, except cooking oil, and knead to make dough. Make the dough pieces the same as explained above.
Heat the cooking oil in the skillet, and fry dough pieces for three minutes on each side.
It’s imperative that you keep the heat on low for these dumplings or they will be hard on the sides and soft around the edges.
You can serve these with eggs, fish, callaloo, ackee, or meat. I’ve even had them with corned beef hash.

An Asian Club in High School?
In my school, we have a club called Asian Cultural Exchange. This club is open for anybody who is interesting in Asian culture, it is not just for Asian people. Next year, I will be in the clubs student council; however, I cannot think of any activities that the club can do.
So far, the club has:
- cooked dumplings
- made origami
- went to Chinatown
- went to Washington Dc for the Sakura festival
- watched anime
- watched drama
- learned how to sing and dance to Asian songs
- learned a bit of Japanese
- dressed up in traditional outfits and had a party for New Years
- had a serious discussion about racism
- and several other things
What else can the club do? We need something fun to do as well as to get more members to join and stay. If there is an asian club at your school, what kind of activities do you do, what kind of trips do you go on, and what kind of events do you hold?
Answer: You sign Suki up for Asian club NOW! Suki will be president.

Cultural Differences
After experiencing the cultures, Alpha and Beta, I realized how different cultures can be. One culture could be almost the same as another, or totally the opposite. This also got me thinking about the different countries I have visited, my experiences that also lead me to learning their diverse cultures, and being able to compare them to each other.
The two cultures I am going to compare are China and Germany. The biggest and most obvious cultural difference I found between these two Countries is the festivals or holidays they celebrate. The biggest and most important festival in China is known all around the world. It is the Chinese New Year. For the six years I have been in China, each New Year is better than the last one. We eat dumplings, the famous hong shao pork, drink beer and vodka, and for our family, there is a cake added to because it is my birthday. We watch CCTV 1 for the yearly New Year show, we wear new clothe, new shoes, get gifts, waiting to welcome the New Year. People visit strangers to greet each other Happy New Year. On the other hand, to me, the most famous holiday in Germany would be the Oktoberfest, which is also known as the beer festival. Like the New years, this holiday has become famous around the world. Similar to The New Years, people stuff themselves with food, mostly meat and alcohol, but unlike the New Years, they drink large amounts of beer. People in Germany usually eat and drink outside of home on the holiday, but in China, it is a symbol of a lack of respect. At 12:00, the tapping of the first keg of beer begins; everybody starts to consume large amounts of beer, many younger people who overestimate their ability to handle large amounts of alcohol, past out due to drunkenness.
Talking about the Oktoberfest, I have already noticed another big cultural difference compared to China. But this time it is something in everyday life. The thing I noticed was what they were drinking. When I was in fifth grade, me and my family went on a vacation to Germany. The afternoon we got there, we were hungry, so we walked into a local restaurant for a late lunch. It was packed with people, but a lot of them weren’t eating; they were in groups, drinking beer out of large glass cups. Each glass of beer looked so big, I had no idea how they could drink glasses and glasses of them with out going to the bathroom every five minutes. We ordered some German cuisines, when they were eating, I couldn’t take my eyes of the people who where drinking. I watched a person, glass of beer was half gone for each swallow he takes, and just watching him drink made me full. The Chinese never drink like they do, they usually just drink a few bottles at max. On the other hand, the Chinese don’t like drinking beer as much as the Germans. The Chinese like Vodka, lots of vodka, the higher the level of alcohol, the better it is. My dad sends vodka as a gift to others; it is a sign of respect and friendship. My dad’s brother can drink bottles of vodka with out getting drunk. When we go eat with my dad’s friends, bosses, and relatives, all the adults drink vodka.
The final main cultural difference I found between these two countries is the manners they have. In Germany, you could sit where ever you want in on a table in a restaurant. But in China, the elders or the most successful must sit on the top middle part of the table, or the furthest seat from the door in a restaurant. Germans don’t like it to be very loud when they are eating, but the Chinese think the louder, the better, because it means you show more respect, and that you are having a good time. The people in Germany like smiling and saying hi to people they don’t know, but if you do that in China, They would think you are weird and have mental problems.
These are the three main cultural differences I see between Germany and China. I can see the differences from my experience, and learning from everyday life. The learning of the Alpha and Beta culture made me be aware of the cultures around me, they made me think of what to do and what not to do around the Culture I live in.
Thanks again

Help! Im preparing my English test ! Can you read this short passage and correct it for me?
Challenge? Or depend on others help?
I prefer to face challenge by myself. I believe I can never manage to do something if I always depend on others help. In my childhood, I loved to eat dumplings. My parents frequently made dumplings for me; however, they never let me make them by myself. Thus I couldnt enjoy my favorite meal whenever I wanted until my first attempt in the last Spring Festival. I couldnt be more excited when my first dumpling was done. This perfect sense of satisfaction is another reason I choose to do it myself. Whats more, young people like us should be independent enough to handle complex work. Without independence, we wont be prepared to face difficulties in society.

How grand is dumpling festival in China?
What are the others activities except praying and eating the dumpling?
Answer: Wow, I've never heard it called the "dumpling festival" before! I guess that's because most people associate the word "dumpling" to be "jiaozi." However, I see on the internet that a lot of people call the festival by the "dumpling" name. I learn something every day!
Here in China, the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar year (or "Double Fifth") is more commonly known as 端午节 (Duan Wu Jie -- Mandarin pronunciation) or the Dragon Boat Festival. It's a holiday and banks, post offices, government buildings, schools and universities will be closed. Retail stores will be open for booming business!
People like to eat "zongzi" (sticky rice in leaves) on this day. However, zongzi is typically sold throughout the year, with increased production being around Duan Wu Jie. The stores in my district started having more zongzi for sale about two weeks ago.
Children will make sweet smelling sachets to wear around their necks.
Since I live in a town with a river in it, Dragon Boat races will be held. There will be street fairs by the river and possibly a fireworks show as well. It should be a fun time!
Enjoy!

How to make those dumpling festival things?
They sell them at carribean (is it?) food places. Round bread things. Extremely delicious.
Answer: You'd need glutinous rice flour, mix it with warm water and knead it into a dough, constantly adding water.
Once dough is ready, you'd need to make them into small round balls. (you can put peanut butter into those dumplings or leave them plain). In the mean time, boil water in 2 pots -add sugar in one and the other pot to boil those little dumplings. Once they are cooked, they will float.
You can scoop them up in a net and put them in the sweet soup and ready to be served.
